Enough mechanical nonsense. Bring on the D-A! Installed some shine on the rear quarter. Ran out of daylight. Phil Bought a pot of chrome polish on recommendation from somebody in show car circles. Called Quick-Glo. I'm quite impressed. It's taken all the old polish compound out of the pits in the surface which was making it look dull. It'll never look perfect but at least it can look better. First pass cut complete on the side of the car. Looking at these three pics……. I have to say, it is looking positively positive. A great job, done well so far mate. Beer time yet?

I see you have started the clean up of the garage - there is a piece of wood in the wheelie bin.
Is funny, in Africa that wood would all be gone the next morning, along with anything else that was not welded down.

To finish up, I refitted the sun visor. Back together now. I told Sarah to smile. That's what I got. Teenagers...!

The sunvisor really just checks that last box, doesn't it?

The sunvisor really just checks that last box, doesn't it? A set of Appleton spotlights and some curb feelers would fit.

If I thought I could get away with it I’d feed mine to the dog.

I've always seen curb feelers as a sort of 'I'm not spacially aware of where my car is' accessory...

My neighbor had been pushing dirt about with a bulldozer, so the car was filthy. Gave it a wash and wipe down just as the sun was setting. Typically, ten minutes after I had finished, it rained. Still, it was nice to go out and get milkshakes. I need to check the valve clearances again, I've got a cold misfire and a click. It's either that or I've got a fractured ring. Phil

Soaked the rings down in #3 and #7 then went on a run to give it all the onions. I'll check compression in the morning

Despite a thorough wash down, the compression on #3 didn't really improve. I was surprised, filled the bore with Berryman at TDC and the rings held but the valves leaked down. #7 came back round to 125psi but clicks loudly. You can hear the low compression on the starter so valve job pending. Polished the emblems on the wheel trims because I forgot to do that when I did the rest of the paint. Went get fuel and got caught at the bridge again. Guy behind me got out of his car to meet me know my lights weren't working, I said I had turned them off to save the battery. Really need a new battery, and an alternator with a smaller pulley. Phil

You might try running it with some 2 stroke oil in the fuel which can help sticking valves.
I had similar altenator problems on my Elan for years, (they have small crank pulley). Eventually I fitted a modern 70A alternator and it's been fine ever since, modern alternarors seem to charge much better at lower rpm.

I've put a concoction in the tank, well see if that helps. $210 later. i have a reliable battery. Car runs much better at idle now, unsurprisingly. Phil
