I would look at 225 front, 255 rear and then work out what aspect ratio gives you the right diameter.

I can't seem to find many tyres in those sizes tbh do you know of any that would be suitable? most of the 255 tyres are 4x4 tyres with a 70 profile... also i don't know whether 225 and 255 tyres will then catch my arches, have posted some more photos below to show the edge of the lips when on the car I've got 9x15's on the back of the Manta with 225/50 R15 tyres. Which brand of tyres did you go for? You don't have happen to have any pictures do you of the tyre 'stretch' as well as what they look like side on etc on your car? Thanks Front Rear

My general rule of thumb for not too stretchy and not too bulbous is to do a direct conversion from wheel width inches to tyre width mm.
so...
8" = 8x25.4mm = 205 / ** / 15 tyre. 9" = 9x25.4mm = 225 / ** / 15 tyre.
Then base the sidewall ratio so the overall diameter matches the standard.

Thanks everyone for the pics and all the info, has definitely made me feel more confident that I can find tyres to suit that aren’t going to attract police all the time.. as well as be safe on the road (including all this ‘wet’ we are having at the minute.. lol

I can’t help with tyre sizing unfortunately but that 944 will look wonderful! I look forward to seeing some photos of it with the wheels on. I’m sure there was a member some years ago with a black 944 with these wheels fitted.

Thanks man for saying that, hopefully I can find tyres that fit properly and don’t make it look silly ha trying to keep it as old school as I can really but obviously, the wheels might of had slicks on back in the 70s/80s haha Ahh interesting, will have to see if I can find it, any ideas on what the username was for the black 944 with the wheels on? Cheers

Cheers I've had a quick look and I cant seem to see them. If I remember correctly the car was rear ended and written off unfortunately. It was a black one and I have a funny feeling they were gold 15" splits but I cant for the life of me find the tread. Sumpcracker and DarylH on here had two cracking 944 build threads but it was not either of them. I don't know if its any help but there is Tyrestretch.com which may help suggest a brand or size of tyre suitable.

I'm running 205's (ok they are 17" rims, but same width) on an 8x17 & 9x17 rim. the fronts are an MOT pass, the rears are a fail! I'd say 225's all round is a good shout!

No worries yeh had a look too but couldn’t find it, will have another look tomorrow and try those usernames too, keen to see some more 944 builds as I feel you don’t really get that many.. Yeh had a good look through tyre stretch, not loads of options really for 15x8 and 15x9 on there.. but has helped with a few ideas on what it might look like, a lot are insane stretch though haha which I don’t think i’d want on the old girl, I like that 80s look of balloon tyres tbh ha I reckon somewhere in between balloon and super low profile.. the guy that is doing some bits on her atm said he would trial some random 205 tyres and see what that looks like.. and go from there I guess

Ha nice work, what sidewall size are the 205’s? Yeh I’m swaying towards 225s tbh maybe 45/50 sidewall front and a 60 rear might make them look similar..? I’ve also been toying with the idea of R888... but i’m not sure about them and how bloody wet it is in this country (and then ice maybe soon...) *cries*

The 17's are 205/40's.... or run 205 on the front & 225 on the rear?
