I've got a list of things planned for my car this year. Some of them mechanical... it isnt quite running right at the moment, but I've had so little time with it and havent even been driving it that I havent really started thinking about that stuff properly. It just needs setting up, dialling in a bit, some adjustments here and there and then maybe a new torque converter is required if I cant justify buying a manual gearbox and converting it. don't really want to buy a torque converter though while I also have an itch to swap to a manual gearbox. Some of the things I want to do are cosmetic... I've made a start on replacing what is very minimal panel rust. There are one or two more areas to have a dabble with. There are some things to replace such as the rear windscreen which is perspex, badly fitted, leaking and squeaks like hell in motion. Fortunately the car came with the original glass, so that will be going back in and any repairs to the metalwork will be dealt with when I do that. Some panels to be adjusted, and a few minor niggles like moving the exhausts a bit further away from the rear springs so they don't rub when I go over speed bumps. Aside from those things, I have a plan for transforming the car which will be very much a marmite kind of thing. I never thought I'd be doing it to this car, but after owning it for a few months now, it seems unavoidable if I'm going to truly bond with it and feel like its mine.

My past year was all about surfing the crest of a wave of work as I expanded the business but lost staff (sadly including tragedy rather than leavers) so little got done on cars other than staying mobile.
This incoming year will be about focus, both on managing that business to keep it on peak, but also in car terms, something I've just started but will continue, is to hit one car with its few issues and blitz them all in one hit, rather than sporadic bits here and there. It means a bit more dedication, much more preparation and a few more requirements on space and equipment, but I'm convinced it will pay off long term, evident I think by the fact I have cars waiting to be fixed since 2005, 2006, 2007 and so forth.
"Make it happen" and "Remove Distractions" were 2019; "Focus" as well as "Investment" (in several meanings) and "Realising Vision" will be 2020.

My plans? Mercedes: -Maybe change the prop bearing and rubber bushing around it -Maybe sort a couple of things out -Maybe fit an ICE setup ; I've removed it as it was for sale -Sell it. I'd love to keep that, but houses don't come free and it's not even stored at my unit or at home ; it's locked away in the dry! So it's between that and the M3. While the latter is not as cool as the Merc it is certainly more versatile and with a character of its own, and probably a little more me for what I use cars for. That and it's a pretty thirsty girl at 14-16MPG. So, the M3? -The Guibo and Prop saga has got out of hand. It turns out my CV joint on the prop had a little more play than I bargained for. While I was doing it, I also decided to tackle the exhaust clamps at the back which are a known weak spot on these. I have some uprated clamps mind you. I also changed the gearbox mounts "while I was there". The gearbox has risen surprisingly! What am I waiting for then? CV Grease ; I've ordered some Redline CV2 for the new CV joint, so we'll see how that fares. -CSL brakes : I bought these a year ago and also a couple of other bits. I really need to fit those as the front discs and all of the pads are now a little past it, albeit legal for now. -Wings: I keep moaning about the price but I'll have to man up and pay out a bit of cash I suspect . -I did debate selling it at the start of last year due to the wings and listening too much to magazines about what is the right M3, but then remembered I always repeat the circle of buying a car thinking it's better than mine and then spending the cash anyway, both in losing a bit of cash on my car and spending more cash than I expected on the new car. Probably not as much as the wings but probably as much in reality. I also do enjoy my Eurotrips in this car, alot! -2 rear tyres at some point. I still have the Kumho V70As, so they may go back on. -Interior trim switch -Inspection II ; I'll love that service and those wonderful valve clearances, honest. To be fair, an Inspection II is around every 8 years where the mileage is low. It's just that the Inspection I also includes the clearances which I did back in 2016. Damn, that was 4 years ago? Where does the time go? Mondeo? It's a rare beast, but it's getting on a bit and 2,000 miles a month is beginning to show a few issues with it on 178k and rising ; more than average for its age. I can see it needing: -Rear trailing arm bushes ; it feels loose at the back -2 rear tyres ; one of them is a little iffy but just about legal for now. -Door ; I have a replacement door to replace the bashed one, but like any doors these days, I have to transfer everything over to the new door. That will take time and effort. -Bluetooth retrofit ; being an early car that is more of a pain than I imagined ; I still need a loop cable and some wiring modifications to make the module work. -Cambelt ; it will be due in the coming months. Looking at one car it doesn't seem like alot. Until you read down the list. Those retro owners who have new or newish cars for a daily may have a point here as they keep telling me. As some know here, I did get sick of every car I owned come August; every car of mine had a fault and a mate's loaner also went wrong on me! The crazy thing? I still look at a project and go ; it's not that bad! Reading through previous posts (Merc for example which was at best a light resto) reminds me of what I've done!

