Okay I don't love it yet, but I do rather like it. Hopefully only the hue will make it at all "lemon"-like.
It's already helped me move house, although it tried to break down due to a decade old fuel filter disintegrating, blocking something or other and leaning the mixture until it misfired badly, while loping along the A14 full of my curse word. Can't complain too much when the fix is £2.20 though.
I think the battle with this one will be parts as it's a rare model of a car I've not seen about often, if ever. The 1973 models have different dashboards, lights and trim to earlier cars and production stopped in 74. Also rust but that's a given. Other things to do:
- The tyres are at least ten years old. I've eBay'd some Vredesterin Sprint Classic 185s for the back and Michelin XAS 165s up front.
- The front looks a little high to me and the back too low. I think it needs some new springs and I'm tempted by moderately shorter ones.
- The overdrive unit whines but I have no idea how to get at the oil or what to top it up with.
- Washer pumps don't work.
- I prefer SU carbs so fancy a twin HS6 conversion to replace the Stromberg 175.
- The wheels are poorly painted with chrome trim rings added over the top, yuck!
