After realising I was becoming a creature of habit I changed my show attending this year, traveled a bit further, went to shows I thought were out of my league in terms of car quality and my love for car shows had been reignited can’t wait for next year’s show season. try some different shows next year you may find some you love. Retro rides goodwood weekender is by far my favourite

I'd like to see more shows linked to actual events. Like the old Retro Kings show that was alongside a round of time attack. Thays why i like the idea of bringing a proper motorsport event to the gathering. Sadly since my car hasn't been eligible to go up the hill there for a few years theres just been not real point in going. A field full of cars isnt of interest to me even if they are of RR variety.

I am a bit the same, I suppose. I like going to meets/shows but, once I have had a walk around, took a few pics, I am done and out of there. I cannot imagine having a car to show and being stuck there all day long with it.

I remember doing virtually every Mini event on the calendar in the mid-late 90s, when there was a great club vibe and nothing was too expensive. Mini in The Park when held at Cornbury Park in Oxfordshire was excellent, but I eventually got bored and moved on as I was seeing the same cars over and over. I then went to GTi International in about 2005 as I had a Golf GTi. The atmosphere there was absolutely toxic by comparison. If you weren't "Scene" you were not part of things.
I've been to a few general car shows since, but I always have an escape plan and I NEVER do over-nighters anymore. Trade stands barely exist anymore (the internet and eBay killed off Autojumble) so now I mainly head to local pub meets. I have a fairly hectic social life anyway, so I can't simply just drop things and go - I have to make sure I plan ahead! I guess if I actually got the Midas finished I might make more of an effort...

The above posts are the way I felt until my son got me back in the scene again I can’t recommend RR events enough , goodwood was a superb weekend and although we only spent Sunday at the gathering we can’t wait to do the whole camping bit next year, I haven’t met one person with an attitude at the RR events

You can't beat the RR shows once you've been to one. Simple as. I went to the early ones at Mallory Park and Gaydon, and they were great. Even though David and crew were finding their feet. Gaydon was especially memorable because of the night time social aspect. We had a couple of gazebos, markbognor had procured a generator, a projector screen, projector and his lap top to run it. As everyone was chatting, drinking, eating and having a great time we had movies on to watch. I recall 2 lane black top at one point and maybe Ronin. Unfortunately, due to work, family, no retro and financial position I've been unable to get to another. The Haynes and Shelsly Walsh locations are too far away for me to justify going for one day. That doesn't mean I don't want to go, I'd love to. I did however manage to persuade the in house accountant to allow me to buy some tickets for this weekends Euro Finals at the Pod. That will be the first thing I've been to in over 5 or 6 years.

This year we were all still up at 3am, rather curse word and shouting obscure British comedy quotes at each other...

They don't deserve to get anyone through the door at those prices. To take myself and family with parking and fuel I am looking at £100! I like a show but I can think of much better ways to spend £100.

I was doing every mini show on the calendar from 98 to 2009 and the mini 40 sticks in my head as the best. I don't think I looked round it all in 2 days. My Mrs still has her club t shirt that she got John Cooper to sign. Mini in the park trade and jumble was the reason I went and it would take a year searching round shows to gets the bits you wanted to get the cat just how you wanted it. Happy days.

As I’ve said before, I love an autojumble. My eldest son and I do the mark Woodward ones at Newbury and Malvern, we started getting a pitch because it was easier than dragging stuff back to the car park every half hour. A pitch as big as we like costs £30 for a car, trailer and two people ( who runs a pitch singlehanded?) plus we have the bonus of getting in early and buying the bargains. I’ve only been to beaulieu auto jumble once, and that was only as a buyer, but they have a great courier service which tags your parts and takes them to a car park holding area for you to collect later. Other shows need to take note!

I reckon there embarrassed 😳 Ok Friday is the most expensive day with Saturday and Sunday being £28 but you still have to add parking to this which is £12 in advance or £16 on the day. Don't forget, though, that there are advance discount codes usually floating around for this show, and you don't have to park in the NEC Car Park. It's still a relatively expensive show, yes, but indoor shows usually are. I did use that show to mentally justify the cost of displaying my car at Car Fest, though, as that's now by far my most expensive show as an exhibitor (*). I display my cars at static car shows all through summer, and while I enjoy doing it, I do select them based on what I'm going to do all day. I still enjoy it, in varying amounts. I have been trying to do different shows, but then there are some (Tatton Park, for example) that I don't want to miss. Tatton has a big autojumble still, and there's a lot of park land to wander around if you get bored. But I've also started doing events at Oulton Park, for example, where there is track action to keep me occupied during the day. I used to enjoy the local Pageant of Power for the same reason, but it doesn't look as if that's coming back. I have been a bit worried about autojumbles getting smaller, but I think there's starting to be a bit of a backlash against sites like eBay. I noticed this year at Cholmondeley Castle, for example, that the jumble was increasing in size again. Sure, there are some "filler" stalls that the organisers say are to give the other members of the family something to look at (so you'll all bring spouse and kids and pay for them), but the interesting stuff is still around. (* and yes, I do dislike shows that charge the exhibitors for bringing their cars. I could refuse to do any that charge me, but that's a very small number of shows because organisers have costs, and a rainy day with no fee-paying public could wipe out the years profits, and it's my choice - if I think it's not worth the money, I won't bother. It's difficult to complain about paying £3 - £5 or sometimes much more to exhibit the car while having two roadworthy classics with all the others costs they bring. And I perceive I've had that value back, all the better.)

I know that there are some sad curse word that sit in/by their own car all day hoping somebody might ask them about it but in general even though exhibitors pay you still get to look round the rest of the show and therefore charging for entry is fine imo. If I do put something on a showfield it's generally so it's a convenient place to leave my fags/drink etc. Plus my cars always make everybody else's cars look mint.

Also I’ve just seen an advert for the restoration show at Stoneleigh park, which as some will know isn’t that far from the NEC, and tickets are £10 on the door, last time I went parking was free, which is on 27th October I think
So that’s a third of the price Think I know where I’ll be going! Edit- parking is free again
