Shame it can't cheer the weather up; bloody rain on again today here 😡 I know, thought I'd wash my astra and take it to work tomoro, as soon as I got in it it started raining, looks like it's a Mondeo kind of week That's not because I'm precious over the weather btw, my sunroof leaks directly onto my head in the rain

Weather up here kills cars, rains more often than not lol
Monsoon conditions last 3 days, 2 of which have been my days off lol
Nova is insured for commuting though, which has been mostly what its been used for, and the school run
Would love to drive something retro daily and not care, but have to make do with either a 2001 tdi 130 mk4, or 98 1.8t stage 1 golf. 👎 can park them anywhere with no worries and if they are still there when i get back its a bonus lol
My mk2's mot runs out on 01/06, had it in today, passed 1st time. But like when i took the nova for a test, the golf hadnt been soaking underneath for ages til today 😡 but on the other hand, it was dailied by me when i 1st owned it and the two owners before i got it back.....

Enjoyable read!
Have been using my MK1 Nova as a daily for the last ten or more years. I think I have just spotted the first rust issue. That is only IF you squint and don't look too close at the use of filler in the lower door edge which the PO had used lol
I agree that the car still get noticed and as you say, sometimes probably laughed at, but I just rev the por little thing until the valves scream and let the child snatcher exhaust do the talking - I should grow up!

Thanks 👍 You got a thread up for yours anywhere? Wish i lived in a drier part of the country, west of scotland is the rain capital of europe lol Was just having a look at a thread by Abcarpix of photos he took back in the early 90's in Glasgow and East Kilbride and spied a D plate Cavalier Antibes. Long gone now.. The state of some of the cars is mad, i remember seeing tatty cars about but rarely seen now in the modern throwaway pcp world we live in lol Link to his thread, highlights how harsh our climate it on cars lol forum.retro-rides.org/thread/194768/car-spotting-scans-early-90s?page=1

I never have anything interesting to say about the car as it 'just works' so I think a thread would be a bit sparce Although me & the boss have been discussing what we want to do with the car. The boss wants power steering and I want a screaming 1.2 with BIG carbs I guess if the boss wants to take her back on I will be spannering loads to replace all the floppy rubber bits and try to convince her there is nothing I can do to fix the woeful brakes

I just read from the start to the most recent post, really good read and great to see the progress on such a tidy car.
I was trying to think of the last time I saw a Nova out on the road and I am coming up blank. I am guessing we are around the same sort of age - I passed my driving test in 2003 and around that time Novas were everywhere, I remember a lad I went to college with had one but proper Barry boy spec, huge wheels, ridiculous aftermarket bumpers held on with wood screws and drain pipe twin exhausts on an otherwise completely stock 1.2 haha.
Great cars though and particularly good work on that interior, looks like new now!

Spot your nova looks very clean there! Loving the GTE front seats Have you had to do much work on it over the 10 years? You can fit the SR and manifold set up I think to up your BHP a bit without shouting about it. Thanks Flynn, it still needs a bit more cleaning inside to get it spotless, then in the engine bay. Timing belt, water pump and Clutch to be replaced in the coming months as time and weather allows.. Given that summer has disappeared up here for the few weeks I haven't been able to get out to it or use it as much as I want to. But there is still some hope for better months ahead......

Thanks Ricky. Just found my receipt and it seems the car came to me 13 years ago this month! Only jobs I have done is to replace the shabby blue GTE interior for a red set, changed a headlight, a waterpump and a fan belt and two tyres. Also swapped out the front disks/pads/flexi, never ever touched the rears! - so not much and can bet that everyones happy that thread didn't start MOT due soon so I'll have a think about 'upgrades' after that.... I'm sure once the sun returns you can enjoy to the fun side of motoring again with your Nova

Nah, don't be daft spot, i'm sure there would be plenty interest in another 80s survivor Nova 👍 Not had the Nova out for a couple of weeks, but with no rain on the way hopefully, I took it to work for my night shift. Sunday morning so no rush hour on the M8 to contend with too! Om a side note I am very impressed with the headlights, they make the lights on my mk2 golf look like candles! Probably brighter than the mk4's too!

Being a long time lurker, and reading more and more of the readers ride threads now I can access this site in work, I thought I should put a thread up for one of my cars, a 1986 Vauxhall Nova 1.2 Antibes. I have a thread for it on the PNG forum, but this is definitely not a performance nova! Will bring progress up to date over a few posts to here Always loved Novas since my mum had a Steel Grey 1.2 Antibes when I was a child, and when this popped up on ebay back in October 2017 I had to have it. Plan was to get it back on the road as nature (Vauxhall) intended, it hadn't been on the queens highway for 9 years and lived on a farm near Wrexham in Wales. The wee car is pretty solid, especially seeing as it is a 33 year old nova and compared to the rotten Gsi I had back in 2002 it is a marvel it is in such decent nick. When it arrived on a truck from Wales it was evident the brakes were seized solid so that was my first job. Got a pair of oem Delco calipers for £40 inc delivery, and with Pagid discs and pads on a eurocarparts discount code it was back rolling for a few quid I now have a Steel Grey Antibes, when I’ve figured out how I’ll add some pictures.

Have you joined the Nova owners group on Facebook? A wealth of knowledge and parts. Nice, is it road ready? Definitely get a thread up if you can. Not on Facebook, but do pop onto the PNG forum from time to time. Had the Nova at my mates work yesterday, got timing, mixture and idle set up. Not had much use of it lately, weather been pretty dire up here and usually worse on my days off! .

Still interesting spotting the tiny differences to our old one. The Vauxhall logos on our wheeltrims were red rather than black/grey.
There was a red stripe along the bumpers and rubbing strips too, though I remember those peeling off ours and needing replacement at some point so they may well have left the premeses at some point in the past on yours.

I don't think the trims are original to the car, there is a pic of it when for sale in 2010 wearing what looks like Astra trims Trims on my mums Grey Antibes had red Vauxhall badges www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C139688

They never seem to know quite what to make of the Lada around here...though I keep forgetting that the last mainstream imported one arrived 21 years ago so that's probably not all that surprising!
