I'd beg to disagree. At the time, I was driving around on a clunky looking 50cc 4-stroke Honda PC50 3 speed auto moped which could touch 40mph downhill with the wind behind me * so his claims of 70mph on his more streamlined 5-speed bike didn't shock me. I believe the top end on the (unrestricted) 5 speed models was 50-55mph in stock form; I'd add that my brother is a qualified MOD fighter jet technician, a marine diesel engineer and is skilled in automotive performance tuning, (in the mid 80's he rebuilt my Allegro 1300 engine to give it a 0-60mph time that was comparable with a contemporary Porsche 911). *Although the PC50 did occasionally drop a valve when pushed. You may well beg to disagree, it still never happened, sorry I can't state categorically that it happened as I wasn't in pursuit when he made his daily commute but I've never known my brother to be a liar.

I've scored a few freebies over the years. I needed somewhere to store a motor and my old man gave me the keys to a one of his lockups and told me where it was. Said to just biff anything that was in it. I found an old bubble arched anglia in red oxide primer!! Sold it straight away. Many years latter whilst at the Bromley pagent looking around with my dad, he said he won an anglia years ago in a card game but couldn't for the life of him remember what happend to it. I quickly ushered him away from the anglias! He still doesn't know.

A rather legendary chap I knew once bought his mother's mk1 4door golf off her, replaced the interior and resprayed it, then sold it back to her as a completely different car at twice the price. Even put a private plate on it - once we told her she still won't believe us

Well, I got it going - Replaced the 'worlds most stupidly placed component critical to the car' ie the security ECU underneath the passenger seat and got it paired to the ECU.
Now, I never realised just how much a waterlogged car can smell.
It's beyond my normal coping mechanisms! - Going to buy myself a forest of magic trees and have it look like that guy's flat from the film 'SEVEN' .....

Wouldn't it be cheaper to hire a carpet and upholstery cleaner? You're more likely to get rid of the smell, plus whatever else has been smooshed in the carpets. A product I can recommend is the Wurth A/c disinfectant. When I was a mech, it was the only thing that would get the smell of dogs and old fags out of the under dash evap unit.

Pull carpet out, all insulation under it will be grim.
Probably not be expensive for another

Smell is going, have not attempted to get my other half in there - that is the ultimate test - One thing I am having issues with in this wet weather - I removed two huge floor sections of this highly compressed sponge. Now with anything like this previously I just hang it on the washing line and it drains out over time. Not this stuff. The only way to remove it is to squeeze out the water - It does not drain, dehumidifiers don't touch it, and as there is no sun or decent weather to speak of. Just had an idea of putting this sponge between two pieces of plywood and driving over it .... Maybe getting hold of one of these would be ideal ..

I'm having trouble with a leaky folding hardtop convertible at the moment. More water come in than I can take out. Going to have to pull the entire interior soon

rip the lot out!! when i first got my 106 it was a little "pungent" due to a leaky sunroof. i gutted the interior and found the sodden felt type underlay harboring an unidentified slime and herd of wormy-maggoty hybrid things. i replaced the knackered underlay with closed cell laminate flooring underlay and jobs a good 'un!

firm believer in the k.i.s.s and f.i.s.h principles.
