Over the last few days I tried using the Colour tune on the Capri (using plug 2) and wasnt really getting much in the way of "Bunson Blue" as the manual said. I wound the mixture screw in and back out 3 turns (pings a lot at 2 ish at low revs) and went for a decent drive of about 35 mins which I havent wanted to do as its been leaking oil a bit and some water from possibly the water pump area. Either way... had a great time driving around listening to songs. Took it up to 70mph for the first time and it handled well, felt a bit spongey at the back end compared to my Escort but, I was pretty happy with it non the less. Returned hope with no dramas so I'm just going to use it now but I must remember to do the diff cover... I knew there was something I'd forgotten. One thing that dawned on me last night... after looking up the plate on the Carb base, It says DGVA 10E which links it to an early 80s Granada, with the engine block saying 1983 I guess this whole unit must be from a Granny. Only reason I mention it is the Accelerator cable is still binding slightly. Its up at 900rpm at idle but if you hook your foot under the pedal, it drops to about 400rpm. When you change gear you can hear the revs are not dropping a lot. Obviously this wont help with tuning so... I need to modify this manifold plate or find a Granada cable maybe, theres only a few MM in it but i know it will wear though this cable soon like the last. If anyone has a part number for an 1983 Granny 2.0 Accelerator cable let me know. I stuck a GoPro in the car when I went out so... if your interested check it out... hope you like the tunes

Yeah cant go wrong with a bit of Def Leppard. I was talking to my Girlfriend about them and we can't decide if fans shorten their name to Def or Leppard? I say that because the first Capri I drove 13 years ago, we had Led Zeppelin on in the Car... when I asked who it was (knowing full well but trying to make conversation ) I got... "Zeppelin" . Anyway... back to Cars. I'm not sure what the deal is with the Throttle Cable yet. I called Tickover a few weeks back when fitting this one, they said they make one that is easier to fit so, i'll definitely get one of those before using it too much. I'll probably try and make the holes bigger and slide the mount further along the manifold. Might have to take it off and send it to my Dad though as I havnt got a Pillar drill or anything with enough waft here to do this. Like you say there can't be much in it between a Granada and also the problem seems to be between the mount and the Carb linkage. This cable is the same Firstline one that Burton Sell and the one that snapped before was this tight. Maybe I can bend the linkage back towards the bottom of the picture a bit but If you put the plastic linkage bung in it send the car up to about 2000 rpm Cheers guys! I'm loving it to be honest! The list is diminishing now and I'm going to try and get it into proper daily use in the next two weeks in prep for possibly going to Retro Rides in it. If we go in this my misses may possibly go in her car as backup, her words not mine haha! I'll just have to find some retro CB Radios then... The new list is: - Alternator (new or local rebuild) - Do the diff cover and rear anti roll bar bushes - figure out the water and oil leak (I think its the rocker cover again, the water leak is coming from the water pump or top of the bottom hose) - Maybe the tank straps (they look old and I don't want to die in a ball of fire) stance wise, I think if you look at the old photos with the seize front shocks and sagging rear it looks pretty shocking from the side. Heres a mash up of all 3 looks... A couple of other photos from yesterday. Heres my oil leak by the way. I think its the Rocker Cover again but it had me thinking it could be the Head Gasket.

Great pictures
As for the oil leak I would say possibly the rocker cover but seeing the manifold and everything above the head/block seam/joint is dry it's more likely not.
What I would do and I would recommend you do if possible is take off the rocker cover and with a torque wrench set at the correct amount check each of the head bolts in the the pattern shown in the Haynes manual and then after that clean down the block and check regularly for oil if it happens again then you should look at changing the head gasket.
But it may just need a re torque to stop it.

I was worried about that although I know itās not the worst job on these. These pics were from a few days back , yesterday on a big run it wasnāt half as bad. I havenāt got a torque wrench thatās big or accurate enough at the moment... not sure if I should let my normal garage look at it and do it (they did mention that). Maybe itās worth getting them to re seal it etc rather than doing it myself.... canāt decide yet. If Iām going to buy a wrench I might get a different wide lip gasket and rubber gasket .

That oil leak doesn't look too bad in fairness Nothing compared to mine that smothered the alternator anyway As said by peteh1969 re torque the head bolts, clean up the block thoroughly and see where it leaks from then

Back in the day a head gasket on a pinto would usually take me one hour it won't be a cheap job if you pay a garage to do it a torque wrench would cost you Ā£30 from eBay to do it your self as you say not a hard job.

It looks like parts of the linkage between cable and carb are bent, especially the U-shaped piece that fastens to the end of the actual throttle spindle in the carb. The rod with the 90Ā° bend in it is supposed to be able to articulate in the slot in that piece, which would allow you to put the plastic bush back in the bracket on the manifold.

Pete I had a look at my 3/8 torque wrench last night and it goes to 110nm which I think is 80lfp . It was Ā£25 and Iām not sure on its calibration, if I can check it Iāll try this . I just thought I could probably pay the garage and hours labour to tighten the head bolts and re seal the rocker cover. Probably should have a go myself if this wrench will do it... get the feeling itās just a bit small or I need to find a friend with bigger arms lol

It's not that hard to check the calibration of your torque wrench - there are a few videos on YouTube and it's a fairly easy process - of course, it won't be aerospace grade but, good enough for what you need.

Funny enough I just watched a few on my break. I think if I can find my travel scales and something of accurate weight Iām all set. Also just seen thereās a few cheap Clark 1/2ā ones for around Ā£30 too from machine mart. Although Iād probably want to check that too as itās a cheap one.

I once had the same oil leak on a pinto which had been sitting for a while and it sealed itself after a while, you might get lucky!

So yesterday I took the throttle linkage apart before I went for a drive in the Capri. I tried to bend the L shape slightly to push the Carb connection down, It seemed to work quite well at first but after driving for a while I realised it was still sticking slightly. It must be something to do with the cable or the cable linkage as the Carb just snaps back without anything connected to it... I think its the cable to be honest. I'll be ordering a new one after trying a few more tests. After I refitted it I went for a decent drive again. about an hour which was nice as I've never really driven it this long. I would have gone further but with the throttle cable feeling tight/ crunchy I didnt want to get too far away haha. Also the brakes are feeling a bit iffy again. Annoyinlly the Disks for the 3.0 hubs are quite expensive, i'll see if I can get them machined but I think its probably going to be new disk time. IF anyone has any second hand ones i'm all ears, so annoying someone must have swapped the struts at some point for the more desirable 2.0 legs. Also it seemed the oil leak has chilled out a bit. I havent done anything other than got it warm a few times (never goes over half with the alu radiator) Hoping it keeps this up. This is after my decent drive Sunday.

Just thought i'd ask what this noise is. I thought was pre detention/pinging but I let a garage friend drive it (for another reason) and when I mentioned that he didnt know what it was either but said its not pinging. It only happens on light Acceleration and not all the time (but a lot of the time ). If you floor it, it seems to go away which is why its annoying around town as every gear it mostly does it... then it wont do it for a while. I tried topping up the gearbox oil and I cant really remember if it did anything if i'm honest. I have a couple of ideas of what it could be but, what do you think it is? Its quite loud in person, the camera doesnt pick it up that well. Heres a mashup from one drive recently.

Cheers mate really pleased with it. Just need to get a few more things sorted but Iām pretty happy to get out and use it now. Would Like to go on some longer trips with it. Just want to sort out this noise, maybe go back to manual fuel pump and seal up any grommets properly in the bulkhead.
