Okay, so after the finish of my MG Sebring I needed a new project and unlike the MG I wanted something very fast on completion, the start point of fast is light weight and I had previously considered a Reliant Kitten (500Kg starting weight). With my MG project finished I started to look for a Kitten in earnest, they are more rare than you think, after much searching I found an estate. It had a broken engine and a questionable body but was available and cheap, 340 mile round trip later less £600.00 and I am the proud owner. The plan ? Tidy but with patina, van not estate with period livery (BT, Post Office, etc) 180BHP via bike engine, 450KG target weight, rear wheel drive, rear engine (possibly). The start point = The MG took three years, so don't expect massive progress but it will be complete at some time. It is now home and ready for being reinvented to be used for the next 40 years.

OK.
I am watching.
Love watching these builds.
If you like your license plates to be “personal” in a UK style where people pay silly money for a half baked attempt at something resembling a name, the kitten is “TOAst”

BT or Post Office? AFAIK Kittens weren't used by either.
It looks freakin' ace as it is. Quite an unusual colour. Love it

I was watching that on Ebay but got too many projects at the moment as it is.
Had a Kitten saloon back in the day. Didn't do much to it other than a set of wolfrace slots & a silly backbox. Was quite a fun little car even with the 850cc engine.

The anoraks out there will always know an estate from a true van by the details, namely the round headlights that were fitted to the van.
Square light cars with the black grille always looked better to my eye though.
Enjoy the project, hope it turns out alright, there are unfortunately many not so well executed bike engined ones kicking about.

I will have to learn my Reliant's, I did not know that, I also like the square headlights but will now have a look at the round ones as it won't be hard to change. That said I might end up with what looks best as not many people will know that fact.

that's a bit more chassis than i was expecting under there. It is very light, I can pick the back end up without issue. It is in quite good condition I think a wire wheel in a grinder, cure rust & paint will have it sorted. It is quite well planned as the seats & seat belts bolt through the shell into the chassis.

Very cool project, old gsxr 1100 engines where bullet proof and pretty light for the 160 hp they made, maybe a good engine for this?!

Goodbye tiny engine and gearbox, it didn't put up much of a fight considering how long it has sat Chassis clean up next on the list. It is in remarkably good condition. Will chop off a few bits that I no longer require.

Just weighed the chassis as it is 182KG, should be able to get that down a bit but good start point.
