Cash talks, I need this gone as the fuel bill is wrecking me at the new house. £1,750 ono, or p/x with cash my way for something frugal, bonus points if you can get cheap coilovers for it.
I'm regretfully selling my e39 540i as I'm about to move house so my commute is going from 7 miles of fairly level roads to 20 miles of hills, and I can't justify the fuel it would cost to keep it as my daily driver; I get 25mpg over a tank at the moment but a test of the new commute showed 18mpg - damn hills!
I only bought it last month to get me out of a bind after being scammed by a seller on ebay and left at the other end of the country without a way home.
I drove it from Bristol back to North Northumberland without any issues, and have put nearly 2,000 miles on it. It is sublimely comfortable, spacious, shifts well and it certainly goes when you prod the throttle... Like driving some kind of rapid sofa.
Oxford Green paint suits the e39 shape well (this is my second one in this colour), and the Sports style 49 wheels are my favourite stock ones offered. The interior is the usual high quality leather that BMWs of this era came with, and is in fairly decent condition for the year and mileage, with a couple of small marks as you'd expect, but nothing drastic. There is an issue with one of the seat sensors which is causing the airbag light to come on the screen, but this is a cheap and easy fix for the new owner (mobility issues prevent me from doing so myself). It has the excellent sounding BMW Business stereo which I have been using with a Bluetooth FM adaptor so I can listen to my phone.
The exterior is in good nick, with no rot I've seen (there was a repair done for the last MOT), but there are a couple of small stone chips, and scuffs (none through to the metal) as you'd expect from the age and mileage - a good machine polish will have it looking lovely! There is a very small dent on the OSR door, and a small patch of lacquer peel on the boot (seems to be common with these cars! I've had four and they've all either had that patch, or have had it re-lacquered...) but other than that, my only real gripe with the exterior is the aftermarket headlights which the previous owner fitted.
It isn't perfect, but that is why it is less than half the price of most on the market. I've tried to be as honest as I can with the description. If you have any questions, or would like any further photos then please message me or comment below.
I am very much open to offers, so feel free to make one. If you wish to view it, I can only accommodate that at weekends, and you will not be driving it without proof of insurance.
For clarification, the photos show the car with the private plate which came on it. I have now placed that plate on retention, and the DVLA have assigned it the new registration of S995 PBY; I have included a photo of the new V5 confirming this.
The car is located in the sticks near Alnwick in Northumberland, and I can collect you from Alnmouth or Berwick train stations. Alternatively, you can trailer it home or get a mate to give you a lift.
I'm putting it up at £2,200 but could be open to a swap with cash my way if you have something diesel or lpg, and a bit more practical. Bonus points if you can get cheap coilovers for it
