Great work mate! That's all looking mighty fiiine! Thanks guys! Appreciate it! Nice, my OCD says you have the stickers on the rocker covers the wrong way up though And you need to paint the radiator top too Looking gooooood though. We talked about the stickers for AGES! ha ha! We put them on the same way the originals were. Radiator, AC compressor and Dizzy will all be replaced / refurbished. Thank you!

As I'm currenty laid up with Covid kicking my a$$ I thought I'd give everyone an update of where we are. We've not got alot done recently and I wanted to wait on doing an update to show more being accomplished. However, I've been sick since Wednesday and L had surgery on Friday (so she's staying at her parents till I'm not a risk to her) so I'm in the apartment alone and I'm bored, I hope by the end of this update both you and I will have been entertained. So what's happened recently? Honestly, I can't even remember the order we did this in put the pictures will make it make sense. We got both the feed and return fuel lines fitted, this took a little longer than expected as we realized a couple of things. Firstly, after cutting a huge hole in our floor, that running the fuel lines between the chassis would be a right PITA! So we ripped out the old feed line as there was no point in leaving it there, we also took the hose section out from the engine bay. We decided to run the fuel lines under the outside of the RV securing them in place with P-clips. Although this leaves them more exposed, they were far easier to install and if we have any issues in the future they are more easily accessible. We started with the return line. We insulated sections both in the engine bay and under the RV where it gets close to the exhaust system - Although I'm not particually worried about the heat under the RV the extra layer of insulation over the hose will protect it from debris. Next up was the feed line which will include the pre and post filters, the pump and fuel pressure gauge. Bought 3 fuel pump / filter backets to secure them in place (though for some reason this is a photo of two of them?) We replaced the original fuel pump brackets, shown in the picture with one of the ones shown above. This was routed next to the return line again using a load of opened up P-clips. The fuel pump and filters are protected from debris by the engine cradle and the exhaust system however I am still going to make a flexible skirt to put something directly in front of them to protect them more from any bouncing rocks or debris too for peace of mind. With the fuel lines in place we turned out attention to installing the new distributor. So engine timed up following the directions from Holley. I was super nervous of this part as I've never messed with a dizzy or engine timing before so it was checked and rechecked and then checked again for good measure. I'm kinda maybe sorta confident it's right! So old dizzy out! New dizzy in, and set right (hopefully!). Also as you can see we cleaned up the back of the engine and got rid of the remaining red paint. Top on. And new leads on. We've still not mounted the coil or iginiton box, they'll be mounted when the front engine cover is installed. One extra thing I have to mention. We bought a pack of little plastic numbered collars that clip onto the leads. L, for some reason was SUPER EXCITED about them until, when trying to get #3 on it pinged off into the abyss never to be seen again! I'm just glad it wasn't me that did it! So we had to buy another pack just for a #3, if you've had a similar issue we have 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 available! After that we did start another job but didnt finish it so I'll leave that to the next update! ... I'm going to have another shot of DayQuil! Out.

Nice. The number clips will be a good tell-tale. The ones that melt, keep an eye on the plug leads, they'll probably start arcing out.
I still find ot amusing that is the engine that should be in my car...

I'm hoping that any engine issues will be few and far between by the time we're finished! But thanks for the info! I mean the Fury must be as long as the Cortez and probably only half the weight? What is crazy is that Clark initially fitted the Cortez with the Chrysler 225 inline6, I can't imagine how much that thing would have had to work to get it to any sort of speed!

You jest but the Fury is only 11" shorter than the Cortez but it's about a third the weight at 3480lbs versus nearly 9000lbs. The slant six was a good engine and performed nearly as well as the V8 but by the late sixties the six was out and the V8 was in as the large displacement powerplant of choice in the USA. Yours shouldn't be too much of a slouch with 300 horses hiding under the floorboard.

I must admit, when I see other Cortez owners who still have the inline6 fitted I get slightly envious of all the space they have in there to work on it. The big V8 takes up a ton of room!

Still working on the Cortez, got a few more jobs ticked off the list during a day off earlier this week. Firstly I made a skirt to help protect the fuel pump and filters, just a bit of AluminIum angle, some rivets and a bit of mudflap material. Bit of slicing, bit of dicing and... Next job was to install a new accelerator cable, this meant it was time for some Cardboard Aided design. A bit of choppy chop-chop, grindy sparky-spark, a smidge of drilly pokey-poke and squirty squirt-squirt of paint and in it goes! Repeat above for the second bracket. Cut the cable, adjusted and its in! Next was a 1/2" spacer for the EFI unit. This was for two reasons, firstly the throttle butterflies wouldn't open fully with just the carb adapter and secondly (and apparently) it's a common thing for the air/fuel mixture to whistle at certain RPM with the EFI conversion when going though the unit and adapter - This spacer "should" stop this from happening. Next job was both at the Cortez and home, it involved two types of CAD. These will be turned into drawings and sent to the same place that made our earlier panel above the engine. They'll box in the heater unit and cover the engine. Tomorrows job will be more wiring... Deep joy!

Yesterday (Sunday) we were at the Cortez and it was bloody boiling, like 99f - Which is about 37c! It was pretty much unbearable so we only managed a couple of hours before we called it quits. But we got a few more jobs ticked off the list. Fuel pump now fully wired in O2 sensor now fitted and wired in - It's not in a perfect spot but until a new exhaust system rocks up it'll be fine 95% (ish) of wiring now done for the EFI - Feeds to radiator fans not done yet, because they're not installed yet - 3 wires to switched 12v lives need to find a home - Some of it isn't in its forever home - We just want to get it up and running (and moved into the shade) for now, tidying up will be done after that Vacuum hose to Hydrovac unit rerouted and connected. It doesn't look like it but this is better. Long weekend next weekend so hopefully we'll have it running! It's not been ran for over 6 months... again! Since then it's had: New oil pump and pick-up pipe, oil and sump gasket New valve stem seals New plugs, New Ignition system, EFI conversion. Next jobs, if it ever runs include: New MASSIVE radiator and twin electric fans New AC condenser, drier, hoses and AC unit New heater Modified fuel filler neck New wiring New engine covers More welding. Ta! Andy and L

This'll be a short update but a bloody good one! (At least for us!) First, notice this Cortez shaped patch of dead grass! That's because we finally got the Cortez running! And idling and accelerating and stopping and not bellowing blue smoke! After all that work the Cortez burst into life and ran SWEET from the moment we turned the key with the Sniper EFI. Now, it isn't all rainbows and butterflies! The throttle is sensitive, like INSANE sensitive! This turns out to be a pretty common issue with the Sniper, Holley sell an extended bracket - So they know it's an issue but instead of fixing it they just sell an additional part! - So, we've bought one! The EFI system wiring is a mess - Nothing is in its forever home, shortened or secured in place. And then, shortly after we got the Cortez back into its original, and covered home this guy died! (So we've ordered a replacement) (Yes, the original wiring is also a mess but we have a plan so cunning you could stick a tail on it and call it a weasel! So after nearly a year out in the 100f heat and humidity of summer and the 20f cold and dampness of winter, it's home. Now, when I say home, I actually mean it's 45 minutes away from our home, the plan over the next few months is to complete the previously mentioned jobs and then get it to our actual home - Our apartment complex has said that we're cool to bring our RV into the lot - We've excluded the condition and age for now.

Most excellent, that looks like a nice piece of kit.
Here's me looking at rebuilding the carb on mine... Best thing fitted to mine though is the GM style HEI ignition, so going one step further should really help.
You really need to do the livery as NASA...
