Although all the club stands are manned by volunteers they need to look has professional has possible so a few things to think about - somewhere on the stand where bags / jackets etc can be stored safely out of the way - up to you but I ban chairs on the stand nothing looks worse then individuals sat in chairs on a stand - and when you vacate said chair - a member of the public comes up and decides to slump into it - sounds harsh but I ban eating on the stand again nothing looks worse and there are a load of places to eat elsewhere - I do relinquish at the end of the day though has the halls start to empty and if we can afford the NEC bar charges a round of drinks normally appear for the stand staff Grumpy Man talks a lot of sense - Over the years I've been on the Autobahnstormers stand at the NEC three times 1st with Senator 24V, 2nd with the LC and 3rd with the Monza 24V With a one make/marque club you have to try and cover the range spectrum - RR has a huge spectrum that's gonna be really hard to cover without some explaination....... The NEC Classic show is a great show (despite the cost) but being on the stand for a weekend is without doubt bloody hard work

but being on the stand for a weekend is without doubt bloody hard work Youngsters these days have no stamina. In the past I used to do the Hannover Fair for 10 days straight and HAVE to go drinking on East German stands after the show closed. The vodka wasn't bad and we could always play mind games with the Stasi plant. They usually wanted to defect as much as the other poor sods.

With a one make/marque club you have to try and cover the range spectrum - RR has a huge spectrum that's gonna be really hard to cover without some explaination....... I see it something like this Three Clubs for the Vintage Boys, under the sky, Seven Clubs for the Hobbyists in their sheds of stone, Nine Clubs for the British Marques, doomed to die, One Club from the Dark Lord HotWire brooding on his throne In the Land of Retro Rides where all the good things lie. One Club to rule them all, One Club to find them, One Club to bring them all, and in its greatness bind them. Now all we need are some decent quirky cars and other projects to attract people onto the stand and we will try to convert them to the true faith but while being less well dressed than the Mormons.

Have you sorted cars for the display yet? What have you got on the stand? Now here is a top tip from someone that's been managing club stands at the NEC for the last 10 years - you cast a meaty morsel but you don't reveal your trump hand and if you do the element of surprise is entirely spoilt (plus you get the usual well I've seen that one & the other one - so I wont bother going) - On the other hand John you could just have a chat with me over a cuppa when you are at my place fixing the workshop lights next week

Hi,
I hope the plans for the show are going well, not sure how but I totally missed this as if I'd known I'd have happily offered the E-Type for the 70's.
IF you run this again next year let me know as I'm guessing the E-Type may cause some controversy but it may also be too mainstream with all the other options available from the RR collective.
Good luck, hopefully I'll get there this year & if I do will ensure I make my way to the stand.

Don't worry Ian - However I hate to remind you but the daily NPS* will probably kick in with 6 weeks to go - don't worry I will be thinking of you next week whilst I'm in the Greek Isles sunning myself in front of the pool with the G&T on tap * Nervous Poo Syndrome (Happens 3 times a day with 2 weeks to go)

OK messages don't seem to be working for me at the moment so the state of play is as follows: It's 5 car stand + one Readers Other Modification and we have 3 confirmed and one possible at the moment. The overriding criteria is that you must be able to deliver the car on the Thursday before the show and pick it back up on the Sunday evening/Monday morning WITHOUT FAIL. If interested please reply with a couple of good shots (minimum) here (as messages not working for me!) and they will be put before t'committee for selection. tominthewoodybenw456DaveFHoTWireand anybody else that has a show worthy piece of tin/ ROM they'd like to get national exposure.

Nope not one of those type of resorts & not with Thomas Cook either (not that I am gloating either - I feel sorry anyone that has a holiday booked or is in already on holiday with them - But TC marked their cards when they spoilt a holiday of ours nearly 40 years ago - I said I would never use them again at the time and I never have) None the less our hols could also go pear shaped has everything including flights / hotel & car hire were booked through British Airways and they go on strike has soon has anyone changes the toilet paper from quilted to the Costco economy range in the staff toilets

Hi Frankenhealey ,
Thanks for organising this & for the reply. Whilst I'm happy & keen for others to have a chance to show their hard works I am, with enough notice, able to get a car to the NEC on Thursday & collect Sunday / Monday as long a I can use a trailer?
A couple of options as below:-
The Chevette,
Fully operational & currently road legal. Family owned from new (1975), converted with running gear & mechanicals from crashed Mitsubishi EX2000 Turbo in 1993, radically modified underneath & currently running 233bhp so probably more of a RetroRides Car?
All work done by me / my father
The E-Type:-
Fully operational but currently off the road (for a rest). Barn found in 2012, originally Blue but painted Red in 1985, unrestored externally but modified underneath with £350 EFI XJS engine from e-Bay (Efi never fitted to E-Type), Underbonnet painted original colour when fitting the engine, Overdrive 4 Speed Jaguar Gearbox (overdrive never fitted to E-Type), High Ratio Rear Axle. Interior unchanged still with 8 Track. Used regularly, even in the winter (as long as the roads are salt free). Probably less of a RetroRides car as there will be other 'Barn Find' cars at the show but it would probably draw the 'Classic Car Establishment' to the stand (if that's what we want?)
To really annoy the purists after I bought the car I found out this car was the Company Car of the late Chairman of Aston Martin (Victor Gauntlett) when he ran PACE Petroleum in 1973 so probably a car that SHOULD be restored (so say others).
All work done by me / my father, as I couldn't afford Jag restoration prices & would rather do it myself anyway!
As found:-
As is now:-
Interior (but now with 4 Speed Manual Overdrive)
£350 E-Bay Engine
Original colour (repainted) when fitting engine:-
Also the Lancer EX2000 but that's not yet back in regular use. Hope this helps, just let me know what the collective say.
