I have been a long time viewer of this forum and look at everyone’s hard work with great admiration and interest. It’s amazing how much talent and the different work that goes on. Thought I would share my little collection, in order of getting them, Classic Mini. This was my first car and due to being hit by an uninsured driver I still have it. 205 GTI. Early phase one car which came to me through a work mate to replace the Mini that was in storage. MK2 Golf GTI. This has taken 10 years to complete. MK4 Golf GTI Anniversary. Meant to be a daily, this only happened for a while. Peugeot 309 GTI. Saved from the scrappage scheme from someone at works wife. I will go through the projects one by one a share their journeys and current status.

I have a friend who owned a 309GTI in the same Topaz blue colour at the same time I had a 205GTI. There’s a picture of them both parked up in a garage, fuel was 86p a litre! I still own my 205!

Thanks for the comments. As you can tell I don’t like to sell stuff. Mini has now been with me 21 years!! 205 is 19 I think. Here is a brief history of the Mini. Purchased from a small dealer way before the internet. There is some interesting adds in that mag. We where taken for a test drive and all seemed good. A genuine one lady owner car. Once we picked it up, Dad driving as I had not passed my test we found that the synco on 4th gear was shot. I learnt quickly how to over come this. Here is the car once home Sorry for the picture quality as they are photos of real pictures. It didn’t stay standard long. Wheels, bumpers, chrome etc. After 18 months and 35k miles this happened I was gutted. Quoted 2k to repair. Uninsured driver who drove off. This is when the 205 was brought for £800. Which seemed expensive, less so than the insurance which was £1200 paid monthly from my part time Sainsbury’s job. After 4 years in my Grandparents garage it came out for repair and had a full repaint. Over the years little changes have happened such as suspension, including a conversion to springs. Fun but slow. Found myself doing less and less miles in it. So 2 years ago I did this. Vmaxscart super charger! 1275 head on the original 998 block. 82bhp at the flywheel. Double the power of the original car. Now it’s more fun and regularly used. Any more info I am more than happy to go into more detail. I will do a brief bit on the 205 next.

So I got the 205 after the Mini got hit. I wasn’t without a car, my sister was at Uni and I had the “pleasure” of her Fiat Cinquecento for a week. So slow and dull. Painter I worked with had the 205. He had recently got a Renault 5 GTT and the 205 wasn’t being used. He said I got some paperwork if you want to have a look. Turns out it was every since piece of history from day one. £800 later it was mine and home I soon started to really enjoy it. Had it properly set up by Pug Performance and it was great fun and reliable. Plenty of cruises as it was the Max Power generation. Me and my mates when all over the place. During this time the car looked like this. The car went back to Pug Performance for a ported and polished Longman head and a fast road cam. Money well spent. It was also lowered when they rebuild the rear axle. The cam comes in around 3.5k and pulls to 6.5k, so. addictive. Over the years bits a pieces have been updated and up graded. As it sit now, Recently it’s had a full Magnex exhaust and I had to rewire most of the engine bay as everything was brittle and breaking. Need to use it more this year.

Next project that came along was the MK2 Golf GTI. Didn’t really plan to own it, ended up being mine as I wanted to save it. Swapped the car for a split screen van front bumper with a mate!! A bargain maybe? Not really got any pictures of it when I first got it. Had a bottom end knock so had to fit and replacement engine which was part of the deal. Ran it for 10 months with various issues, mainly mechanical fuel injection issues and water leaks. Got fed up with it and decided it was time to do a refresh. Needed rust repairs etc. Brought a donor car same year and spec for £100 so had plenty of parts to choose from on the rebuild. Not long after I started a MK4 1.8t came up for cheap so an engine conversion became part of the restoration, plus no more mechanical fuel injection! It took me 10 years to complete. Some pics of progress and the finished car. Really pleased with it. It was a relatively easy conversion. So much info out there.

Spent Saturday redoing intercooler pipe work and general engine bay tidying. Was focused on using it last year and now have time to sort out the finer details. Before! After VW badge is on its way for engine cover. Next job is washer bottle relocation and standard Mk4 Golf airbox fitment.

I was working at Longbridge at the time that the Studio 2 Minis were built. I can remember them coming down the line. Nice to see that you've still kept it going after all these years!
Lovely collection.

Lovely collection. That’s amazing I bet you saw it new!! Yes, I could well have. The factory churned out lots of limited editions around that time, but I do remember the Studios as being more appealing than some. Not sure of the numbers built but they would have been coming through over a period of a month or two, mixed in with the other derivatives.

Long time with no updates. Not done a great deal to the fleet due to having potential redundancy hanging over me plus a reduced pay. Thankful that’s now all over. So time to get back on it! Collected the 205 from its 6 month break from my parents garage. By the time I got home we had a leaky water pump. So cambelt and water pump done. While I was in there turns out I had also run out of brake pads. So new pads and a quick caliper refresh. Now I am just enjoying using it. Next the Golf decided to have a water pump failure. Overheated, cool heater. This was the cause, Easy enough fix. Now the maintenance is done it’s time to play with the Mini. It’s been leaking oil, they all do but it was getting excessive. Mainly the transfer case. Now it’s supercharged and getting used more, any weaknesses are showing up. Engine removal in progress. Thought while it’s out to treat it to this, This weekend will be finishing off removing the engine. Other bits that need doing are, Front wheel bearing, inner CV boots, wiring in a AUX cooling fan and painting the block etc.

Been a bit slack with keeping this up to date. Finished off the Mini and the new cam has really made a difference with the supercharger. Took the Golf out this morning for a 50 mile drive. Stopped and took some pics in a empty car park. Feel bad for getting it dirty but it gives it that used look. Got a gearbox from a diesel MK4 which I am going to use the fifth gear from so that it’s more comfortable on the motorway. Should drop the rpm down by 300 rpm which will put it back to how it would run in a MK4 with 16 inch wheels.
