Took a little while to find the details but my girlfriend found the e-mail conversation she had with Pathe.
The options were to get a low resolution video which could be done via their website. Or for the high resolution a boradcast licence but at the time (2011) it was £360 + vat per min per year. But they offered another option which was a screener. This contains high resolution versions of the film but with a watermark to protect the copyright. The watermark was a running time code near the bottom of the footage. At the time the cost for 1-3 clips was £50 + vat. I would imagine this has gone up as it has been 10 years.
Hopefully they still offer this option. For our purposes we needed the high resolution and the watermark was of no concern. They were very helpful and friendly. Would thoroughly recommend sending them a query.

And of course wearing suit and tie. There is a clip of one of the Cuthbertson Landrovers being taken round an off road track with the driver resplendent in shirt & tie.

i'd give my left testicle to have the accent of the land rover voice over man "a job of work" Why is it always the left one that is offered for sacrifice? As a left handed man I find that somewhat discriminatory.

Thom Thanks for posting this, I have seen this picture before and I think that my vehicle is the last in the side on line up outside the factory building. The reason I think this is because the others have lighter tropical roofs. The tropical roof on mine started out grey, the same as the rest of the vehicle and that last vehicle seems to have a darker roof. Jet One was a fantastic looking car. I forget the occasion of this line up of vehicles, must look it up.

I am still plodding on, the weather this spring hasn't been very motivational and It has been a struggle to do things. The dash loom is all in and wired up now, a bit of work to free of the starter motor which was seized where the shaft exited the housing. Plenty of oil and a nit of tapping got that free. The starter was other wise in good condition no wear on the brushes or commutator. So back together, a bit of paint and bolted it up. and then this happened (attempts to load video but fails) , but the engine is running and the gear box is all working. Easy to test with out props fitted. I could have done with out the leak in the cast iron pipe though. . Thanks to a friend I have another on the way.

In other news, the Blasted Bear has visited again, to remove 50 odd years of grot and paint. Rather than using Soda which is generally thought to be the only way to go with Aluminium, we have been using a refined, very fine coal slag product, which works just as well, but the media is cheaper. I now have plenty of aluminium panel work to repair, before I can get paint on, which I am hoping to do before the end of the summer.

It's been a while since I updated this, a got a bit daunting sorting out photos and then I lost a load that were on my phone when it died. As usual progress was not as rapid as I would like, but there is progress. Finally the front wings have been assembled, this involved bonding the new inner wings I made to the wing tops, riveting the front panel to the inner and then bolting the outer wing to the inner/top assembly. img.retro-rides.org/i/v/landieles/0bfbb4079140.jpg[/img The wings were then fitted and lined up. This took quite a while as there are so many variables to juggle, plus the welding to the wings have caused them to distort a bit, even though I did a trial fit and make adjustments prior to spraying. To try and get everything square by leveling up the chassis as a starting point and then getting the wing tops level. A pet hate of mine is lopsided wings on a series one restoration. They are seldom perfect but at least I have original pictures to compare against. You might be wondering why the front right panel is black : Vehicles up to late 1953 would have had a black plate riveted to the wing, the idea being the vehicle registration would be painted on to this. In reality most plates were purchased and attached to the plate! By 1954 this plate was eliminated and the wing front painted instead, whilst this might have made a saving on material, wing construction and painting would have become more laborious, by early 1955 the whole idea was dropped and the whole wing just painted body colour.

With the front finished I turned my attentions to the panels behind the steering wheel; front floor, seat box and the rear bulkhead dividing front passengers from second row passengers. This bulkhead is a structural item, it supports the back of the seat box, the front door catches fix to it and the rear doors hinge from it. The design right through the 3 years of production was always a weak spot and years of body movement and door slamming takes it's toll. Once it starts to fail, it is a very rapid degradation. My panel had numerous splits, which I had to have welded. Fortunately a lot of these areas are not visible unless you happen to be underneath the vehicle. So welds were left unlinished to preserve strength. You may also notice from the photos that the door seal retainer had broken away. In the bottom of these 3 pictures you can see I folded up a new seal retainer which I bonded in place and then made a new outer panel which I bonded over the top of the original side and also helped to trap the seal retainer into place. Covering over the original skin wasn't something I would have wanted to do, but I couldn't think of an alternative, apart from paying out big bucks. To remove and replace the end panels would weaken the whole structure significantly as I would not be able to spot weld them into place.

Left hand part is the original corner brace. It's missing the last inch where it work hardened and snapped. I made a wooden former to bend the new one around. The new piece was initially bonded prior to adding rivets for strength. Screws are temporary. Job almost done, steel capping in place to ensure everything lines up, prior to adding rivets. Both sides had to be done.

Well this year has been rubbish for getting much done. First half of the year was taken up with a bathroom refit and D of E volunteering work, which was heavy due to a back log of students thanks to Covid. The second half I got covid myself and then in and out of hospital (no covid related), All that is hopefully behind me now, I will have a little update soon, just need to get some photos sorted out.

As promised a short update, hopefully next year will be a lot better. So I eventually got to spray the rear bulkhead I was rebuilding back in January. I also got some of the parts galvanized a couple of months ago including the frames I built back in 2021, these turned out well and thankfully didn't fall apart in the galv tank. Still plenty of stuff I need to get prepared for the galvaniser, but these were critical bits that I needed to get done to move the project forward.

One part I did fabricate this year was a support which goes under the rear body. This is a unique part to the station wagon and original replacements completely unobtainable, I even had a chap in Australia looking for me, where there were plenty more station wagons than in the UK. Most of mine had rusted away but I had 12" left, enough to get some dimensions. I folded one up, using a bit of timber to form it around, as it was too long for the bender. I did have more photos of the process, but managed to delete them from my phone. The trick bit was forming the raised "bridges" which I did with the aid of a wooden former. Originally the whole thing would have been a pressing. The end result looked like this. This last shot after galvanising.
Fortunately my metal work will not be seen unless someone crawls around underneath the vehicle.
