Very impressive progress, especially as you said you were going to take your time. I wonder if the car would already be finished if you'd decided to reassemble it quickly! It must be a joy to work on a car where everything is new/clean. I'd be a bit daunted by the fresh bodywork so beautifully finished by GN, but would love the opportunity to put something like this together. It's not a case or rushing but more that I had around 19 months to prepare parts and get things in place ready for the rebuild and now it is just putting all of these parts back on the car and improving some of them if needed and or cleaning and repainting parts to re fit as far as I'm concerned this is still the easy section of the rebuild it's all the fine detail and little things that are not noticed that will take the time to do.
It is nice to have a clean car to work on and a daunting thing to fit thing to the fresh paint but GN has a way of calming fears and putting you at ease with such a task as rebuilding one of his creations.

This will be a new car when done. I love the color, the nice clean engine etc.
Just one little thing and please I don't want to be a know it all but because the car is like new some of the electric wires look a little shabby and are doing the car no justice. Are you dressing this up later?
We did it just like that in an old Cortina we did up. After all the work was done we just hooked everything up and checked if all was working. When all was okay we started to replace cables etc that looked a bit ordinary.
regardless mate, a beautiful car

I must admit I personally would fit a brand new (non stock) loom as nearly all breakdowns are electrical related. Old style connectors are not the best and modern weatherpack ones far superior.
I understand wanting to keep it looking 'original' though.

I agree Mark but its a case that the nos engine loom I have wont connect up properly with the rest of the loom I have so it would not work and I cannot use it I will not be using any high current draw items other than the starter as I will be fully Led on everything but I will be adding fuses which it has never had before.
I can look at getting new engine bay looms made up after I have had time to save up for them.

I can look at getting new engine bay looms made up after I have had time to save up for them. Can't see as this would be beyond your abilities Pete; When we race prepped a J import 400cc motorbike I wired each component to the next using separate wires, proper connectors and soldered all the ends even when crimping was used first. Once it all worked it was removed and wrapped in tape. At least we knew that there were no "spare" wires and it all was 100% right. Disciphering the Japanese wiring diagram was fun though!

I know what you mean Ian I have re wired several cars in my time but the bulkhead connectors are the tricky part as they are molded to the wires and that is the hardest part there is always a way though but not a cheap one, we will see.

Well Front suspension, front hubs, disc brakes fitted and down on it's wheels.
Not many parts left to fit in the engine bay but I will be leaving those off for access to some of the electrics that need to be fitted.
I can still fill and bleed the clutch and the brakes just leaving the those other things till after the electrics have been done.
Pics tomorrow.

Well here are the pictures for yesterdays work. I fitted some better rocker covers that I had powder coated in gloss black much nicer.
It's on my 2" small ramps at the moment as they lift it up just high enough to get under to do simple things like bleed the brakes simple checks, the front suspension still needs to settle but with the weather as it is I wont be moving her until we have some dry days.

Its coming on nicely now, if you have room a bit of heat shrink over the end of the bonnet stay rod it works wonders for protecting the paint

The wheels look fabulous and that paint ... š.
I have to confess the wiring would worry me - I get your point about cost, but if it caught fire that would seem a simple choice.
I put an auto sparks loom in my restoration to give reliability and have the OEM look - though Iām now actually starting to wish Iād done a loom from scratch and put some period looking tape on it. It could be a lot simpler - the 50ās and 60ās looms seem so much more complicated than they need to be now with modern fusing and regulators etc.
One question: Is that the OEM routing for the hard brake lines and wiring on the inside of the drivers wing? Looks wild !
One request: Can I send you some new jubilee clips for that top hose ? They really bother me š
