I did make a thing. Dunno if it'll work... Well, that was unexpectedly difficult to post My first ever GIF . Not exactly world-beating, but I took so many photos of that daft Fiat it seemed rude not to I like that fact that once its managed to fire enough cylinders, it can emit the small gloved hand from under the bonnet. A giant, terrifying, maniacal mechanical pointing machine.

Actually the gloved hand belonged to one of Goodwood's often too enthusiastic marshals. But since on this occasion he was shooing away some random salmon-trousered Tarquin who thought The Rules did not apply to him because he could name eighteen generations of his ancestors and thus he was entitled to stand in front of everyone else taking photos on his tablet (which is guaranteed to make anyone look an utter cock at the best of times) said overenthusiastic marshal was our unsung hero Anyway, turns out "stand behind the wall, please" means "you too, Gerald" And when you say "enough" cylinders, it's only got four. Twenty-eight litres but just four cylinders

That thing must be a spectacle to witness. I'm admittedly a bit envious.

If it's the interaction and discussion on the thread that you're looking to stimulate, have you considered a slightly different approach to the threads?
Web life is moving considerably away from the way previous social engagement worked. Thread titles need careful thought, and it's more about view counts and likes rather than post engagement.
I always see a thread with a load of pics from a show as being a visual display for those of us who didn't get there to get a sense of the wares, this very rarely elicits a post from me as it's a view and enjoy rather than discussion. I doubt I'm alone. Itd be like someone turning up to a pub meetup with a big photo album, my own experience has been when you do this people spend ages looking through the album and conversing little.
What about taking only a few of the key detail shots that you enjoy and post up a discussion thread about the key features you find of interest. As its intent is clearly discussion it may stimulate the engagement, posts, and tangential conversations that would be the equivalent of a pub discussion.
If you do try it, the traditional large photo reports will still be appreciated if done in parallel.

I don't blame the horseshoe Marina. Its simply emblematic of how far I'm out of sync with whats expected of this forum. I love a Marina. Mine was one of the favourite cars I've ever owned. But ...and I apologise for the negativity... that one's just curse word and represents an absolute nadir of taste, style and beauty in human history. Whether that makes it a valid historical document is inarguable. But thats the point: 300 photos from the Festival of Speed are also a valid historical document. One keeps a fire lit under the forum for weeks. One goes almost completely ignored. Hence, clearly and QED it's me who's in the wrong place The persistent negativity and Eeyore-ness is making this thread unbearable any way. People like what they like and comment on what they want to comment on so don't whinge that people don't gush over your photos but they do over something that you don't like. Maybe you need a break from the internet as much as you do from broken cars that are stressing you out.

That thing must be a spectacle to witness. I'm admittedly a bit envious. I watched it roar up the hill a few years back. I think it might have been its first appearance at Goodwood. It is really impressive. It's a very strange shape and it spits fire and makes a lot of noise. It's not a patch on the Napier Railton though, which is a truly awesome thing to see and hear (and feel) roaring off.

One keeps a fire lit under the forum for weeks. One goes almost completely ignored. Hence, clearly and QED it's me who's in the wrong place Honestly L7, I cant even see how you could be making that comparison and feeling miffed about it. The Marina thing is a few images. Easy to comment on and have a strong opinion about. It's a tiny freeze frame moment in a story that none of us know. A story with an unknown past, and an unknown future, and a car that has survived in hibernation from another era. That's intriguing. Opinions are divided. Speculation is rife. 300 photographs of a prestigious car event featuring exotic and desirable cars... a visual orgy. Almost too much for people to be able to hone in on a story or an opinion. An overwhelming display of great photographs. It is not presenting any encouragement whatsoever to enter into debate or discussion. Its saying "enjoy these", and people are. They're enjoying them. If you wanted greater interaction then really there's no avoiding the fact that you would definitely need to re-think how you post them. Drip feeding a few at a time and giving people a chance to comment on the few, post by post, rather that responding to thousands of stimulus points all delivered in one avalanche of images and words. I think you've lost the plot a bit if you start to express bitterness about a so-called curse-word Marina appearing to get more attention than your pictures. That's like Jamie Oliver moaning that more people tweet about McDonalds more frequently than they buy his cookery books. I know this is not about the Marina, but the more you try and articulate your frustration, the more it starts to sound a bit butthurt. If you've decided not to post photo reports anymore that's a huge shame and they'll be missed, but just do it. Explaining it and providing examples to illustrate your frustrations feels like it's slipping into self pity. You should just make that decision for your own reasons and move on from it. It is really sad that you feel this way, but it becomes a point from which you can not easily reverse back from if you make a big thing of it. Who knows... in a few month's time you might feel like posting some pics and a report of a show again. Better to leave that door unlocked.

Yep, you're right. I've lost the plot and I'll take my misery elsewhere My last word here, for the hard of thinking in the audience, is to point out that my first post on this subject was to say "what I'm doing clearly isn't working and I'm going to stop doing it" and I was fine with that. This was followed by several posts arguing or discussing what I said. To which I replied because people seemed to want to know more. Now it's suddenly exemplary of my descent into bitter internalised madness, resenting everyone who's still enjoying the internet and wanting to turn the entire world into twisted grumps like me? Oooooo-kay. I'm sure I remember saying quite early on in this "it's me, not the forum and I'm clearly out of line with what people want to see". I was happy to leave it there but y'all wanted to argue. Now I'm the bad guy? But seriously? Eeyore-ness? Butthurt? That's just curse word rude, frankly

Ah found the thread being referred to elsewhere.
Part of the problem of threads like this is that they are overwhelming and there isn't much to reply to some times. I know this from my own experience, putting together over a week or so some really long and (I think) involved threads. Then getting zero replies and them sinking into the void. Sometimes you eat the bear ... etc. etc.
Personally I prefer individual show threads. I also prefer individual build threads. As in both cases the content is a bit more compartmenalised and easier to reference for emails and sharing links to folk.

Then again Mark Walker did that with his Darraq before it blew up too. These guys really live this stuff.
