Now I realise the whole VW-aircooled conversion malarky is a bit of marmite analogy for some, but I think this guy has certainly put a lot of time and effort into this conversion. Me, I think it's cool, and I can certainly say I do not think that about some of the conversions I've seen. I've nothing to do with the guy selling, just like the look of this beast. So, is it for you? "Hi this is a real one off classic a 1955 ford pop on 71 beetle floor pan which is all new ,it is rust effect paint over black ,it has a narrowed front beam on air ride suspension and adjustable rear spring plates at rear ,all new brakes ,pipes cables etc ,reconditioned 1641 cc engine fitted which will need running in ,inc timing and carb set up , the car has vents and electric fans for cooling ,it is roof chopped for the real hot rod look ,pop body is pretty solid for 70 yrs old ,front wings being the worst as a bit tatty but still perfect for the rat look ,needs a little finishing like interior and general check over,it has original Baker light dash with vw Speedo fitted looks great ,I really don’t want to let this go but I have no time to finish it and don’t want it out side during the winter ,I’m up for a swop for a classic that’s on the road and I can use if I ever get the time I love all classics /American German french etc, this owes me £9500 to date so £7000 ono" Sorry for the random order of the pics.

Would not buy it (snug fit)
Would absolutely vote yes for it.
Seems well executed based on photos.
Like so many of these crazy builds, they move a stagnant game into fresh waters.
So certainly a yes.

I’ve seen this at a show , maybe late last year / early this year ??
It seemed very well put together with some nice touches .
But i am very much in favour of stuff on air cooled VW chassis , so am probably biased .

What modifications do you think would have been needed (if any) to make the chassis fit to the body or vice versa?

@bellybuilder When I see your avatar it makes me a little bit sick in my mouth. Can't you find something less grim?

Don't like the paint but it sits well and the chop is bang on height wise. Beetle wheelbase is bang on for a Pop at 94.5", the stock Pop being 90" but they look weird at that as the rear wheels are towards the front of the arch and the front wheels are towards the back in the arches.

On paper that should make me want to barf, I saw it at Volksworld (in black and i don't think it had a roofchop) And I thought it was mega-cool. The engine looked so right sitting in the back of it and I thought the whole thing really worked. Not too bothered about it now with the rusty paint, its still cool, just doesnt grab me like it did.

Interesting - but don't understand the motivation to do such a thing. Should have stuck a V8 in it - just my humble opinion, of course.

WHY ON EARTH DID THEY PUT THE VW CRESCENT VENTS ON THE REAR! AND WHY DID THEY POSITION THEM SO BADLY!
Sorry, felt i needed to shout 😉 Still, as a lover of air cooled VW and a previous sit up and beg owner i like it (seen it before) but id have a big old turbo on that.

Interesting conversion but the crescents are off a fair bit!

That would be awesome with a flathead, but I bet it cost as much to build and get on the road with VW underpinnings as just the flathead engine would cost. I agree with comments about the crescent vents and the forced patina look but I’d happily have that

That looks good, its hard to believe that someone with the vision and skills to do that would do what they have with the crescent vents though. That feature alone is in Leepu league while the rest of the car is quite the opposite.

I agree with comments about the crescent vents and the forced patina look but I’d happily have that When i had my 49 anglia i bought a V8 pilot flathead for it. Quickly came to the conclusion it was way too heavy to put in the front of such a small, light car. Would have been cool though. As for cost, i guess £200 beetles with gutter rot and decrepit £500 sit up and begs are a little thin on the ground these days

I'd rather ignore it, wear dark glasses, cross to the other side of road that it was parked on - and walk rather than ride in it - You asked - I answered

Poor in so many ways before you've even considered the cliche engine swap curse word. Than again I'm a curse word when it comes to other peoples cars there arnt many I truly like.

When I saw the title I thought it was going to be the black fenderless one which i can't find any photos of now.
I quite like this over all. The use of the vents on the top of the "boot" is a nice detail. I agree that the crescent vents placed randomly on the sides looks a bit slapdash though and I'd really like to see it in colour.
