You are going to struggle getting that head off. Corrosion builds up between the studs and the head, and locks them solid. I had to completely strip the last one I did, pull the crank, drop the pistons out the bottom, and drift the head off with a big hammer and a length of fence post up through the bores.
Mind you, it needs to come apart anyway, because you’re on a hiding to nothing trying to clean that up in-situ.

Thanks Glen(?) but I took the chickens way out and just got another engine. The old engine was seize solid.Turned out it was the oil pump that was seized and in my attempts to un-seize it sheared the gears on the cam and oil pump driveshaft. Every days a school day.

Sounds like you made the right decision. You might be able to salvage something from it though, you never know. They’re a brilliant little engine when in good nick. Light, revvy and flexible. The 750 is happier to rev, and the 850 pulls a little harder. They’re really not tolerant of neglect though. Keep the oil topped up and change it regularly, and make sure the antifreeze is fresh too. I’d quite happily have a Kitten or a Rebel, but I’ve had enough 3-wheelers for one lifetime. They seldom come up in the South East for some reason.

Not a great image but you get the idea, a van is being born. Both sides have fibreglass panels ready to be bonded in soon.

By the way if any Kitten owners want glass I have a windscreen, 2 rear screens (1 heated, 1 not), both sides of the rear estate and a driver & passenger side. I will be going lexan all round. Collection Cheshire (pm me) or as I get out and about during the week can meet along the way maybe.

Is lexan ok for a front screen?

Not for a road legal car, no. Has to be glass as far as I know. Lexan can be used for an unframed or partially framed wind shield I think but a fitted screen must be glass.

Even if it was legal, dirt and wipers will render it opaque in about three wipes!

I'm putting a glass windscreen in these are the spares that came with the car and the bits I don't now need (hence 2 rear screens), I also have 2 drivers side windows. My van panels are made from the bottom half of two doors that also came with the car (hence a different reliant colour), they had totally shot hinges that had rusted out, so I recycled them.
The drivers door and passenger will be lexan along with the rear screen (no wiper).

If it’s in OK condition, and you’ve got the room to store it, I’d keep the glass, just in case. I’d definitely keep the spare screen at least.
That said, I’m drowning in junk here, and I’m not the best person to listen to some times. 🤣😉

The rest of the glass I won't need and cannot get stuck storing it as I have to many car parts as it is, but seems a waste to scrap considering the possible rareness. Free to a good home, now I'm joining the RKR I might see if they want it.

Reliant glass.
Asked for once in a blue moon.
Surprisingly resilient when lobbed over the edge of and 18ft high wall at the tip.

What's the plan for the bike engine drive train? Front mounted you tend to lose most of the passenger footwell.
I have seen a rear mounted bike engine attached directly to an axle that had been turned around. That seemed a neat solution.

I’d love to see another one done on 10” wheels . I had a Suzuki v twin in the back of my van with a chain driven diff and inboard discs at the back with home made disc set up at the front . 480kg and a hoot to drive with the tall 165/70/10 on , geared it for 11 mph per 1000rpm so not much fun to cruise but great round shortish circuits

I have seen a rear mounted bike engine attached directly to an axle that had been turned around. That seemed a neat solution. That is a good question and I am starting to thing about it and will need help, the engine will most likely come from a kawasaki zx12r due to the BHP, torque and cost of a donor. I think this could fit in the front but would need some cutting down of the internal Kitten structure, which is not a big deal as a cage will be used to strengthen. However I like the idea of rear engine but the rear axle is leaf spring mounted (although will be stiffened by coil overs). In an idea world I would use an MGB GT axle (as this will convert to LSD), could you then mount an engine on this and connect via chain drive ?

Might have some photos somewhere . I built a de Dion axle on mine . There’s a few on rkr with bike engine builds , I’d do some gearing spreadsheets if your going to run engine up front to a diff as you’ll need something fairly tall to give you a bearable cruising speed
