Has most you are aware time never stops still in the GN workshop - I was approached by a Jowett Car Club member several months ago who was on the look out for a Jowett Bradford van - he had owned one previously and fancied having another - he looked about but nothing really peaked his interest until this one turned up Its a half finished project but the work to date is of a good standard Its a had a brand new ash frame built onto the restored chassis Sadly its aging owner fell ill and is now confined to a wheelchair and will never be in a position to complete it Hence a deal was done with Trevor the new owner Its virtually complete - just a few minor parts missing So yesterdays mission was to go and collect the project from Worcester - spread out over 3 separate garages - load up and then transport the van to Devon - then head home (450 mile round trip) Now safe in its new home - Trevor will go through the drive train & chassis - undertaking anything that is required and hopefully getting the van into starting / moving under its own steam position - in the interim I will arrange to get the loose panels dipped & primed - then undertake any work required to them - in several months time - once I have completed several projects that are in the queue in front of the Bradford - I will then go & collect it - once in the workshop I will undertake the final panel fitting + paint & trim has required - it should make a very nice little van once complete

Yet another great thread to follow. Bookmarked. Pete it will be some time before I get on with it has there is a decent queue of work in front of it - but lots can happen in the background which should make it quite a quick build once it arrives in my workshop

In for updates, I was hoping you were going to say the rear was going to be converted for a wheelchair when you mentioned the previous owner.

Phil - Sadly not but there is a club member that has done a wheelchair conversion on one for his wife so that she can travel to the rallys with him - I must take some pics of it next time I see it

Happy new year!
Not your side of things, but I see it’s a boxer twin in this, is the engine in the javelin a 4 cylinder evolution of this one?

Happy new year! Not your side of things, but I see it’s a boxer twin in this, is the engine in the javelin a 4 cylinder evolution of this one? Hi John - HNY - The 4 cylinder boxer in the Javelin & Jupiter was a complete clean sheet design for 1947 - the little twin boxer in the Bradford can however trace its roots all the way back to 1910 - although it was different engine it carries a vast amount of similarities of the Jowett Brothers first engines for their cars Pic of an early Jowett 2 cylinder and there is not that much difference between this & the Bradford engine

Has anyone fitted a Javelin flat 4 and box in a Bradford Chris? Pete - Not to my knowledge - I think that chassis frame may be a little too narrow that said it could be readily altered but like all of these things fitting a bigger engine is not really a problem and we see it undertaken all the time on various classics / older cars - the problem is that a lot of owners don't have a clear thought out process when they do so - hence they just chuck larger capacity engine in and bolt some bigger wheels on whilst giving scant regard to how the vehicle will handle at speed in corners or if it can be stopped before it ploughs into something - rant over - However I hope to have a very unique and seriously fast Jowett Bradford special bodied car on the Jowett stand for the NEC restoration show in March 2020

Jim - Another sad story - we had a dedicated club member whom built ash frame for this one and several others - sadly lost far too young in life - we do however have the all the patterns and have now sourced someone to undertake the manufacture of them

I have a to make a small round trip to my shot blasters tomorrow (we are all collectively doing our best to keep each other going through these difficult times) - its all well planned in advance to ensure that we are working above & beyond any guidelines - I am collecting a pile of bits that are completed but I might just has well drop another batch to him - The Bradford is several months off entering the workshop but I can keep some momentum under projects like this with advance works that at this stage are not time or resource hungry This lot requires separating into the various component parts Bonnet is on piano hinges and just requires the rods drawing out the hinges Inner wings just require some minor clips removing from them Allegedly these have already been repaired / restored by someone Must have been someone who is so talented that they work their eyes shut all the time The other side was no better Rear door hinges will require attention from the angle grinder in the morning in order to remove the bolts The rest is all loaded and ready to go

I thought you didn't use a shotblaster? Or are these panels thick enough to not be a concern?
