Mahle pistons are definitely a good way to go, I'm trying to push my customers towards them at the moment as the quality is much better than most other brands. Think they're ~£450-500 a set.
I've not found stock pistons to be as bad as the internet seems to suggest. We have a couple of customers who run reliably around the 400hp mark with them but it's taken a lot of work to have (as close to as possible) zero chance of det, as it instantly crunches the ring lands. Cooling is a big part of it, I believe they pull timing and add fuel for the centre 2 cylinders under high load to compensate for the stock manifold.

I'm just trying to reduce the potential of a ringland letting go and grenading my engine, but sure i don't think its massively common. what cars is this? celicas? yeah i really need to sort my sidemount out if my new intake pipe doesnt fix my iat's.

Just stumbled across this thread. First of all let me just commend you for your efforts and for saving an MR2! I've developed a bit of an obsession with MR2s of the SW20 flavour recently and very nearly bought a low milage 10th anny a few months back. Car looks to be coming on well - keep it up! it feels like the value of these will begin to rise soon as more and more folks catch on to how much of a performance bargain they are - spied a few youtubers getting on the midship bandwagon lately. The one I was looking at was up for like £4k and was mint, limited edition and low milage - genuinely can't think of a better looking car out there for the money tbh. I'll be watching this thread with a keen interest!

Well my cam cover leaked oil into my alternator which then in turn broke that. I replaced the cam cover seal and used new cam cover bolts with rubber washers. This now seems to be holding oil. I replaced the alternator today: And thank god it's charging great now. So I'm happy. I then got asked to look at a high priority job (the Mrs hair straighteners) One resistor later and brownie points earned I was back working on the car. My new turbos arrived :thumleft: can't wait to get it installed. Brownie points have worked out well. The Mrs has offered to follow me to the garage tomorrow to get the mr2s tyres changed and a long overdue alignment done

They use Celica running gear but not actually Celica's, not sure what the sport is they're used for, rally raid or similar - big climbing frame of box section with 4x4, lots of suspension travel and lots of power.

Had a day off today. So I've been fixing the smaller jobs. Finally got around to sorting my driver's door glass. The blue is where the glass on the right of the picture used to sit when the door was closed. So it's now sitting in the right place against the seal. Whilst doing the window I noticed I'm missing one of these plastic wedges which wont have been helping the window angles at all. Also I changed the intercooler pipework clamps from wormdrive to mikalors. Looks much better and it all feels so much more secure. got a pile of parts building currently and I'm tempted to install my new turbo before i forge. I also picked up a new block, a 98+ 3sge block which is known to have the weak water pump area reinforced and is made from a better cast material. so ill be using that for my forged build.

Well ive had a few days off work so i installed my boost control circuit on megasquirt, i then installed the MAC solenoid and configured it all: 13/14psi is a noticable difference from the usual 10psi.I did notice my stock turbo runs out of steam ~5k rpms, so boost tails off. good job ive got that new better turbo to go on. either way I'm happy to finally have my electronic boost control working. I'm also building a bluetooth serial adapter for megasquirt, and then because my cars radio is an android headunit i can install the megasquirt android app and tune/make changes from my radio touch screen which should be cool. also ordered all new speakers, try and get some nice sounding music in the car, enjoy it a bit more. still need to source a quieter exhaust though.

ive been slacking on my updates. I've not done much since the last update as ive been on holiday/sorting a daily out. I took the car to get a custom exhaust setup, i wanted 3" to help with the turbo back pressure but didn't want it to be as loud as it was with the Apexi GT bean can i had on previously (got some not happy looks at C&M the one time i visited with goldnrust) I went on a shopping spree and ordered some bits: Full engine gasket set Toyota Oil Pump, Aisin Water pump/pulleys and HKS fine tune cam belt. AN12 fittings my friends sorting to be welded onto my rev3 rocker cover. Rev 3 Head to be fitted to my engine block. My mate Ian made a sleeve for my an fittings to fit his lathe so he didn't damage the threads. He then turned down some of the metal and got them welded to my rocker cover. I'm chuffed Think I'm going to black crinkle.paint the cover (once I've cleaned it lol) Well I picked my engine up from the machine shop. And stopped by my mate Chris over Worcester for some other bits (Turbo Adapter plate and screamer pipe all ceramic coated). Got a nice shiny genuine tial wastegate off Chris too. I also popped to Bristol before lockdown and picked up some new alloys: I'm not massive on tyre stretch but i think this looks ok. genuine enkei rpf01's. my old alloys (copy's of copy's) weighed an absolute ton compared. I have also had some front end vagueness so replaced the steering rack bushes with poly ones: Since the above work ive parked the car at a relatives and i will be taking it off the road whilst i do the forged engine build. I need to sort a clutch and pistons/rods as ive got everything else now. I cant wait for the first drive with the new turbo setup and all that extra boost :-)
