A question to others not so much Phil sorry, Is there a type of Fogger available in the UK not LPS-4 I have searched and not found and they are cleaners and greases rather than a spray oil?
I want to use something other (better) than WD40 if possible.

I'm sure- best people probably to ask would be boats/marina type places, as marine engines often get lain up for long periods in damp conditions.

I had heard one pot down on compression last time I ran the engine.
Having pulled the head off and rotated the engine, the exhaust valve on no.8 was jammed open.
Turns out the bolt holding the manifold on was leaking past the gasket and it had drawn the coolant in, and gotten into the valve stem and jammed it up.
Much P'Blaster and hammer handle later it's free and moving merrily.
I'm so glad a sidevalve is non interference!

Bought some new scraper blades and set about on the cylinder head. Brass brush on the combustion chamber. Scrub scrub scrape scrape. Repeat. The pistons wipe clean with a little carb cleaner. All coated in protective oil for the night. Big storm rolling in, I've given up being in the garage, it's hot and windy. Phil

A friend of mine swore by it both as a penetrating oil and to prevent rusting, etc. Very fine oil. Craig PhilA : Keep up the good work, loving the straight 8!!! C

Power went out last night, so I went to the garage, lit my kerosene lamp and carried on work with the cylinder head. It's not great, but it's not bad. The front end of it appears to have been weeping slightly. I'll see what it looks like once it's cleaned up; it may just not have been cleaned properly. Phil

Do you know what the Slot/Cut Out in the compression chamber of 1 & 8 is for?

Really, I have no idea. It's on the intake port side, so possibly end of run flow alteration? Your guess as good as mine, I'm afraid.

Soon I shall be splitting the gearbox from the engine.
You can tell this is wartime engineering; there are 30 bolts securing the flex plate to the fluid flywheel, then a further 6 bolts holding the gearbox bellhousing to the engine.
Overkill, anybody? The flex plate is fixed with 6 bolts on my truck.

Made the first pass over the block deck with my blade. Looks good. No signs of visible cracks between the bores, the liners haven't moved and everything's in pretty good shape, if not dirty. Second pass to follow, then the head bolt threads to be chased, a thorough clean and oil. Phil

Hi! Do you think the block is fitted with liners?
