Hello, new member just joined. I don't normally post up anything on forums but here goes.
We recently moved from a house with a double garage to a bungalow with no garage. We have a nice bit of room to the side and along the side of the garden so the plan is to erect a wooden garage to keep my car out of the elements, i.e. rotten British weather. There's a big pear tree just behind the metal gates which needs to come down ( lovely old thing, but needs must). Also need to remove part of an old apple tree aswell. I was planning on building a car port on the side but managed to pick up a solid 2 year old 19mm T&G 20' x 10' garage for £350. I'm not the fastest worker so I'll post up pictures and info as and when. Here's how things looks at the moment.

How far back are you putting the garage? I'd still consider the car port as well, you can never have enough covered space

Timbo, I'm putting the garage about 12' back from the gates. That gives me enough room to get anything large in and out of the garden and I can also pull the rod out and still be behind the gates. The carport is still on the to do list.

I cut the conifers back about 8-10 inches and have started levelling the ground. The pile of bricks and stones are what came out of the small bridge and rockery. That's all going back in the base!   |

Not sure of the make but it's a nice strong body. All steel boxed. May put up a thread.

The base is now marked out and squared. The digger man is coming next Thursday. He'll be removing 6" so I can put in 4" of hardcore and 4" of concrete so the base will only be 2" above the ground. He said that equates to around 5 tons of earth!! He's also taking up the pear tree so I need to get that trimmed down.  Just finished de-nailing 134 roof boards and all the other bits. Quite a few nails!  So, hopefully in 2-3 weeks I'll be putting the puzzle back together.  This is a sort of budget build so no fancy electrics and such. Probably have 4 fluorescent roof lights and maybe 4 double sockets towards the back of the garage where the workbench will be. I'll report back next week after digger man has been. |

Had a couple of hours to spare today so decided to cut the pear tree right back ready for the digger man to uproot it. The MOT type 1, DPC and steel mesh is being delivered next week. We have a local fella who mixes concrete on site so I need to get a price from him during the week.   |

Remember and get your cable in for power before he does the base. Get the digger man to dig the track while he’s there. Where are you taking power from ?
As others have said definitely worth going for LED strip lights or panel lights. Far better lumen output and a white light. Helps a lot when working.

I was planning on digging a trench before the concrete goes down. I'm having an electrician do the work, I would imagine the power would come from the main box in the house. Looks like I'll be going down the LED route. Prices are not too bad. Cheers! |

Hi, Maybe better still is to run a 4" plastic duct from the house to the garage base with a draw cord through it. That way you can pull power, water, phone or anything else as and when funds or needs arise. An intercom to the kitchen to say "Bring sandwiches"?
