Whoa! That's a lesson in "How to make things rust!" I am amazed that you could move it without it breaking apart.

Great work! What a tidy example!
I completely agree with what you said - "Theres something immensly satifying about driving a 40+ year old car and relying on it to take you hundreds of miles across the country without hassle."
There really is satisfaction in knowing that without our input, our cars would either have been scrapped or left for dead somewhere.
Any big trips planned for this year?

Thanks Yes I'll be attending "Festival of the unexceptional" in July.. and I'm sure I'll attend the odd show or gathering, but no holidays planned...yet

I love it! Road trip in must be awesome voyages. The number plate jangles a memory do yo think it may have been a press demonstrator? I don't think so. It had belonged to a club owner, but presumably he'd passed away as it was the son, who must have been in his late 50's who I bought the car from. It was sat in a damp garage in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire and hadn't been used much in years. The MOT history showed it doing 3 miles between tests which must have meant it was driven to get the MOT done then put back for a year and left It had obviously been looked after up to a point, but then left. Until I came along

Wonderful. These were the butt of many a joke and ridicule in my youth - but it's great to see such a lovely condition survivor and in such a great colour. The years have been kind to the design - great stuff!

What a fantastic example and great to see a 2 door too. Allegro is a car that I've come to love these days and is a one I'd love to own one day.
Keep up the great work and enjoying the car, it looks absolutely great.

Not sure if I saw it clearly but the shiney new camshaft sprocket [if it is] looks like the later BL one... No rubber tensioner rings? The original became NLS and that simple sprocket allows the chain to shimmy and chatter... Wearing out/noisy. A really 'penny pinch' rebuild would involve taking the rubber rings out and reversing them to run on the untouched outer shoulder .... as I say, can't see clearly in pic. Neat motor OVIMOR
