Evening all. I have a bucket seat and harness to fit in my car. Removing the factory seat will mean losing the factory seat belt.
Will this bucket seat and harness combo cause me any hassle come MOT time? Do I need to leave the factory belt in place?
Thanks.

No, you don’t need the factory belt. The only stumbling block with bucket seats can be the sliding mechanism, it has to be able to move forwards/backwards unless the tester agrees it’s a competition car.

If the bucket seat is on the standard sliders, that's fine. If the bucket seat is bolted to the floor with mounting brackets, also fine for mot The only stumbling block is if standard airbags, or seatbelt pretensioners have been removed

If you're not sure which component is the stumbling block, (there are at least two), consult your manual.

The seat is fixed to sliders which are then attached to a sparco subframe which is bolted to the car, so the seat will be able to slide back and forward.
The factory seats do contain airbags which i was going to fit a resistor to the harness to deal with any warning lights on the dash.

It should be a fail for side airbags not fitted, but it depends on what there is in the car to signify them having been fitted and the tester knowing

There are some allowances for competition cars (called "rally cars" in the .gov blog) regarding seats, airbags, brake servos etc - is the car going to meet the criteria? mattersoftesting.blog.gov.uk/when-is-a-modified-vehicle-a-rally-car/If not, it's a fail if the seat doesn't adjust fore and aft or if an airbag has been removed. My MOT tester is perfectly happy that my seat doesn't move on my (fully road legal) roadgoing sprint/hillclimb car. A driver’s seat: fore and aft adjustment mechanism not working as intended - Major seat moving inadvertently or backrest cannot be retained in the upright position - Dangerous An airbag fitted as original equipment obviously missing - Major An airbag obviously inoperative - Major

A driver’s seat: fore and aft adjustment mechanism not working as intended - Major seat moving inadvertently or backrest cannot be retained in the upright position - Dangerous If there is no more to that then no mechanism should be fine as there then isn't then a mechanism to not be working? I know my cars with seats bolted to the floor have never had a problem at MOT. Thanks for the link though, I didn't know removal of brake servo was a fail, I had contemplated that on some vehicles.

Took the servo off my elan donkey's years ago (even after 2 re-builds still randomly sucked all the brake fluid out and never could bleed it properly), never been a problem at the MOT, it meets the efficiency comfortably and they seem happy.

What's in the book and the nominated testers knowledge are 2 completely different things tho

i remember getting a sweat on with my track day car as the buckles and straps were not kite marked, or E prefix type approval (despite being FIA approved and obviously better than a single inertia belt) he basically its just condition and operation.

Some cars (R50 mini) that came with side airbags in the seat, Mini did a dealer fit seat (Sparco Milano) without airbags where the side airbags were coded out so the front two worked as normal. I had these seats then swapped them out for fixed back recaro pole positions, never had an issue with the last 10 mots.
