And at long last I got round to wiring in the fan - man this thing can move some air!! my old extractor setup was pretty awesome but this is a new level. It's really hard to open the garage door with it running and it's really straining to run if a window is not open. Mark - My extractor does the same with the door but that's exactly the type of air flow / vacuum extraction that you need - you have to be careful with any masking on the car when spraying has if its not secured enough the air flow will have it flapping into your wet paint before you know it

George, it's very dependant on the LED bulbs. For indoor use I like the led's if they are the filament type as they are pretty close to incandescant colours and the G10 bulbs are really good for kitch ens. & bathrooms. I suspect in Manilla they are not the best bulbs available? Filament LEDS; Thanks for that, I'll keep an eye out for the different types. In the new place, most are fluorescent, so a lot different. What do you mean, "not the best bulbs available"? They come from China, what could possibly be wrong? Err, isn't EVERYTHING made in china now, it's the law apparently.......................................

I used 10mm tube, 8mm internal dia. Yes it was a doddle to fit. Thanks I think it’ll need to look into this rather than solid piping!

Just read the full thread...Sheds coming on fantastic, great job 👍👍 quick question, and I apologise if you answered and I missed it previous, where did you get the pneumatic tubing from. Looks fantastic and I'd imagine easy to route etc.
Cheers

They were good but they messed up on one part of the order - took 2 weeks to sort it out all very lovely on the phone but a bit clueless in sorting out the problem. Sounded like a little family run business with mum dad & grandad running it!! Very helpful but don't actually sort the issue out (forgetful??) Just make sure your internet order is completely correct as that part works perfectly.

Just finished reading through the whole thread, some brilliant work that you have done. Incidently my progress at work has been a bit slow today ah well its friday. I'm going to be building a very similar garage in the coming months, just as soon as my friend gets his RX8 shifted off the drive, so you have given me lots of good ideas for when i do that.
Definitely going to be borrowing the extraction system idea. Last time i tried painting a car in the current workshop which has no extraction i could hardly see from the laquer hanging in the air

That is not so lekker! Sorry 😂 *Groan* But no it wasn't one of my smartest moves hence why I haven't done any big jobs since. I just had to finish painting once I had started. I was very glad for a mask.

Hi Grumpy, I am thinking about extraction at the moment. I only paint occasionally - maybe 4 cars per year. Did one last week 2k solid colour and visibility was poor and huge amount of overspray / dust created. I have another to do in about 6 weeks and thinking about some extraction. I have a roller shutter door and a personnel door. Was planning on having the roller shutter open a couple of feet and fitting an extractor similar to yours in the personnel door opening. Couple of question is the fan you got explosion proof? Is that a concern? What is the thinking with height of the fan? Is it better higher or lower? Do you do anything with the fumes externally? I'm not too concerned as fairly well away from near neighbours but currently problems are pretty much contained in the garage - not sure whether the extractor is more likely to blast the problem elsewhere... Was thinking about rigging up some kind of water sprinkler outside by the extractor outlet - not sure how well that will keep the emmissions down... Cheers!

Some progress has been done since but forgot to update the thread. Still need to surface grind floor and lay new screed but otherwise it's mostly done.

I was very glad for a mask. Jeez!! That's some over spray! Personally I would not be in that due to the health implications, a mask only protects your lungs. 2k paint is absorbed through the eyes very easily and through the skin.

Fan should be low down to pull paint to floor away from what you are painting and also away from your lungs. Not sure about explosion proof fan? How would it explode? If you open roller door you will pull in dust off floor outside so you will need to screen off with some fine mesh (garden mesh is good for this) wet down floor outside of roller before spraying. Fan in side door will work as long as you seal off the rest of the door aperture.

Think we've been here before re explosion proof stuff - I previously mentioned spark proof light fittings and was repremanded I assume that is what mtrehy meant?
I think they are used so the overspray doesn't mix with sparks possibly caused from electric fittings? Having said that, I'm still here in one piece as is Mark and many others. I just have a habit of switching anything on before I start painting and not switching any electrical items on or off when painting.