my Plans, with the current fleet Mazda B2500 daily driver, hopefully it won’t need anything this year and will continue to be reliable. M3, I only tax it for the summer, no plans for it, the bodywork needs attention but that won’t be until I have a garage for it. Z4, inherited this from my dad in 2016, one of the only things I have of his, it doesn’t run properly and it’s in the way but I don’t think I can sell it, that will continue to stay in the waiting room until I’m ready to do something with it. Ford Capri, it’s still getting restored, I’ve put some money aside to get this back in 2020 so that should be good. Ford escort, I plan to use it this year, so will get the engine set up properly and the carb tuned as it’s way off, plus add some gold 1600 sport stripes and maybe a radio, but ultimately I needs everything removed and replaced suspension and braking wise, I will look into a Zetec swap to make it more usable and a bit more fun. But that’s all years away With a house move this year, hopefully we will be buying a place with enough space to have a 5-6 car garage/shed so all the cars can be under cover and out the elements and I can work on them in the warm and dry. Really I just need to sell everything except the escort and the mazda as it’s so much easier with less stuff but you get attached to things so don’t think I can part with any, but then there loads of other cars I’d like to try. I really want to build a little mk2 escort out of one of the new body shells and have it as a daily driver

For me the plans are:
Mx5 - fix Air con (condensor looks a mess but you can't get new ones, it might hold gas though), sort out seats and probably some better front tyres.
Range rover - fix air con (leak test and charge hopefully just re-charge now.) and MOT next tuesday, Ideally also tidy up minor damage to drivers door.
Minor - son will take his test soon so mortgage the house to insure it! , still looking at fitting a servo it needs a new heater matrix and rust proofing if he is going to use it in the wet.
Lotus - fix damage to boot lid (gouge where bolt on door hit it) try to stem some of the oil leaks give it a good wash and polish.
TR7V8 - needs crazed paint fixing in several areas (mostly bonnet and rear panel), the crank oil seal is leaking and it has a small area of rust on the inner wing which also needs looking at, also will probably take the LPG and tow bar off to give it roughly a 10% weight reduction.
Street ka - Daughter seems very happy with it everything works, most of the normal things which wear out have been replaced and there is no rust I can find at the moment so hopefully only servicing needed. Also her other half is about to take his test (I found him a tidy well looked after 04 1.4 tdci fiesta) so I suspect the KA will get less use.
Which also brings me to do we really need an modern company car and 6 older cars between 4 of us and in particular 3 convertible 2 seaters, I (and the domestic boss) keep thinking I should get rid of one (either lotus or TR) but then I drive them and think perhaps not, TR is also 40 this year so no tax or MOT in future which makes it very cheap to run (25 mpg doesn't really matter when you do less than 1000 miles)

Main thing for 2020 is piecing parts together to throw this Into this, but it wont be being started until end of the show season But I'm doing a full interior before getting it back on the road for show season Lots of wiring to clean up. Painting the floors, couple small rust repairs and sound deadening. New carpet, seats etc. And thats just 1 of the cars

After a couple of years of purely focussing on getting my own business up and running,it’s now at a stage where it’s time for a couple of changes. I lose the storage for the Rx2 at the end of the month, so things are going to change...

Finish welding the Celica and possibly get it all in one colour... a big ask yes... but not undoable if I knuckle down and stop getting distracted. speaking of distractions... there is also the small matter of building my take of a V8 MGB GT special... although do have some assistance on that one

'Classic that needs no work' - Let me know when you discover such a mythical beast My overall plan for 2020 is to have more cars running when I end the year than I did this year (a grand total of one!). More specifically I'm hoping to: 1. Diesel swap the XJ40 and get her looking as pretty as this again: 2. Rebuild the Alfa's engine and complete the 24v swap the PO started. 3. Sort the last few niggling problems on the Fiat and actually drive it more than a couple of thousand miles! 4. Get the Spitfire sorted enough that it will run and drive. 5. Build two more garages, one for me and one for my mate. 6. Insulate the roof of my garage so condensation doesn't rain down on the Spit over winter. Not a small amount! We'll see how much I get done

My first 'thing' I'm aiming for is to do some more bodging on the Saxo to get it through another test. Need to make another pair of front struts as the shocks are blown and one is bent, fit another pair of front driveshafts and notch the chassis a bit more as one is bent, weld the sills up and any other bits I find. Don't want to bin it before it's done 200k miles (done 80k in my 2 years of ownership).
Delica is just ongoing maintenance but is pretty trouble free.
S2000 needs a engine rebuild.
Also got all the bits together to build something small, FWD and fast again. It's what I'm most comfortable hooning, the S2000 is fast but the instantaneous transition between cornering like its on rails and going hedgebound takes the fun out a bit.
