Not a cut and shut at all, the bodies are either just fitted to the chassis of something a bit more manly, like this rebodied AEC- or the bodies are re-purposed and re-coachbuilt with a hoofing great crane as per your image above. a traditional 'Cut and shut' is a totally different thing involving illegally making one vehicle from 2 ruined ones often to sell for profit. Anyway, this is getting a tad off the topic in hand. Cool old busses and bus tow trucks. The tow trucks are more my thing than the busses I will admit I will get you some better pics of the Matador trucks, also the M10 recovery truck is pretty smart with full working workshop in the back.

After masking the cab, hubs, exhaust and anything else that needed covering it was time to seal it all in with 3 coats of shutz. The cab is now getting prepped for paint then I will do the under side of that too.

Possibly interested in this! It's a job I've been meaning to do on the passat for the last few years but can't find the motivation to get underneath on ramps! Thankfully I've been strict about not going out on wet or salty roads so should't have suffered since then.
What sort of price point do you think you might be going in at? E.g. for an estate with only light surface rust but also existing underseal (35 years old). Pics would probably help I imagine? Next to no corrosion that requires attention but again would clarify.
Cheers!

Cheers! Pics would be great mate. If you want to drop me a whatsapp message if you use it on 07708268830 we can have a chat. Roughly though price wise I reckon I could do you that for £550 and would throw in doing a Dinistrol cavity treatment inside your doors, boot and bonnet etc for that. Cheers Wayne

jotun jotamastic is good /fair price Absolutely pointless exercise applying an epoxy mastic of this nature to the underside of a vehicle - its entirely the wrong product for the wrong job regardless of what price it is

Sooo business has gone a little quie! Getting worried what with Christmas coming up! If you want any Rustproofing work doing get intouch as I can give you a really good price. Can anybody share my page on Facebook or point me to some good groups I could share in? Everything is quiet buddy. I run a motorcycle parts business, have done for 22 yrs, never known it so quiet, even more so than the 2008 financial crash. Everyone I speak to, irrespective of what their business is, are saying the same. Coupled with that you are a ‘fledgling’ company & also provide what could be labelled as a want service rather than a need. Something I also have suffered with. I sell service parts, chains, sprockets & they are still buoyant, but I also sell ‘goodies’ you know, fancy chrome parts, loud exhausts etc, not shifting much of that & again it’s because they don’t ‘need’ it. Unfortunately it’s impossible to make customers appear, but I wish you luck & hope you can find the work you require to make a go of it.

I’m nearly a year deep into my Valeting business. Considering it’s my first year I’ve done very well.
Again, I have my quiet weeks.
Scary when you’ve spent the last 22 years getting a solid monthly wage regardless of work load.
Self employment teaches you a lot of harsh lessons.. but has made me a better person all round.
Good luck buddy, if you were local I’d have you do both my cars! It’ll pick up, you need time to establish yourself tho, so be patient.

It all takes time - but shouldn't take too long providing you are good & honest at what you do - I jumped ship 4 years ago from a highly paid salaried career to form my sole trading restoration business - I earn a fraction of what I used to but now work from home and love what I do - but quiet ? - No chance - current lead time for major restoration work in my workshop diary is 24 months +

I think people are spending for Christmas, or at least financially bracing themselves for it, so spending money on things like rust proofing are put on the back burner. I think it will take you a while (and unfortunately some difficult times) to figure out when your quiet times are throughout the year. You might find that springtime is booming as people want to get their classics ready for summer, then if you're smart (and are able to) you can put some cash aside to weather the storm next Christmas. I would imagine your main market is classic cars. Most new cars have long anti-corrosion warranties that extend beyond the owners finance agreement so they just figure they'll be trading it in for a new one long before it starts going rusty. Hope things pick up for you, running a business is a very difficult thing and the hard times can be extremely hard. I’m nearly a year deep into my Valeting business. Things are going really well but it's very stressful at times!

^^ sage observations, indeed...
I cannot imagine a more 'niche <in a niche!>' start-up offer :/
Getting a good reputation for quality & service, with once-only customers... among an old car community where injection/chassis protection comes down to "waxoyling vs old sump oil" DIY..
Clients are going to be extremely thin on the ground.
Wishing you all the very best with your enterprise m8

Motor trade is quiet as a mouse in church at the moment, Supreme leader Boris keeps putting the willies up people and they just won't spend money, the dealership where i work is scarily quiet compared to last year

it never really ocurred to me about the number of trade related business owners that frequent these hallowed halls. if there isnt one already , would a single thread for contributors to "lay out their wares" be a useful resourse to both the business' and potential customers? just a thought!

Slacker,
Is it worth trying to get involved with JDM importers and the like?
I'm saying that having read the advice given to all owners buying imported cars to get proper rust proofing done as a priority of ownership.
You may well have already thought of it but thought I'd mention it.
Best of luck and hope it picks up ASAP.

Pretty dead in the engine game too compared to normal, thought we'd be inundated with all the flooding but people must have been sensible this year. Think it's gonna be a curse word one I'm afraid, quite a few local businesses going bust or downsizing in the motor trade.
