That is thoroughly shocking, he was always on about a “skim” of filler 2 to 3mm thick. That look like a bodgit and scarper job. No true professional would put their name to that. I hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction. All the best, Norman As I have said before I'm happy with the work he did it's such a pity his ego and dishonesty is driving what he does and is letting him down rather than his skills showing through.
I know others revere him as a master but he's not.

I will get it sorted I have no doubt about that. I'm past the stage of being angry about it now it's been too long, I just don't want others to be taken in by his dishonesty.
That's a noble attitude to have. Did you see the finished painted car before it was delivered? I'm more surprised that a dent that big, with that much filler in wouldn't crack if the "visible" damage it had on delivery had been caused after the paint went on, rather than just been a bad "profiling" (sorry I had to lol) job from the start. Well what's in the past is in the past I cannot do anything about that, I believe in KARMA and everything comes out in the end.
No I did not see the shell before delivery I'm Near Tamworth and he is in Hampshire.
Going by the way it was covered up he knew about it but just took the easy way, the chap who is doing the correction pointed out that given the amount of filler there it would of cracked at some stage through shrinkage and normal use so it's a good job I did not use the car and it has been found before it cracked naturally.

Strange he put that much filler in, even someone with my limited skills can get something like that within a couple of mm of OK then skim over it and doing that is far quicker than ladleing gallons of filler over it.

It was easier CHEAPER and quicker to slap the bog on than for him to do the job properly considering I gave him just short of the cost of a brand new Dacia Sandero for doing the whole thing I would of thought he he would of taken the time to shrink the dent down as much as he could before slapping the bog on. |

Did this have a new wing fitted on that side? Just gone back to the start of this thread, and there is a few pics of the side of the car stripped down, and that wing looks pretty straight from the distant shots, and strangely out of shot whenever there is the wheel well being the focus of attention  Glad to hear it is being sorted tho! Will it be a pain getting the colour matched when re painted? |

That's very disappointing, how thick do you reckon that is?
I suspect some areas of my Jag have a reasonable thickness of filler (especially roof) but of course I'm an enthusiastic amateur rather than a professional and I did try to get it as straight as I could.
The thing that surprises me is if he knew it was like that why would he risk letting someone else touch it?
Are the new place going to take it back to bare metal and get as much of the dent out as they can before refilling?

I’m no expert on bodywork and I assume my Cortina is bogged up just as much as this. You see on all these car programs where they slag someones else’s work off for the thickness of the filler, and they then slather just as much on them themselves. Kindig Customes is a good example of this. A bumper fell and knocked the back of their freshly painted car and a 10mm thick lump of filler fell out.
I think with modern fillers a thicker coating is probably fine, but don’t preach that this sort of thing is below par and do the same yourself.
I’m sure it’s going to come out just fine Pete. Write the whole thing off as a bad experience and enjoy the Corsair.

Will it be a pain getting the colour matched when re painted? He fitted a new near side rear quarter both of the wings were original and in very good condition when he took the shell. If you look back at his thread (top link in my signature) he took double the amount of pictures of the near side front wing than he did of the off side, I never noticed until earlier when I looked to see if I could see a dent, he only starts showing the off side wing after he has profiled it, I may be just being pessimistic but I wonder why?    Yes it will be sorted

I already have done that, It would not be that bad a thing to find if I had known he had had to put some filler there seeing as I know the wings were perfect shape wise before he had the car..   I just want to make sure that others who are still dealing with him understand what they are possibly letting them selves in for. |

That's shocking  As a very basic metalworker I would have a least given it a bit of a knock with the hammer to bring the panel back to somewhere closer to where it should be before layering on the filler. Have you been over the other panels with a magnet to see what else has been hidden? |

How many of the other cars he has done are like that but have not been noticed? |

Wow! That is so deceitful! As has been said it would be bad enough anyway, but the guy was always saying how bad other people's work was...
I *had* been considering getting him to do my Rover P6, as I am very close to his workshop, and his work had looked good but seeing this and hearing how the situation has been handled I will now be avoiding!
Thanks for the heads-up, and I hope the guys that have the car now don't find anything else that has been bodged. It's a beautiful car, and will be fantastic when done, a credit to you.

That’s horrific! I must admit, there were a few alarm bells ringing at various points throughout the thread on this car, but it’s very difficult to say anything at the time. Thinking back on it now I agree with you but I was blind to it at the time, I trusted him and that was my mistake. |
