Hello everyone! Hope your day is going well.
I thought I'd share this nifty little project.
My 72 year old buddy saw a video on you tube and said "Hey- can we do that to my sled?"
These guys put the front wheels from a quad on a snowmobile and it looked like hilarious fun.
His sled is very fast for it's age. A twin cylinder 670cc with performance modifications. I rode it several years ago and it's wicked fast. Nobody really uses it anymore, so I said- let's get it running again and then we will put the wheels on it. Sure, Why not!
So I called a friend that had some old quad parts and we set off to pull this machine out into the daylight. It's been inside this little shed for 3-4 years.

The thing wouldn't run at first. Carbs were plugged with old fuel & debris. I got it to run, but it's not pumping fuel. We ordered a new fuel pump and I'll soon be back over to finish the wheel install. I have the hubs and the parts that adapt it to the sled here at my home shop, where I will finish them up, and then we can bolt them on! Should be silly fun.

It has since turned into a snow covered ICECUBE everywhere outside. Since I was waiting on parts to keep the sled running- I took one of the skis and the front Quad hubs back home to figure out how I'd attach the wheel hubs to the skis. After a little bit of thought, I had a plan. Chop this off, grind that flat. Weld this on there, weld that on there. Drill holes. Spray paint on it for fun. That's it, they're done! It's going to be a week or so before I can get out to the snowmobile to try them out- And if it works, I can bolt them on, have a bit of fun and then remove the wheels when I'm done. The skis will bolt right back in position.

Haha! I'm not going to go fast on it. I have to test these things. I'll Beat on them for a few hours to examine for cracks, bending, etc. If they last for a while, maybe it'll encourage me to do some wheelies.

Tomorrow is test day on the sled. We got so much snow that I'll probably have the skis on it most of the time, but I gotta know, "Is it going to work?"

AH! I have not updated this because the nice weather turned into sub zero freezing, and then dumped two actual feet of snow. It has only recently turned warm enough to melt all that snow and rain like this is London. It's been soggy & muddy for days. It's about to change and at least freeze enough to give this thing a test. You guys will be the first to know how it went!
The sled is also located an hour and a half drive, so everything has to be all lined up properly to make the drive and the test. I will get there, I'm excited to try it!

OK--- I PUT THE WHEELS ON THE SLED!!! So, I finally went back out to the property and finished the carbs, installed a new fuel pump and mounted the wheels. It fired up and sounded as mean as ever. Better in fact. I pointed it outside and set the camera rolling. Here are a few pics. My old buddy Gene parked his smelly hound on the thing for a pic. The dog didn't mind too much. We both rode it. Gene and I- not the dog and I. hahaha Did the wheels break off? No. Does it stand straight up and do a wheelie with little effort? YES. It's CRAZY GOOD. I am editing the video tomorrow. Once I was no longer afraid of it, I took it down into a deep ravine to and I quote" Let's see if it'll get out of that valley and up this hill". It's like a sled that is easy to steer with a very plush ride and has traction & horsepower galore.

Some of my friends say that they won't ride it! I told them it's just like a snowmobile that is easier to turn. I feel like I can get a super long wheelie on it, once I figure out where the clutches engage and how firmly they grab the belt at the exact moment the 2 stroke comes on the pipes. It's a bit of "feel" for the lift of the front wheels on a sled. I just need a few more hours to play with it and I can really wring this thing out.

You flamin' lunatic! That's brilliant. I need one. Mind you my lawn isn't as big as yours. I'd just about get it started before crashing into the pond.
