Landy welding is a bit more rustic, but it's got to be better than not doing any practice before tackling the rust box. (I don't know what you mean). The cam in the V8 is a Typhoon with adjustable cam gear, so it should be timed in properly. I spent a bit of time cleaning and sorting the plug leads and timing the dizzy in (also off the G27).Then trying to remember how the water hoses all went. Fit new plugs and fan belt when they arrived and then rigged up facet to empty old fuel out of tank. It seemed empty. So in theory, all it needs is new fuel and oil, prior to a rocker gasket and it should be ready to go. 20 minutes at 2000rpm sounds horrendous to run in the cam, so not a job for a Sunday morning. Fingers crossed, the engine should stay intact and then a case of sorting some fibre glassing and better sized tyres for the Starmags (they are so cool). An exciting prospect that it may soon be growling again. Then on to the mini, and any on going Landy issues.

I know. The S1 did look pretty cool after all the suspension mods. SUs not quite a impressive as the Holley, but it was a good, fun and great sounding car. I never did check to see if it sold in IOW.

Spent the day over at sean1965 place getting the V8 up and running - First job was to fit the O/S valve cover which required tapping the threaded bosses to clean up the threads due to some past misuse. With that done and the cover on it was in with the oil and water. A few lose hose clips settled the leaks and drips and it was ready to go. Took a bit longer than we thought to get the car running due to some fun with starter motors, dead batteries and getting the V8 to prime - getting a prime on the pump is always fun with Rover V8s that have been standing, even with the pump packed with Vaseline - failed - Eventually we managed to get oil flowing by using a large volume syringe in the oil pressure gauge connection to draw oil up into the pump. Once the prime issue was overcome the engine fired up very quickly and the idle was set for 2000/2500 and away she went - It's pretty loud - The car runs separate system per bank each just ending in straight through silencer - Old picture from when I built it. - but what a noise, stupid grins all round. We turned down the fan temp sensor to get the fan at a low temperature so running all the time and let it run. An intermittent ticking became permanent and a bright 3/4" long spark was tracking from the king lead post on the coil to the -ve. The insulation had clearly broken down. Quick change of coil to an Aldon Flame thrower I had on my G27 parts shelf and away we went again sounding even stronger. Tweaked the timing a little and the engine tone changed yet again upping the sound pressure. Once the cam run in was out of the way - garage nice and warm by this time - the idle was dropped and the grins went from ear to ear as that cammed V8 idle rumble settled down to that sound that any petrol head could just listen to all day long. Whilst the rumble was shaking the fabric of the floor the engine was just rock steady in the chassis not a movement. A few more little jobs to do for the spring return to the road.

Over at the Cemetery workshops today checking in on my G27 and to assist with hydraulic lifter pre-load setting on the warm 3.9 in the B-type. First off I had a look over the rot box mini project - Oh my! - l That's going to absorb some welding hours Ek. Cover sills. There'll be some impressive brown cornflakes and a world of hurt under those I reckon!!

Ek. Cover sills. There'll be some impressive brown cornflakes and a world of hurt under those I reckon!! It's an old thin tin Mini that has had all of the usual "just get it through another year" MOT repairs carried out on it. It's really only hurt if you are missing the necessary knowledge, tools and skills to approach the task with. As we know what we will be undertaking and the repairs are nothing particularly ground breaking - Yes I am going to see just how many Cemetery related references I can use. The most challenging aspect will be time.

More work carried out last weekend on the B - No mini work as of yet as that V8 soundtrack has become a bit of an addiction - Who would have known - We even rolled it out of the garage and drove it up and down the drive - It's a bit of a beast - blipping the throttle results in foot long flames out of the exhaust !! and I will admit I was a little bit naughty leaving an 11 on the drive when I gave the throttle a longer blip whilst in second. Not properly run in yet so I resisted the temptation for a full burnout!
No photo's - just too busy producing excessive amounts of Carbon Monoxide and grinning like kids - and I always thought giggle gas was Nitrous Oxide - appears that they both have similar effects.

Managed to get the short video of the static over-run pooping back in the exhaust loaded - It should be fun on the road as with the same dizzy and carb set up the G27 used to pop and bang with a decent light and sound show that could be viewed from the side mirrors.
Through the headphones the mic on the phone has pretty accurately picked up the tone.
Next we will have to get a full chat drive-by sorted as there are points in the video at slightly higher RPM where there is a tone that sounds like it may deliver something to make the hairs stand.

After the brackets on the G27 are done, so progress is continuing on both.

Three coats of red oxide and the same to come in black gloss and the subframes are looking better. I reckon some waxoyl to fill the box sections of the rear and then hopefully, that should keep the tin worm at bay for a while. Although having said that, there doesn't seem to be any definitive cure. Galvanising perhaps. People have done it in many ways, so we shall just have to wait and see. Most of the rest of the necessary subframe components are on the way. Refurb kit for upper arms, hi los and the bush kit for the rear. Just pondering the best choice of adjustable lower arms to buy as there seems two, in addition to the fixed 1.5 negative camber ones. No sign of the panels..yet.

Fixed a bit ! Why? - I just do not get why people torture themselves with repairing rusty bits of tin when there are superb cars made from Glassfibre out there with minimum chassis steel thickness of 1.2mm and more likely 1.5/1.6 - lovely. Butt welding steel that was originally 0.9mm and when cleaned off probably ends up at 0.8 or less with welding wire at 0.6 - why? Its just bloody horrible - Made worse as I did not have my welding mask with me - would have almost been better of with. Still - its progress. Flap wheeled off a small section and it should be a near invisible repair - flashed some etch primer on it and next time I am not going near it without all of my welding gear in attendance. 1% done
