My neighbour picked this up last year for his wife but with a young family & house maintenance taking priority it has sat in his garage since his purchase. He knows I'm always tinkering with cars so asked me if I'd like it. Hmm mm let me think.Yep I'll take it ta. It's a very genuine car with 48000 miles & has a service sticker under the bonnet from 2002 with 42000 miles on board. It has has a few repairs around the drivers arch & fuel filler but nothing to stressful. The car comes with an arch repair panel & rear valance due to a bit of rust. I really don't know what I'm going to do with it but 1st thing is an mot some nice little wheels & work out how to lower it a smidge. If anyone has any knowledge of how to lower it please add a comment below.

Looks like my car. I used it as a daily for years and travelled whole euorope in it. Portugal, Spain, France, Bosnia, Croatia, Austria, Belgium, Serbia, Slovenia,... I should get it on the road again! Nice little wheels ist not too easy. The PCD is the strange 4x 3,75" (4x95,25mm) and choice in 13" and 14" is very limited. I like the MGF steel sparewheels with 195 45 14 tyres. To lower the car you will need a hydragas pump. In short: Release pressure, cut the rods for desired lowering and pump it up again. And remember: Every Rover K series engine will fit. 1.1, 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 l capacity use the same block and the 16V versions even share the same cylinderhead (little exception for the VVCs). Since you have a carbed engine this will need a bit more work with the electricity and fueling, but still: The engine is a straight swap.

One of the jobs that needed doing was the downpipe as the flexi was shot to pieces. Luckily my neighbour had already bought it & had chucked it in the boot. 30 mins later jobs a good 'un. Needs an 02 bung but my other neighbour reckons he can pinch me one from work (cheeky).

Had a day on the car so I whipped off all the wheels, cleaned all the inner arches, suspension components & thr brakes. I then gave the car a proper valet. At one time this car was owned by a smoker as all the dash & headlining was stained yellow. It was a nice treat to find an original spare wheel, Jack & tool kit in the boot. I plan to clean the engine bay next.

I bought one of these cheap some years ago to keep me motoring. I lowered it by letting a load of fluid out the valve on the back. It sat on its backside and drove absolutely appallingly 😂

I've looked into lowering & that's about the worst thing to do apparently! Going to source some wheels if I can find some cheap enough in 95.2 Mot this week with a bit of luck.

Mot update; Unfortunately the old girl failed on corrosion on the outriggers on the passenger side front footwell & near the seat belt mount. Hopefully have that all done over the weekend. Meantime I'm going to pull off the wheels & paint them satin black.

Refitted all the interior & gave it a full valet again. Fitted the original twin knob stereo & now I want to fit an aftermarket stereo under the dash. Gave the exterior a full T cut & polish. I want to remove the standard wheels & paint them black underseal the sills.

So other than driving it I've done very little to the m.o.d's. So as today was nice I cleaned, prepped & undersealed the sills. Nice easy job. Next weekend I'm going to pull off the wheels to paint them satin black as I have a few cans in the garage.😁

Finally had chance to rub down & paint my wheels satin black. I think it looks great. Might even white letter the tyres. The retro metro is currently up for sale but I'm really enjoying driving it at the moment. Tempted to cut out the arches & fit universal fenders & then fit spacers to push out the wheels.

I’ve always liked these and you seem to have a tidy one. Personally I’ve always had minis, but as of late these have been growing on me. I had a friend at college who had one and we put, iirc a MG ZR 160 engine in it. Was a fairly straight forward conversion of my memory serves me right.

I do enjoy driving it as much as my skyline. Do you have any info on the swap? Sounds interesting. I know of a mgf lying round locally if that's the same?

Mgf is the perfect donor as they are metro based so you can use the bigger pg1 gearbox that they came with rather the the r65 one that was fitted to the metros
