I would't worry about the gearbox too much a tiny amount of ep oil makes a right mess just keep an eye on the oil level.
The axle is the priority because it affects the brakes, buy a bearing from a reputable source (Burton power do one for around £20) and perhaps try to find a classic car specialist to fit it.

I did see the Burton Firstline ones. I cant remember what its got on there right now, I thought it was SKF, maybe its the same firstline ones. I was told to look for NOS bearings due to the seals being much better. Like you say though it needs sorting soon.

Nos is probably not a good idea with rubber parts (the seals in the bearing), they could easily be 40 years old, imagine what a 40 year old tyre would be like!

Good thinking ! I might just buy one and get someone to fit it. I miss having a drive, would love to get the half shaft out and save a few quid leaving it with a garage.

My Atlas axle had the same problem - I went through 3 bearings on one side trying to cure it! Even thought it must be leaking around the bearing race so tried sealing that in too. Several places selling axle spares said that the only bearings they could currently get hold of (this was 2 years ago) they wouldn't want to sell.
Seeing as I wanted to change the diff ratio, I ended up taking it to a local guy who from the looks of him should have retired long ago, but several of the local garages still use him for axle repairs. He had some quality ones in stock, and sure enough it's never leaked since.
Sorry, this doesn't really help you but I really would be inclined to get someone to supply and fit - that way if it still leaks you at least have comeback.

Sometimes, others may not understand why you like a car so much. Sometimes, you may not even understand why you like a car so much. But none of that matters; all that matters is that you like the car, and having it makes you happy.

I had this conversation today funny enough with GS Escorts. I mentioned that most people don't think the new bearings are good. He said Borg & Beck are ok but to find some SKF ones. I get the feeling this already has these on. I need to try and find the receipt. Either way I need to do something soon as its just sitting there not being driven.

I havent updated this in a while. I had the axle seal fixed, decided not to do it myself. Added some badges to the Car and since then I've been quite busy with work so its not had tons of use except for the odd trip into town etc. I did just take it out before and noticed on light braking that the Car pulled severely into the middle of the road but, if you really stand on the brakes it brakes in a straight line. It didnt do this every time but enough that it was an interesting drive. I'm guessing its a rear brake thing? What do we thing? Heres a few more recent photos... Fitting Ford Badges Tatton Park, Car Show - Car Park.

Ok so I decided to pick one of the hottest days of the year to sit in corduroy seats and take the dash apart to fix my drivers door speaker. The new Alpine speakers only worked on on side and the speaker wire kept snapping at the door end when I tried to trim it back. I hate doing this job as it brings memories back of it setting on fire (pretty sure was dodgy stereo wiring) 4 years ago. Nice to see though all my re wiring was holding up bar one side of the drivers door connectors. It must have come free when I was tugging the other end last year. Some new Halfords speaker cable longer than the original sorted this out and it was back together in no time. I tested it with The Smiths - 'How Soon Is now' to make sure I was getting full stereo and then OMD - Souvenir beacuse why not. The bass response of these speakers is a million times better than the original ones. Not quite as good as the ones in my Escort but I'm over the moon. Took the Car to its pre MOT/Saftey check yesterday. They said it was fine and the only thing is some slight play in the steering rack. Really annoying as this was replaced by me not that long ago (in miles) so guessing I need to find a NOS steering rack rather than a reconditioned one.

I had that problem on my Elan all the recon triumph racks (it uses a spitfire rack) seemed to either have play or be notchy where they had just been shimmed up to remove the play, problem is to do the job properly with a new rack and pinion is probably £500, I was lucky enough to find a secondhand one off a Channel islands Elan, looked terrible so cheap on ebay, but was like new inside.
If you can live with the play I would just see how it goes it may well not deteriorate any further.

Got back from a trip to Devon (not in the Capri) for work and decided to hop in the Capri as I wanted to give my Girlfriend her car back and i'd made the error of saying i'd be at a studio in Manchester the same day as leaving a hotel 5 miles away. As I had a quick coffee a monsoon seemed to open up which meant quickly throwing all the stuff from one car into the other... Its not quite as practical as the Escort mk3 but pretty good!! I did notice with all the seats down some clunking in 1st and 2nd gear... maybe the atempted donuts i did the other day didnt help that but it could have also been the breaker bar that had fallen inbetween the rear seats time will tell. Annoyingly though I noticed this had happened when I was getting in the car to come home. I think it has happened outside the house as its looking a bit rusty inside the dent which suggests its been like this a few days in the wet. It really curse word me off to be honest. This happened as soon as i bought it but not on this level, must be something about the hight of this car. It also looks like it could have been something high up like a transit flat bed or delivery van, its not touched the bumper. Looks like i'll get the filler out this weekend before capesthorn hall I guess.

Bit of an unexpected purchase today. Noticed a cheap Capri bootlid near by, deal was done and its not living in the boot of my Car. The idea here is unlike mine its not rotten around the window. Mine lets water in even though Ive tried sealer several times. I thought I could spray it white/black like mine and transfer the spoiler etc for winter and it would be cheaper than having mine repaired. There is a bit of rust inside of the lid. Hoping I can cut this out and me and my mate can fabricate something. If not I'll have to figure something out. Nothing will happen for a week or so but excited to start on this.

Just posted a new video comparing the Capri to the Spitfire 1500, some body work, picking up a new boot lid and messing with spring compressors.

Right i'm back off holiday now and remembered that I still have a Capri boot lid still in my Car. One thing I noticed and now cant decide if it bothers me is the difference in old and new window seals. The new one being of an 85' is the newer bonded window seal. the original white one is a non bonded one. This isnt a problem at the moment but I'm not sure if this is something that is going to bug me later down the line If I get rid of the original boot lid. What do we think? I guess I could put the new boot lid on for the time being to stop water entering the boot and try to fix the white one but, is that just mad. Also I'll have a multi coloured Capri Or take the window out and keep it along with the rubber... not sure if i'm loosing it a bit though. What you think?

I'd paint it the right colours then decide how much it bugs me, I think if you paint around it black to match the vinyl roof it won't be so noticible.

I don't think it would bother me, It's not a huge difference. I'd also paint it and put it on...
