Stunning as always! Is the intention that Blackpop produces drawings that can be CNC routed in the future? Dash panels look easy enough to produce the same way from veneered ply - assuming they're all flat sections of course? Mark (Blackpop) has already CNC cut the current boot & main floor panels - plan now is that with the rest of the aperture information available is to have future batches CNC cut complete with the apertures - dash carries a bow top facing so that cant be undertaken via CNC

Yep - Very much so in fact I'm expecting a visit from moglite in the next 10 mins to deliver a panel that I will arrange to get dipped & primed with a batch of my stuff - no money involved in this particular case its just like minded individuals helping each other where they can - of course doing business with other forum members to produce goods is just another great resource of RR

Cleaned the gauges up and fitted them to the separate dash panel Painted all the fittings up for the boot floor and then assembled them to the floor Placed a body caulking seal to the flange edges that support the boot floor Then fastened the floor in Wider view - the floor has a factory tolerance gapping around it to aid fitting - this is then filled with a mastic type product once the floor is in situ View from the underside Then continued with first stage polishing of the roof Nearside is completed And a start made on the offside Made a start on getting the nearside rear wing fitted - first I have determine the length of the wing piping bead that terminates with the chrome trim Then I need to pattern the holes for the piping bead where the rear wing bolts up to the car Again I used a body caulking for making a seal with the wing where the chrome trim hides the wing edge - the piping bead on the rearward joint of the wing will form the seal for the duration of the wing down to the rear panel Wing bolted up And the piping bead aligned up has the wing bolts receive the final tightening up Check to ensure that the wing has compressed against the body caulking and made a seal - this is hidden by the chrome trim finisher once fitted More tomorrow

Having hated pretty much every moment of my 11 year Paint Spraying career I really appreciate a before/after picture when it comes to paint! A photo makes it look like it just all happens by magic but I know the sweat and toil that goes into each panel!
I also always have better results Spraying in a home made or cheap spray booth than I ever got in super expensive booths working in a bodyshop?! Work that one out

Work that one out Keep up the good work I don't know of anyone that enjoys working in the large set up bodyshops where the continuous production line of motors require painting / refinishing - I think with the push & shove of time critical factors placing a great deal of pressure on the shop floor staff to a great degree effecting the quality of the work that goes out of the door - working from home / doing your own thing and you are free of those pressures - you probably have a free yet concentrated mindset that is set on getting the right results regardless of the lack of fancy & expensive equipment - some trade guys that see the stuff that I turn out of my basic 2 bay workshop are pretty amazed at the results achieved but if you take the time & care nothing is impossible

Found a suitable trim for finishing either side of the boot floor where it meets the inner wing Just when I thought I had everything cleaned up for going back on to the bodyshell - I noticed the fuel tank which I had stored outside was covered in flaking paint / blobs of underseal & rust Hence it was subject to a good scraping off Doused with Hydrate 80 where needed and the top section of the filler neck which is exposed through the rear wing was primed & painted Then I went back to completing the first stage polishing on the roof panel Now all done Flatted the nearside wing back Polished the rear panel up Then the rearward section of the back wing has it would be difficult to undertake once the fuel tank neck is through the wing aperture Fuel tank fitted but requires connecting in the morning Tank mountings allow for a damper between the tank and the body - the tank will be treated with Dinitrol underbody wax when I do the rest of the underside on the car I have a new filler neck grommet to fit yet More tomorrow

That tank does stand out a little when compared with the paint, but I know this is not a full resto.

Alex - Its treated with Hydrate so it will never get any worse and once the Dinitrol underbody wax is on it - it will appear better than when it left the factory - they only had a thin coating of black paint originally which lasted - well not very long at all they did however tin the steel - a sort of protective process and for a fuel tank to last 68 years and still be solid / leak free is something

I didn't realise that the dinitrol would cover this as well. That will tie it in nicely with the floor...
Is your prefered dinitrol still the same stuff I got to hate when working on a mates Volvo Amazon, which had a layer over 5mm thick of dinitrol on it. Everytime you put the jack under it, you'd not only push the jack cup shape into it bvut it would also stick to the jack and sometimes come off the car in that area...it did indeed remain somewhat flexible as opposed to many bitumen based stuff. Also you could not work on that vehicle ever without getting sticky hands as the stuff always got on your hands...

Alex - That must be the old formula Dinitrol - the newer version dries but not to a hard crust and you don't get covered in anything when under the car

So alongside refitting the panels & polishing I'm also bolting things back together on the car both mechanical & cosmetic First thing was to shorten this handbrake rod that bridges the gap between the front & rear cables - both cables have been replaced but they would appear to be slightly longer than the originals which gave too much travel on the lever Handbrake lever is situated under the dashboard just adjacent to the A post Rod now fitted And adjusted up on the rear cable Back to the first stage polishing and finished the rest of the nearside rear wing Which then enabled the chrome finisher to be applied The apertures for the fitting are slotted / oversize to allow for adjustment of the trim - however if you don't seal between the trim and the aperture holes the interior suffers from water ingress - I used the 3M body caulking to create the seal Always nice when you reach the stage that the bling chrome starts to go back on the car Fitted the filler neck grommet which is a very tight fitting Next was the boot lid Again its nice as the panels get fitted and car returns to its defined shape especially on something like this Javelin that carries a very stylised shape to it Trimmed the wing piping up and fitted the offside rear wing Flatted the boot lid and made a start with the polish Cleaned the replacement trafficators up then tested them - worked but differing levels of brightness from bulbs - hence they got taken apart and all the contacts cleaned up - reassembled & retested with matching levels of brightness - more tomorrow
