Bits arrived! Not overly exciting. But! Suspension geo is much better now, more lock when steering and the centre drive through axle arrangement is lovely. LowStandards all I will suggest is be prepared to make gaskets to shim the drive covers on the axles to get the pinion/CROWNwheel mesh right, they all seem to just bind when built without a gasket. Easy remedy though.

Mine came last week RichI forgot to mention it in any capacity I built them up straight away and yeah, I had to make some paper gaskets. I'd hope, as it seems to be an issue, that they'd have some cut and supplied by now, as they're not the funnest shape to knock up. They are much better than the plastic affairs in almost every way. I'm up and not binding now though, so I can use her again. Although I am waiting on some matt clear to arrive else my weathering will just come off in the wind I'm having steering issues, but looking at your pic, it's because i've gone and put the servo link onto the opposite side, so i'll remedy that later I need to order a single speed box. I notice you've got one for the C series, you planning on modding it to fit? Not sure if yo've seen, apparently the spring clips are prone to getting caught on the ground and flicking off, which in turn means you lose the pin. Folks seem to be putting a bit of shrink wrap over them and that fixes the problem

Brother has a toy car for his boy that runs around a track that has the same motor in it as the original WPL motor

Loving the details on the trucks and the course looks excellent! I have started gathering materials for a set of challenge Obstacles but so far everything we’ve tried to get done at home that is a ‘small job’ has escalated, like digging out a raised bed to find 2 skips worth of concrete and rubble and a complete concrete pond Built with ree bar cast into it. And I went to fit guttering to the workshop today after all the roofing and rebuild repair to find one of the double door hinge posts was pulling out of the wall and the other upon inspection was packed away from the wall at the bottom because the wall isn’t square. So I had to make a new hinge post for one side and rehang the doors, which is no small task considering the whole building is a strange rhombus thing. No rest for the wicked

I gave the truck a coat of matt clear this weekend This has, as expected, removed the dusty aged look that the weatering kit adds, but as she's not a static model, this is a better choice than getting paint powder all over yourself, then everthing else you touch. I gave the truck a coat of matt clear this weekend This has, as expected, removed the dusty aged look that the weatering kit adds, but as she's not a static model, this is a better choice than getting paint powder all over yourself, then everthing else you touch. === Just need to weather the front bumper now and paint the interior and find a driver and fit all the glass and... I keep meaning to send you some figures for the driver. I'll see if Zoe can post some tomorrow, I'm sure you gave me your address. I've done some wheeling with the ZIL, more so now the motor is upgraded and the props are metal etc and the biggest issue aside from open diffs (that's a challenge, not an issues ) is that it is really top heavy. I was only using the KUNG temporarily to have a body on it while I decided what to do, So I decided what to do. Start by removing the KUNG. Started building a brass frame. Followed by some booms.. Few detail shots, pulleys made from M3 nuts ran round on the bench grinder, and the cable hangers are front spring 'shackles'. I slimmed the flyer braces as they were pretty chonk. So to set the boom height, bearing in mind this is a vague USSR copy of a Holmes (seeing as most USSR trucks of this era and previous were plagiarised American designs), the booms are lifted with the winch and then locked off on the chains at the hooks on the flyer. Simple, functional, probably pretty unsafe in real life. So perfect. Next I needed to cobble up a twin drum winch. Seeing as I have an output on my receiver board to run a 'motor' (winch) this should at least work.. Cue the old motor and gearbox assembly from the truck, with some random servo parts, some G scale loco parts and a length of M3 bar replacing the final drive output. Then I made the rear lift assembly and fitted temp cable and hooks. Sadly I made that lift part from memory and it's pretty wrong but it looks good, it should be an A frame that the end can pivot on but I kinda also wanted maximum clearance for the hitch on the rear for trailers. I have a plan to have it functional though as a lift. Best refit the most important part! And a trail fit of the running boards I made earlier on for the failed tractor attempt. So as of now, i'ts in paint while I wait for hooks, cable and chain that isn't bright gold

Looks sweet Rich, amazing what a bit of paint does, my mind couldn't overcome the harshness off the brass Yea, it was pretty bright. Made a hell of a difference in terms of how it ‘comes together’. Looks more coherent now. Your ‘care package’ will be in the post today. Cheers dude. It’s ok, nothing on the skills of people who build entire railway locos and stuff out of brass but but it gets me by. It’ll certainly be the only one of its kind. Most people building recovery trucks either build them as ‘toys’ with spares as a ‘I’ve had an idea’ or just 3D print it all, not that either of those are a wrong answer, as long as you’ve had fun doing it and all that!

So, here we go! Chain and 'cable' turned up today so I got to rigging the booms and winches. That was not fun. Red hooks are temporary. A video of it in operation you say? Why not! Few more pics. Starting to look pretty good. Waiting on more materials for the next part of the build as well

My C24 RTR has turned up today! The tyres are soaking in WD40 in the sun. I'll give them a few hours and then have a play!

What is the benefit of soaking the tyres in WD40?

What is the benefit of soaking the tyres in WD40? The ready to run tyres are quite hard. Soaking them in WD40 helps them soften up which can help with grip. The stock motor seems to be VERY weak and the RTR is none proportional steering . So I think my 1st mods will be to replace ALL the electronics!

So I think my 1st mods will be to replace ALL the electronics! you've ended up with one of the early RTR models if it's non proportional steering, WPL themselves don't sell the non proportional models, but, easy enough to upgrade, that is part of the appeal to me, cheap to buy and modify I think the early ones only had a 130 motor too. Stock now is 160 iirc, and the sensible upgrade for a C series truck is the 370 single speed reduction case. If you get more parts, I’d honestly recommend going straight to WPL-RC.com as they are the proper official parts that way. The only thing they don’t do is the mini servos separately for the steering.
