Next begins the tale of a well thought out (expensive....I’m my opinion) birthday present that was a fox picture ball ache and required so much modification and work that if anyone asked I would never recommend MORETTE to anyone! How they started....... Try to ignore one of my lazy spaniels who doesn’t seem impressed by them, he must’ve looked at them closer than me! So they were just awful, no effort in finishing them properly with extra holes drilled in and cracks in the plastic......but refusing to be beaten and because the “replacement set” they sent were even worse we cracked on and did our best.... came out looking pretty good in the end if I do say so myself......I did almost throw my toys out of my pram when trying to wire them in but luckily dad stepped in and checked out the wiring....(I hate electrics) and they’d actually wired up the relay plug back to front, no way I’d have ever spotted that so thanks pop!!!

Thank you very much, me too something about the tiny hot hatches of old that just make me smile. Especially when you park it next to something new and see how huge a fiesta or the like is now!! Its actually just van lining carpet that I brought off of eBay by the roll, I can find the original purchase/seller if it helps? That and some contact adhesive worked wonders.

Well I was gonna do this over a couple of days but it’s quite addictive when you’re on a roll....... So after the lights etc it was time to put it back on the ground and see how she sits. Oh fox picture, it was meant to be fast road but fast off-road.....looks like the second hand springs aren’t quite what the seller listed them as, serves me right for always bargain hunting on eBay! So back off they come for assessment. Ahh so after taking them off and realising that; A they’re the highest spring rating ever and could take the weight of a tank B they’re also far too long and look like they’ve been chopped at either end. So new springs were ordered and fitted.... Sitting much better now.....that’s front and back I’m measuring not side to side incase anyone is wondering. Also ignore the standard failed door strap dent, I promise it will get sorted once I’ve recovered from surgery!!

lovely work there. I have a 106 Quiky i bought for parts (£150) and it is rotten as a pear along the back. Comparitively my 106 Zest cost £200 and is mint! neither have been on the road for a few years mind you, just a case of stripping the Quicky and eventually putting the parts on the zest.......

After having driven it to the MOT station I noticed that my supposed genius idea of cutting away the standard seats and using the frame to mount the bucket seat on was so high I couldn’t see the speedo so they were cut off and I made some new subframes that sit much lower and allow me to see when I’m doing speeds greater than 30mph!! Sorry no photo of it fitted but I have a photo from behind and you can see how much lower the seats are. Also if you’re looking at the rear light change I had the MR lights kicking about and the seal had gone on the standard offside light letting water soak the circuit board......I wasn’t sure to start with but they’re growing on me......although the same can be said for fungus!

Thank you very much means a lot. Yeah it’s shocking how bad they rot considering they’re galvanised from the factory but luckily it’s just tin and we can pop some more metal into the little french bean cans. sounds like a fun project and definitely get it swapped over as it’ll be great to see another one saved. I actually saw a quicksilver parked outside my doctors surgery today with an older lady driving it. I had to go over like some sort of creepy car weirdo and tell her how cool it was she was driving it and if she wanted to sell it let me know if you need any spares let me know as I have a lot including a gti engine if you wanna give the ole girl a bit more poke

That brings me to now where I tucked her up in the garage to stay while I disappeared off to hospital for a bit. Now I can’t wait to recover fully and get back to tinkering or maybe start a new project as I fancy a pick up to take my spaniels around and not get dog hairs in the 106!! Thank you very much for reading and hopefully I’ve contributed towards keeping someone else sane by staring at cars for a while. Next time I’ll plan to do this and take better progress pictures as I go.

Yeah, have a 1.4D s1 3dr myself. In the middle of sorting rust between boot floor and inner arch along with the jacking points too for mot. Previous owner repair covered with bathroom sealant trapped moisture and didn't help on the Jack points 😏 Loving the updates too, makes the progress look easy. Looks a cracking fun little car to drive now. Not helping my gti itch. I'm sure I'll find similar material knocking about, should help with road noise too

I'm sure I'll find similar material knocking about, should help with road noise too Ah awesome I love a s1, really would like another xsi or rallye to bring back to life. Sounds about right, the never ending quest to destroy and remove ginger from the french rot boxes.....well good luck bud and it’ll be great to see another one saved. Typical another bodged repair causing more problems than if they just left it, hopefully it hasn’t caused you too many issues. Thank you very much, it’s taken a bit of hard work to get it to this point.....the main thing I find is after I do something I think of or find (on here more often than not) a better way of doing it.....should’ve named it the hindsight project haha! it’s lots of fun and the quick rack, lack of power steering and ABS make all the difference. Haha go for it, the S1 for economy and daily duties then the gti for summer b-road blasting 👍.
