Faced something similar in Singapore. Swear it needed take off clearance from Changi! Was a SOB to kill.
Someone bought some insecticide spray for the house the other day. DO NOT be in the same room as the stuff. It's got a pic of an elephant on the tin. I can see why!

Unfortunately the garage is a little big and would require nearly a bonfire inside to make enough smoke. That and the eaves are open for ventilation (and unfortunately bug ingress).
Eventually the plan is to fully enclose the space. However, can't do that and pay for parts on the car at the same time...

Went out this afternoon and scrubbed at the front right section of the X brace of the chassis. That's no heavy scraping, just cleaning up dirt and gunk and going over the welds with a steel brush. Looks like it was assembled a couple weeks ago. Wiped it down with gasoline and sprayed krylon "rubberized" underseal on. It's meant to be black. It's poopoo brown. That went on and dried in this heat. The underseal looks exactly like the stuff the factory put on. This is a good thing. Authenticity. However, on the chassis it looks gash so on went a coat of satin black. Múy bien. Had enough for today. Crawling under the car in this heat is a couple hours' maximum. Phil

Can you staple some plastic gardening mesh over the eaves - air will still circulate but bugs will be kept out. Cheap fix for the short term?

Unfortunately no. The way the roof is built, it's not a flat surface anywhere I can get to.
Really what I need to do is finish up boxing the roof in and add some more lighting. However, again, money. That's a wintertime project, anyway. I think really it's the kind of thing that needs a magic carpet or some sort of lift because I don't do well with high up. Particularly not trying to screw sheets of wood to joists at the same time. I may have to take down what's already there because it's chipboard that's been nailed.
WHO NAILS CHIPBOARD UP AS A CEILING? I think it'll be getting ply, screwed to the joists. Really the roof needs to be replaced first as the tin isn't in the best shape. *sigh*

My neighbor Ken, who is a legend, welded the horns to the brackets tonight. Cleaned up and given a lick of paint they look good and even still work after having been welded. Top notch. Phil

I'm no Bilble-thumper but I keep thinking that recess in the firewall would be perfect for a statuette of the Virgin Mary ... it's a rather Gothic little alcove. Sorry! John

Somewhere I read that it was supposed to be there to save you in a wreck. Early concept of a crumple zone, I think.
In reality it's there because the straight eight is so damn big it sits in the recess.

Bolted to the firewall, new wiring crimped in place. Tuned the low note down a little to a slight discord.
That'll do.

Thank you Rian for clarifying what Phil was speaking of. I'm not scared of bugs per se but they would have me running, evil looking blighters. I'm liking the car progress, good work fella.

Tonight, a couple more hours of bodywork fun! Start with a fusty rusty panel that's had a leaky battery sitting against it for years. Buzz it down with orbital sander and scrub up with wire brush. Channel your inner Bob Ross. Wait for the rust converter to do its thing. Lay down a couple costs of semi gloss black enamel, stand back and note the improvement. Phil

The wrinkles? That is factory. That's part of the process stamping out the panel. It's a particularly complex shape and hasn't shrunk cleanly.
It's just an inner wing panel, so that was "good enough". It's also really heavy gauge metal.

Storm's been delayed until Saturday now.
It's also not expected to make hurricane any more, we'll see how the next few days pan out.
Bought $85 of gasoline for the generator, made sure the thing starts and runs. Battery is dead but the hand crank still works

Channel your inner Bob Ross. There are no mistakes. Only happy accidents. We're gonna call it a bird, it's a happy little bird, but you can call it a pine tree or even a Pontiac Chieftan if you like

This bit unbolts. Means you can see through here. Apparently that's how you set the tappets. Not gonna do that this time, instead I'm going to take advantage of the fact it comes apart so I can clean it all up properly and paint it. Phil
