One of the guys I work with bought one a couple of years ago needed a good service an a radiator but it has been brilliant since, fuel consumption isn't wonderfull but aside from the usual checks for rust accident damage and lack of servicing they are pretty tough. Engine / box if ford and goes on forever if properly serviced, the rest is VW. Sounds about right Went to look and take a cautious drive around the block last night after work. Then went to see a mate at their factory shop nearby. Interestingly another guy I met before, was there, knew the car since three owners ago. Seems this guy had it two plus years, previous owner even longer. And he was a meticulous owner, keeping records of stuff etc. Right now though........l Car is a bit scruffy and needs a decent valet, some TLC with window winder, seat adjuster knob refitted Some door panel upholstery tucked in and secured. Needs front brakes serviced.
Driving it, itโs larger, more planted than the 1.4 petrol that is Prozac, never tested motor in drag racing mode, but unlikely to win stop street Grand Prix. However it is comfy, and rear end is cavernous, compared to the van that can, Prozac.. And vitally, it has a towbar. At ยฃ700.00 plus ยฃ325.00 tax plus ยฃ300.00/year insurance Itโs within my โBanger budgetโ and if a similar diesel was about, that would be better....... So 24 hrs to make up or change my mind........ Interior all over needs a clean. Ohhh.... And I would love a set of these E-Class wheels. So...... Comments, opinions, other options?

Sometimes one needs to just do things.
Diesel is a good alternative in the case of these busses, but not a deal breaker, unless double the economy is an issue.
But after two V8โs where you know the economy sucks, but the smiles just keep on coming..... I am happy with that option. Also at 3k miles per year, maximum use, but paying for 4500miles of petrol (get my maths?) and having a van like this, itโs worth considering
140+ bhp vs 70-ish horses Auto vs Manual (I do like manual) not a deal breaker either. 140 bhp with Towbar fitted vs cost of having one fitted to 70-ish bhp. Rarely enter London, and in time it will become a bigger problem for us all. (Stealth taxes) Agreed on looks, not as bad as a similar Hyundai, Kia, Ssangyong and others. But I also prefer the older stuff. Prozac will never die ๐
Sally left earlier, and she never interferes with my car craziness, she just laughs and looks out for the mental health ambulance. But she said to me โDo you really need a replacement now, spending ยฃ1000.00 to get a new car on the drive?โ
I honestly did not really have an answer, but replied as expected......โYes I doโ
You are right too, if this car has not suddenly gone bad somewhere invisible and caused the old guy to buy another, itโs known history and MOT pedigree, along with low miles, implies a car, that though not cheap to tax relative to others, at ยฃ1.00 per day, and insurance similar at 80p a day....... I may end up scrapping it, as I will never get my money back, but then neither do smokers, drinkers or people who go on Mediterranean cruises.
I have looked at brake shoes, Euro carports have a 37% advertised offer this weekend, so front pads will be about ยฃ26.00 once discounted, and it needs them according to the owner.
Sounds pretty right for a large van type car to me.

. . . . . .
NEXT QUESTION.......
WHEEL GUYS.
What alternative cheap, used wheels can one fit from other models on these specific Galaxy models?
I do like the Flat 5 Spoke in the pic above, said to be from a Mercedes Benz E Class, but a mate told me they are not Mercedes wheels
I have no idea on et, PCD and all the rest one needs to consider when fitting wheels.
Thanks again guys. . . . . . .

Basically dude Merc wheels will bolt straight on with merc wheel bolts. You can if you so choose use spigot rings but shouldnโt be necessary.

Offset from the centreline of the wheel to the hub face in MM. itโs not a lot so itโs most likely going to be fine.

IIRC these are VW passat based so have that as a starting point If you fit wheels off something else with the correct PCD but a bigger bore you really really need some spigot rings in the wheel centres. The centre bore of a wheel / hub interface takes all the vertical loading and keeps the wheel centered. The bolts are there to keep the wheel on the centre bore. You used to get some nut centric wheels on old cars (imps ?) where the wheels / nuts have deep dishes to keep everything centered but modern stuff is all hub centric. No personal experience but understand that many 'wheel balance' issues on cars with alternative rims is actually a wheel centre problem. Alloy spigot rings are cheap as chips to convert so a no-brainer for peace of mind. Good luck with the purchase (or not) James

No!
The centre bore is there to centre the wheel, it takes zero loading...

Literally locates the wheel, don't get me wrong, i'd want them as you can easily get the wheel slightly out.
Wheels are held on by clamping force

No, it really doesnโt take โvertical loadingโ. Itโs a load of twaddle. Itโs the ensure and simplify the wheel centred on the hub, if you have tapered or ball seat wheel hardware and torque them correctly that self centres the wheel on the hub. Itโs a myth that the spigots take any load, otherwise the spigot adaptors wouldnโt be made for brittle cheap plastic!!

5x112 is one of the most common pcd's now. VW/Audi/Seat - Most since the mk5 platform, but not the smaller car's as they stayed 5x100 - The big stuff like T5's are 5x120 & the Toureg is 5x130 though Mercedes - from the 80's onward (they maybe all 5x112, but not 100%)

Or 6 Spoke. Hmmmmm Many options. But only one set to wear. 17โs probably would look nice. Still, not bought yet.

One point to note on the galaxy The front wiper linkage loves to seize and then burns out the wiper motor
Linkage removal is fairly straightforward to strip and regrease
Replacement wiper motors aren't cheap Some models also had an auxiliary heater fitted which works a little bit like a diesel night heater. The glow plug that ignites the diesel like to fail and when that happens you get a whole load of smoke from just Infront of the passenger side rear wheel cheap and easy fix is pull the fuse out
Wiring harness between the doors and boot rub and eventually break the wire Oh and they eat front drop links

Petrol model would it have a heater? I know the tailgate only opens by key, is it a great problem?? Not sure, not bothered, but can it be fixed DIY ? Guess linkage service on the books. Front screen took a while to clear with blower, and it seemed front screen filament heater was not working, certainly not as fast as the Focus I drive daily. Drop links......? Easy to replace ?

If the heated screen is buggered it's a lot of money to replace
Drop links are a doddle if you allow half an hour you will have time to make a cuppa after Boot release is possiblity the wiring harness knackered if you leave it as it is the alarm will start going off at random times
Not sure if the petrol came with the auxiliary heater Check the footwells for water and damp Also the rear seats that lift out are heavy and really hurt when you drop one on your foot๐ ๐ ๐ ๐ ๐

Rear tailgate, key no problem, but random, or any alarm going off...... pita unless a simple fix. No idea of course. Drop links, great news as I do love a cuppa. ๐ Aaaaahhh, footwells, looked fine, but there was silicone smeared around drivers side tiny quarter window, owner said he thought someone may have needed to break into it, after it locked itself with keys inside, seems it happened to him when fishing, except rear window was down that day, allowing entry. I had a Chrysler Neon in 2000 that did that even from new. Regarding the heavy seats, I will make a mental note.

And ANOTHER QUESTION Do any of you know this company for insurance? One tends to see the ones advertising on telly or print mainly. Even that is no endorsement. I noticed there was about 5 variations of this company with different quotes Compared to the ยฃ500+!from my regular telephonic broker that is about ยฃ300.00 less. And includes Sally as a driver. And about ยฃ85.00 less than Prozac the 1.4 Berlingo for me alone. Thank you all again.
