That sounds like sensible talk, which isn't welcome round here...... Putting a ridiculous engine in an inappropriate car is why we come here..... just cos its crazy doesn't mean its stupid.

Cars don't have to go round corners fast. My pop is built for straight line speed but it goes round corners well enough if driven within its limits. 155 tyres on front and 15.5 inch wide on rears are limiting, lol.
So it won't corner like a porshe? So what
A V8 imp is already a winner before the engine is started.

There was a yellow sunbeam stiletto that used to run in the hrg n come to Preston cruise with a very lively 383 In it and was wicked but not much room on the interior

Having just recently got my own small car with a V8 on the road, I will attest that the torque induced acceleration is intoxicating. This thing will have it in spades.

Just Google "Joe Stevens Sunbeam Stilleto" and you'll see a V8 Imp(ish!), with either its 900bhp supercharged motor or its 1000+bhp twin turbo engine. Goes well enough, and it's a street car...

Light small & nimble and big inch V8's are both awesome. I know because I own and race both.
What I think isn't right, is disrupting the buildthread of somebody who is actually doing something with a couple of pics grabbed of the 'net to show how wrong the concept would be.
'cause, by the looks of it, that K swapped imp is not even his own build.
On the offchance that it is, he should start his own buildthread and amaze us with his car building prowess...
In the mean time, cant wait to see more of the V8 Imp build on this thread.

metalshapes How do you know I am not doing a modified imp type car with a bmw engine ? i can post a picture with custard if you want.
The only reason i posted was WHY ? Why put a v8 in a imp and why an awful 3 speed automatic in that car ? There are better options imho, plus I really hate the rover v8, most overated engine ever...... if you want power from it you have to throw everything away because they are so badly made.
just an opinion.

Just a hunch.
Because most real builders have a lot more consideration for each others builds.
But not always.
You may be the exception.
Cant wait to see you start a buildthread of your very own...

We do what we do because we have a vision that drives us.
We thankfully do not all have the same vision, or else this would be a pretty boring place to hang out.

Impman65,
Good luck with the project, great to see another Imp on here that is going in a different direction than the norm. Bookmarked.
Cheers Col.

Can’t wait to see this one as it develops. The K conversion looks brilliant, but sticking a V8 into such a small car is bonkers and such a silly idea that it has to happen. If we only carried out logical ideas that German bloke would never have stuffed an airplane engine into the back seat of his Gogomobil.

There are better engines? Yes. The Rv8 isn't a bad motor when it's in good condition. A lot of the bad rep it (and Borg-Warner's gearboxes) gets are due to crappy maintenance causing premature failure and poor performance. Hell, grind the cam lobes down on any engine and see how well it runs. Bet you your favorite bestest engine ever would run like curse word, have no torque and be lethargic at high RPM.
The Rv8 is also the old-school British rodder's choice, same as a Chevy 350 is here. There are better options but I really don't see a problem with the decisions made here. No, it won't handle like it's on rails, but scraping every last fraction of a second off isn't always on everyone's list. Might be yours and that's fine- it's a challenge to make a car handle and go fast. Looking at it, I think the dynamics of the vehicle will not be the best at high speed (100+). However, you really don't need to go crazy fast to have fun. I'll wager this car will be just fine for a bit of point-and-squirt style driving up to the legal speed limit (it is a road car). Horses for courses.
It has a bit of a look to it that suggests it's designed to make you want to drive it everywhere and put a grin on both the driver's face and those who experience the vehicle because it's simply out of the norm and a little bit bonkers. I'm willing to stand corrected, but I see nothing wrong with someone following a dream and executing it with the skills they have.

So Rover V8, and why not, its not about bhp or 130bhp bmw engines, they are getting a common swop now, its a different build altogether to "normal" so ive bought a new imp, which will be the bas e now for the build, it has everything the green shell hasnt i.e windows, door internals, so this will cut down on finding parts i now have the diff as well, now looking for a sierra prop and borg warner prop as well swap now

I’m looking forward to this starting. It’s not the way your going, but have a pic of my mates old mid engined RV8 Imp/Stiletto on a Renault transaxle for inspiration.

Sounds great to me, in such a short car and the wheel at each corner it's going to end up with most of the engine between the axles anyway, as the owner of a tr7v8 I can confirm a 3.5 rv8 in a small light car works superbly, 3 gears will be fine, I only really need 2nd to get moving and 5th once I hit 20mph theres a lot more to engines than just tbe headline power number. I have even thought about swapping to an auto(I was thinking it must be possible to build a 2wd version of the range rover ZF 4 speed). They are not even that thirsty mine usually does mid to high 20's and being a standard engine meant for something much bigger and heavier you can thrash it all day and nothing breaks.
Can't wait to see this build.
