Ok with much hunting and looking at wrecks for the past 5 months I’ve finally bought a project car. It’s a 1966 Volvo Amazon 122s 2 door in what looks to have been painted in black board paint. Body wise it is solid and needs one tiny patch welding on the rear foot well. It’s a 1.8 engine and left hand drive having come from sunny California. The inside is well rough but with some new seats and tlc it should be looking good. Needs both doors repairing and the offside front wing has a hole to be repaired. It’s running a twin choke Webber and looks very clean and leak free. Not currently running but will try it as soon as I get a battery for it. Just looking to lower it slightly with a nice set of alloys and paint it Matt black for the time being. Will update with pics when I get time.

Well it turned up yesterday and I thought to myself what have I done it’s a bit more work than I thought but I’m going to strip it down and rebuild what I can and make it look a bit better. Needs a few bits doing but structural it’s sound. Don’t know what the previous owner was doing but he’s made a right mess of it so it begins.

I had some years ago a 1966 122s four door in red. It's the one car I really regret selling. It was a very sound and capable car, quite quick as the engine had been breathed on and I fitted a lovely sports exhaust which had a lovely burble sound. These can be a very nice thing to own once finished. Good luck with it.

Probably better not to use photobucket because nobody can see the pictures.

Ok so first impressions of the Volvo are not great but it is something I can do. Front wings are dented but usable, front doors ok but will need work. Rear end is good with no obvious rot or other issues. Going to start by stripping the car down by getting the wings off and work on them to get them straight. Doors I’ll leave on for the time being. Inside is ok nothing really missing except door cards and the roof lining is shot. Inside the boot is good with no holes or rot. Basically it’s a great start with it being solid. Engine looks like it’s had a service with fresh oil and filter along with plugs etc. Turns easily by hand which is good. Clutch master cylinder is absolutely knackered and was full of dust. Ordered a new one from work so I’ll get tgst on and bleed the clutch to see if that’s ok. New battery needed as there isn’t one and some fresh fuel and fingers crossed she should fire over. I had my doubts at first as it looks rough as hell but it’s got character about it and should be more enjoyable than the other car I had before. I’ll add more pics when I get chance later in the week. If anyone knows to any parts lying around let me know as I want to get this thing sorted by next summer.

Ok had a good start , stripped the rear bumper off and started to clean up the body a bit. Pushed it out of the garage and the handbrake stuck on so couldn’t move it. Couldn’t jack it up as no room so finally got it back in but now won’t move. Next job then I guess is to free that. Bodywork is a bit battered but a skim of filler and some panal work and she will be fine.

Ok no real update just starting to gauge how much of a job this car is going to be. Handbrake is still stuck on and I can not get to the back of the car to free it off, it’s solid and won’t budge even with trying to tow it out. Taken the front panal off to try to repair it but it’s full of filler and low and behold more dents. I guess the previous owner just couldn’t drive or just hit everything on the road. Steering is kaput as the joints are all knackered and totally worn out. I’ve started to look at fibreglass front wings now as a cheap way of sorting the wings out but not sure I wanna go down that route yet. Working out an engine swap for it to a turbo Volvo engine if there’s anyone on here with easy swaps I could do without too much cutting and modifying the current body. Thinking Volvo turbo engine but open to suggestions on any other options. Interior is , well messy and needs seats but may leave them like they are as it adds a bit of character to the car. Haven’t got it running as yet but checked everything over and just need fresh furl and a battery and it should fire over. Pics to follow as soon as I get some more and more updates too.

Ok had two good days on the Amazon to see how much work it needs. Found a load of filler in the one side but amazingly the filler came off in a chunk and the dent it was filling popped out to leave only a little bit of filler needed. Stripped the one front wing to see how much rot was behind it on the inner wing and nothing other than dirt. Happy days. Found more filler in the door and again it was not needed as it was a slight dent that popped out to leave a straight door, not sure in the thinking behind so much filler. Now on the hunt for a Volvo turbo engine to convert it to get a bit more power from it. Need to sort front shockers and all the steering linkages as they are worn and have loads of play in them. eBay here I come. Pics to follow when I can upload them.

good project car! look like there is some work ahead of you. getting rear drums off is a pain, might recommend a hydraulic hub puller if you don't already have a hub puller. I kept the standard engine in mine so not much help, but where you thinking of the red block turbo?

I just see blurred images with the photobucket watermark. Try adding this extension to your browser. It's for Chrome, but works just as well on Brave for me. chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/photobucket-hotlink-fix/kegnjbncdcliihbemealioapbifiaedg
