All different kinds of lifts have their own limitations but they all make life easier... I wouldn't be without mine... £1200 brand new...bargain.. I prefer the flexibility of a 2 post whether working on my cars or storing them I'm in the process of building a garage/ workshop at the mo. I'm building it under permitted development so have a max roof height of 4meters. How tall is your garage? As I'm hoping to put a 2 poster ramp in so hopefully with scissor trusses as you have i should get enough height.

I built mine under permitted development as well. I designed it specifically to fit this Automotec 2 post lift. These are the internal dims... In order to get the eaves height and total height to comply with PM and to stop the building towering over the garden I dug the garage down into the garden so from the back and side it looks like this... from the front... I vaulted the roof to give the extra head height internally...

Wish I had the head height to have a proper hoist at home, but with the master bedroom above the garage, I suspect I wont be allowed to raise the ceiling. Love my Quickjacks, but nothing on a proper 2/4 poster. The only thing i don't like about the scissor jacks is the lack of access to the center of the car. Makes it harder to do work on the exhaust/driveline on a RWD/AWD car. We have a midrise lift at work that has two large ramps you drive over, and then use blocks on the ramps to the chassis/sills. Were the trusses pre made or custom built on site? I went for the full height 2 poster Andy... I think the posts are approx 2800mm high. I'm 6ft and it gives me plenty of room to walk and work under the car when it's on the lift or to store another car under it... I made the trusses..... all out of C24 structural grade tanalised timber.... 6"x 2" for the rafters and 4" x 2" for the cross binder. The top of the rafters were plated with 3/4 ply glued with polyurethane glue then screwed with 2" screws and bolted with M12 bolts and the binder was glued with PU glue to the rafters and then bolts through with M12 bolts. It's as solid as press plated pre formed trusses. You can see in this photo how they sit on the wallplates... the 2x2 binder was only temporary to reduce the weight whilst lifting them into place... it was swapped for the 6x2 binder before the roof was loaded with tiles. Ok, thank you for all the info, you have been very helpful. I too have dug my base into a slope so i can take advantage of the 2.4m from "the highest part of the surrounding ground" clause. I will stop hijacking this thread now and ask any further questions on your build thread. Fantastic build btw, you should be really proud of it especially as you did all the work your self. What a fantastic achievement.

I contacted Cartar’s Uk reseller recently to try to get a price on a Glide Master, like Grumpy has. No response. I’m not a business (which is probably the reason) but would describe myself as a ‘serious’ DIYer who doesn’t mind spending decent money on decent tools. So, can anyone give me any pointers on where I may be able to buy one without being a trader, and an idea of cost?

So, can anyone give me any pointers on where I may be able to buy one without being a trader, and an idea of cost? They are £4k + vat retail - I paid £2600 + vat for mine (£3120 inc) contact details below for LKQ whom the supplied mine and the rep that I deal with - speak to Lil and tell her that you have spoken to me - Chris @ Flat Cap Classic Cars - Tell her that your budget is very, very tight and it needs to be the same money that I paid for mine in Feb (if that suits your budget) - of course you can purchase a standard mid height scissor lift for sub £1500 but it has nowhere near the flexibility that the Gluidemaster offers lilmccall@lkqcoatings.com
