I sold my old w114 merc and decided to go yank. This was all my budget could stretch too at present, she’s battered and beaten, but solid where is matters, running and driving. I’ll get more photos tomorrow, but thought I’d start a thread. I’m after advice and contacts from anyone into American cars, as this is my first one I’m a bit clueless. Plans are to drop the front a couple inches, change the wheels and that’s about it. Here she is.

No, only just got it in the shed, here’s a picture of the rear of it. It’s about 5 and a half meters long, so bigger than I’m used too.

Love these and the aggressive looking front end, there’s always more than a couple about at the Mopar Nationals at Santa Pod.
Great choice.

Absolutely brilliant purchase. Love it, looking forward to seeing the back end come down, although I have to agree, it looks damn cool with the rake.

Hey!
That is looking absolutely awesome! Top purchase indeed.
What motor have you got tucked in that old girl?
Also, loving the driveway culture clash! That's what it is all about. Really want a W124 wagon again to sit alongside my Maverick...

Cheers guys. It’s got a 5.2 V8 with a straight side exit pipe on it. Sounds pretty savage. Can’t seem to upload a video clip from my phone tho. I love old German metal too, only ever owned old German stuff before this.. have to say I’m loving it. I took it down my local high street yesterday. Pretty sure I scared some folk, possibly made some children cry.

I took the plunge late last summer and like you I feel pretty clueless. Lots of good groups for parts and advice in FB. No doubt a few groups for your particular beast as well. Theres certainly a lot of El Camino specific groups that I found for my car, and even a thriving 4th Gen specific El Camino FB group. Car looks awesome as it is. don't go restoring away all that lovely history, it looks gooooooood.

They were very helpful to me as a non-member when I was pondering a ratty old Dodge Coronet purchase, so I imagine it's a pretty toight group to join as an owner.

Do you really need to do anything else at this point? Dropping the front has made it perfect. Even the Plym on the hood is spot on. Save money, enjoy it as is now. Easiest build ever.

Nah, I’m not doing anything else apart from the rear end as I’ve already ordered the blocks at 70 quid.... cheapest lowering of a car I’ve ever done! I’m used to spending 900 quid on coilovers for vw golfs. I will blast and paint the steels in the coming winter months tho. But yeah. This isn’t seeing any kind of resto in my ownership, it’s in perfect condition in my eyes.

Spent 40 years playing with yanks, no expert but always willing to lend a hand. Looks awesome by the way, nothing rides like 20+ ft of American tin P,
