I thought there was a thread in this but I can’t find it.
I’m trying to sort of use instagram for photo hosting, and crosspost some of my stuff from there. Other people seems to be able to make it work, but when I do the ‘copy link’ thing it gives me a URL a million miles long rather than the ‘short’ one everyone else seems to use. Am I missing something obvious?
I think when I do it it just posts a link rather than embeds?

I just grab the share URL from Instagram app and then paste in the post, the forum software handles the embed, like it does with YouTube URLs.

Doesn’t seem to work for me for some reason. I’m in the app, I click on the dots toonright of a post, I click ‘copy link’, I past intonhere, butnit comes up as a clickable link rather. Than an embed? Strangely for me it shows as a link on a pc but it shows the photo when in tapatalk app. Here’s a screenshot...  |

I keep setting it to public, it keeps changing back to private. Although I’ve reset it to public and it doesnt seem to have made any difference. |

I personally don't bother reading stuff that's 1:1 copied over from Instagram, I think it's a very annoying format.

I personally don't bother reading stuff that's 1:1 copied over from Instagram, I think it's a very annoying format. I'd quite like the embed to be done differently, so it was closer to how Flickr works, where you get the picture and can click for more info if you want (it is how the web should work in general). However I think the Instagram embed code for the forum comes direct from IG so I can see why it is the way it is. |

Yes, that would be nice. It's easy to modify the Flickr image code and just use that, this way you only post an image to the forum without any links or other unnecessary rubbish. Would something similar be possible with Instagram code? It's a bit more work than just copying a string of code and posting it, but it keeps the forum much easier and nicer to read. EDIT: I just looked at the code in Dez 's post, and I see no easy way to fix it. Bet there's smarter people than me when it comes to coding though! (I'm completing a PhD in Computer Science, but I still can't program a single line...) Clean Flickr photo: |

Sadly I don't have control over the embed code, otherwise the Youtube videos would also be larger :/ |
