Just catching up here. When I upgraded my stereo the Fords use a 1.75 DIN unit so you need the centre fascia from the VW/SEAT versions. New they are about £50 pretty rare second hand. Easy enough to swap then fitting a double din just needs the usual bits and a FORD to ISO connector lead unless you butcher the wiring. Wheel wise i wouldn't go above 17's as the ride suffers, and bare in mind that these are relatively fat bar-stewards especially when loaded so make sure the wheels are suitable for the weight! If it all fits together I will be a happy man. 1.75 DIN means nothing to my simple brain. Other than implication that it is 1/8th smaller.

I can understand why you like them as they resemble an American 5 spoke wheel not sure if the name though, good choice they should look good as long as there are no fitting/turning problems. ABSOLUTELY 😬 Torque Thrusts are the wheels you are thinking of, and all the various variations on them.

Nice wheels, have you checked the centre bore size? If i remember the MB wheels have a larger bore and need spigot rings so they fit the VW properly. Correct. Checked and knew the difference Chose to disregard that as the lug bolts hold wheels in place. Spigot rings often made of plastic, nylon, cheese etc and I suspect mainly there to help with positioning. Cheap fix anyway.

Nice wheels, have you checked the centre bore size? If i remember the MB wheels have a larger bore and need spigot rings so they fit the VW properly. MB are usually 66 & VW 57.1, if memory serves me correctly Correct...... And there is a bigger Potential problem on the horizon but I hope to be able to sort that too.

Youd be surprised Grizz, I ran a set of wheels without spigot (they were in the post) and the wobble was horrendous above 50, helps centre the wheel I guess cos it went away with them fitted. See how you get on, nice wheels as well, left field choice there, should look good.

Collected wheels 3 miles from home. Seller was only 45 minutes late. But that was kinda predictable after speaking to her m on the phone earlier Still, wheels in the back of the Galaxy and headed home. Will unpack at the weekend and see what I really bought 8.5J rears will be interesting to say the least. Happy for now. Bedtime

I like that a lot. Finding these spigot rings might be a little bit tricky, however I am sure that there are a fair few peeps on here can make these things before you have finished making them a cuppa.

Might be an idea to Double check that the existing wheel bolts / nuts are a good fit as well - and loose any hateful locking ones ! James

Kinda related. Tell me about lazy cleaning the rears of these wheels ..... Spray on Spray off type stuff that won’t melt the wheels down into a puddle in of unrecognisable ally.

i use 50/50 tfr/water and hit them with a stiff brush. I'm sure spigot rings should be easily found off the interweb as will facia adaptors for the d/d stereo if needed. nice choice on rims though rian , should look the part once tidied and on.

I use the Bilt Hamber spray on stuff that goes red then just rinses off. Can’t remember what it’s called but it does the business.

I use fairy washing up liquid in a massive builders bucket and dump half the wheel in at a time. Shifts just about everything. Someone will tell me how wrong I am though 😂

Stiff brush, water and Cif seems to have completed phase one. (Rethought some outcomes) I use the Bilt Hamber spray on stuff that goes red then just rinses off. As you know by now, the centre bore differs significantly between Mercedes Benz and Ford. 66.6 vs 57.1 Ordered some ally items for £8.50 delivered this morning Long day at work. Wet in London. Got home by 6pm. Sally got here the same time as I had texted her an ETA. So dumped the suit and tie, and on with my garage clothes. Unpacked the wheels out by the kitchen door. Checked for damage, and laid out. Followed by a big scrubbing brush, hosepipe and Cif/Jif/Handy Andy Amonia based cleaning agent. In the mean time, Sally got dinner started and more importantly, she put out an old sheet in the lounge for me to lay the wheels down on to dry. Cleaning wheels and tyres Once laid out for a bit to get the most of the water off, inspect again and then lay out for a pic, said pic taken and all the wheels checked. Then store upright. In my opinion the tyres are all beyond function as road tyres, but perfect for mocking up. Rears 8.5J wheels shod with 245/40ZR17” rubber Front 7.5J wheels come with 225/45ZR17” rubber. I am contemplating narrower rears, possibly 235 on the 8.5J wheels, or less if it is doable. Increasing sidewall ratio. Fronts are good with the 225/45 rubber. Dead tyres. Clean up Done. Very pleased..... still.

It’s Sally’s weekend off work, and she is such an undemanding, tolerant girl, the least I can do is spend some good quality time with her I need to run back to Sheppey to collect the 5th seat for the Galaxy too. I would like to mock them up at least though, if I can get to it.
