I built this car in 1990. I modified a bodyshell left over from a series kitcars that I had previously manufactured in the late 70s The heart of the car is a 4wd transfer case from MG Metro 6R4 Grp B rally car Engine is a Nissan V6 twinturbo mounted back-to-front offset to the left, driving forwards through a 5 speed Toyota gearbox into the transfer case which splits the drive front/rear 40/60% via epicyclic gearset and viscous limited-slip centre diff Front and rear diffs are Datsun 200. Spaceframe chassis. Front susp rocker arms to inboard coilovers

Wow, must have been hell of a ride. What kind of a weight to power ration was?

That must have fairly moved. Cant imagine the weight was much.
Wheelbase to track looks fairly square, must have been responsive.
Did the car get used in competition?

Brilliant, what a specification. Why was the engine offset to the left?

Power around 550HP, weight 1200kg, engine offset to left to allow front and rear propshafts to pass down centre of car.Offset weight counteracted by right-hand driver placement This car has won outright(FTD) at more than 30 hillclimbs and rallysprints during the 90s, but has long since fallen into disuse after passing through several hands

laydown rads work fine so long as they have a small bleed line back to the high-mounted swirlpot/filler

That looks like something that should be doing the Pikes Peak, and judging by its spec and history, it would probably do quite well.
A proper PROPER build. Luv it.

I do like that. Would need a bit more ground clearance for me, but it is still a nice thing. Pity it is not used anymore.

Have you considered getting the car back? if it is passing through different hands and not getting used there is a risk it could be broken for parts or left exposed to the elements. Being the builder and knowing the history you might be the best person to preserve it. It has a Renault Alpine / TR7 look about it.

Jesus, all your builds are just plain awesome. Talk about making a man feel like he's got a small dick! Here's me trying to freshen up a car that's complete & driving and feeling happy about my work! Hats off to you.

the inspiration for the first iteration of this body shape was a one-off special body by Ghia on an AC ME3000. I made 5 of those shells,3 ended up as finished cars(one of which is this hillclimb car, 2 road cars) one of the bodyshells recently returned to me after40 odd years, I passed it on to a chap who is building a hillclimber with mid-mounted Subaru flat4 turbo, 2wd, he is skilled at CAD/CAM ,has all the machining facilities, it will be a beauty.he remembers seeing the first one driving around when he was just a kid, he has kept the memory alive all these years and is now building it.
As for recovering and restoring the 4wd car, my mate(who helped me build the car) has been in facebook contact with the current owners(some previous owner along the way had claimed that HE was the builder,my mate was clearing that issue up)The current owner has rebuilding plans, dunno if anything is happening?
I've got enough projects on the go , that was then, whats next?

AC Ghia Not a bad representation and I will admit that its a version I had never come across before. I always fancied an AC3000ME but never had the budget. That driveline system is bit of lateral thinking. I wonder if the designer went on to work at Pininfarina

Yep , Ford owned Ghia at that time(maybe still do?) and you can definitely see the beginnings of the Ford Sierra "jelly-mould" styling. When I did the buck I had about 3 or 4 pictures out of magazines to work from. No internet to help with research back in those days. My hillclimb car in this thread has widened wheel arches, I originally did the moulds without the big arches, will dig up some pics of the prototype bodyshell. The first road car I did had the non-widened arches and ran a mid-mounted Rover V8 adapted to an Austin 1800 transmission. Can you believe that? Austin 1800?All the parts for that first car came free of charge from my mate's wrecker yard. I got a job at the local Boatbuilding business to learn composites. The shed that you see the Hillclimb car posed in is the actual shed where I made everything, buck , moulds , chassis, paint, it was so cramped in there that I could only work on one side of the car at a time
Re; the comment about Pikes Peak, yep, it probably would have scampered up there pretty good, Back in 89 I did the pikespeak bodywork on the Ford RS200s of Thor Holm, Jan-Artur Iversen and Tore-Holm Bratlie. Thor Holm and Jan-Artur also used my PP bodywork on their Rallycross RS200s. I have pics, will dig them out. My original buck was modified at Jan_Arturs insistence, he was the man with the money and wanted to incorporate his aerodynamic ideas on the project. That was the one , only and last time I ever built a car to another persons spec., and I hated it. I was meant to accompany Thor to PP, but we fell out over money so I left Norway and went to work on Sven Lestanders Rallycross Audi(have pics, will post)
