Was looking at the ZS at the weekend (which is currently French Blue and tatty) and thought to myself, I remember when cars had matt black bonnetts. Reduced the glare through the screen or something?
Anyway, retro mod or just a bit w**k?
Certainly cheap to do!! Paint on the bonnets knackered anyway. Also it could be "ironic" or something postmodern like that!

Yeah it's to stop glares reflecting up the bonnet through the windscreen, pretty cool in my book.

Cool. As used on aircraft originally. Do your body silver, matt black bonnet, rising suns on doors........

Wasn't it done on 70's rally stuff to reduce engine bay heat too? IE black radiates more heat? Can't imagine it made much difference but definitely looks cool retro! S

Similar to the original theory as to why white roofs are useful, as white reflects heat, so it stops some heat getting into the cabin. That and it looks nice on some 60s cars I think. The black bonnets are nice too on a few cars, but not in combination with a white roof, as that would just be too much I think.

i was considering doing it to my micra: what do ya all think? the problem being newer cars with black bonnets are a bit 'chav' how ever the micra might just pull it off.

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.
