I see loads of these around Bristol, old cars are everywhere here. Estates are driven by liberal looking families mainly, saloons by just about anyone.. I remember my boss having an estate in 2005 and it was quite a posh motor. Dark metallic green really set it off. Mk4 Golfs are lasting well here too, see several every day, often extremely well kept.

We had a b5 1.8t wagon in sport trim, went well, had electric everything, never let us down and we had driven it everywhere, cost us 500quid, sold it for 750quid
Only sold as misses got a work vehicle and didnt have room for it.
Would reccomend, oh and doing the cambelt is easy. Once the front clip is swung out of the way, you can just sit on a stool and work with all the space in the world

I’ve seen a 1.9 diesel auto I fancy as its a colour I’ve always wanted. Do diesels and auto boxes mix well?  |

Just to say my brother in law's boss has a mk4 golf se tdi in green. He just potters about in it - and he looks after it too. Think it would be available if anyone was interested. The car is based in Pembrokeshire.

Always thought a Golf estate with the V5 engine would be a nice cruiser but they are like hens teeth. V5 engine is a lovely engine, prefer it to the 1.8t despite less power (I went from a Toledo V5 to an Octavia RS mk1 and the V5 was miles better specced)

I was looking for a b5.5 estate last year but gave up as I was being too specific. I wanted an Inky blue sport estate tdi with chrome bumper inserts but couldn't find one anywhere! Ruled out a b6 Passat quickly and ended up with a Skoda Octavia vrs!

Exported to Bulgaria and Romania, diesel scrappage schemes, ULEZ, diesel injectors and just natural attrition for their age I guess.

I had a 53 plate b5.5 estate, 130 SE. Was a decent enough car, but it broke something every week and it went through drop links like Charlie Sheen went through women. I had loads of plans for it, coilovers and on its ar$e with the 18 inch AMG monoblocks I had, but after 3 months I got so pee'd off with it I did nothing but keep fixing it. I'm sure they're not all like that, I just got a bad one.  |
