Apologies, that was supposed to be in jest! Yeah it can be a big problem, we had some crows in work last year that attacked any bald men! Where I live we have no need for air rifles, plenty of the real thing in every farm. My neighbour has seven, I know there will never be any worries! Well I spotted the wink, so knew you weren't serious Cheers mercedeslimo, As a licensed air rifle owner & target shooter we are quite sensitive to the subject as so many yobs and nutters haves been in the news for shooting birds, cats, swans, dogs and even children... It paints us all in a bad light and we are demonised in the media and politically (especially here in Scotland) as a result. Apologies for my post, in reading your own post back I missed the wink,, I meant no offence to you. Sorry for going off topic OP & mods

CPC are currently doing 50W LED floods (no PIR) for less than £10, Got four for outside my workshop when I finally move, tested indoors just one was quite sufficient to light a decent area. Cheaper than LED batten fittings. Manufacturer: PRO ELEC Manufacturer Part No: PEL00549 Order Code: LP10254Having changed nearly all our shop light fittings to LED over two years ago I can vouch for the savings. Leccy bill is down by 2/3rds, light is instant and easier on the eyes than fluorescent in a pitch black basement. Only negative is having to use a junction box with each unit. I haven't tried but i'm sure they could be rewired.

Sunday was not meant to be good...but it was. Got the last sheets up on the Gate end....left around 500mm gap before the Gate. Its a carport, so need to ensure it does not come under the "garage" conditions, where it cant be bigger than 30sqm, as its open on 3 sides. Sat evening by Nel5on69, on Flickr Different view, Love it by Nel5on69, on Flickr and shaved the dog rather than washing the paint off him....Poor soul. Paint removed by Nel5on69, on Flickr

We have things here called "crow bangers", use shotgun blanks but can get very annoying - a man killed his neighbour over one last year a few villages from here. Shotguns are much worse, someone else killed this morning.
Not sure what to recommend. I have a super bright LED PIR light and EVERY bloody thing sets it off. Negates the point, and I can see it on my way home at night, from the other side of the valley 3 miles away... Not sure OP's neighbours would take too kindly. Maybe an outdoor speaker that randomly plays bird distress calls or hawk calls during the day?

Put pea/plant netting over the top? I had the "sun Sails" up over this area, and it solved the main problems, but casued others. 1) They have to be removed when the wind gets up, 2) they don't look right, when 3 are up in the same area. 3) damage, one broke loose while I was in NZ, to "flap" across the 911 for a whole month! (This was a concern, so I had installed guide ropes above and below the sail, if something broke, still did not do as I had expected them to do) Days after my return, seeing the damage, the carport steel was ordered.

Sat, bit chilly today, but made a 8am start, cars were dry this morn! Bit cold by Nel5on69, on Flickr don't look at the wonky purlins, Top down by Nel5on69, on Flickr Closing in the sides/edges, this takes the most work, cutting, fitting cutting fitting...and it goes on, Its so much work doing the fiddly bits. Tried cutting the PVC with tin snips, it cracks(too cold), so got some slitting blades for my grinder and this worked well. Almost closed. by Nel5on69, on Flickr I've run out of PVC screws caps, so I will need to order more, 400 so far. I have to set up a gutter on the other side, but i'm not is a rush here, just need to work out how first.

Sunday, I forgot to take photos of todays work, but it seems I did nothing. I installed 1 post on the short side, and re-routed electrics and CCTV in trunking, rather than draped over anything. Really took most of the day. Dinner meant I had to finish early...but not before the hail. Hail by Nel5on69, on Flickr Shocking as it seems....it works! See rain outside and almost dry under it!!! It works... by Nel5on69, on Flickr Checked the gutter for leaks....only one drip in one place, so I suspect it was just rain on the side, not leaking.

Tonight, Moved some slabs, and found how amazing "past" Nelson was! On the left... note the gutter drain pipe. On the left by Nel5on69, on Flickr Now all on the right...and leaves something exposed.... On the right by Nel5on69, on Flickr Seems 12years ago, before a garage, or even the parking place is its current form, "past" Nelson built a concrete path, with drainage under it running to the house gutter system. (he also ran another to where a garage might be built some years later for lectric) Past Nelson is amazing! by Nel5on69, on Flickr I am often amazed what "Past" Nelson thought of...in all manner of things! I only hope I can keep up my good work into the future, so I can keep up the good work when the past arrives again.

Firstly....
Apologies for all the likes.
I live the work you have done.
I just read this whole thread and have to say, you had my attention from the point where your neighbour fetched a shovel to help you.
I want a carport out in front of my garage too.......
Maybe one day.

Closing in this weekend. Closing in by Nel5on69, on Flickr From this.... The finish by Nel5on69, on Flickr To this... 5 by Nel5on69, on Flickr It not too big... Who said its big by Nel5on69, on Flickr Then up till 8pm I was "finishing". In the rush to get the cars covered, just the tops of the steels beams were painted, so that left me to paint the sides and bottoms, while it rained, as I was now undercover. Also added another support pole on the short side. To be fair, I don't understand how "snow loadings" work, as I built mine to take my weight on any point. but when I looked at professional one with "twinwall" roofs, that span 3+mtrs long and 1+mtrs wide in 8mm...10Deg lean they are still legal, to snow standards, 1981.3.1? (I don't think they could take my weight in the same way!)

What have the neighbours said about it? One complained to the council about it...and the others asked me to build them one too.... Its 100% legal under 2.4 at the sides, covers less than 50% of available land, 3 sides open, it comes under permitted development. When I asked the one neighbour about it he said he didn't want it or like it...I suggested we lower it to 2mrts at the side, or reduce it by half...as I don't want neightbour problems and we talk every week, so it is the right way to deal with it. After some time...he said he already had the council out over it...and there was nothing he could do...I asked him why when we talk often would he talk with the council and not me? But then he said he called them over my gate 3yrs earlier too....so I was clearly mistaken and thought we had a relationship...but seems 3 yrs ago that ended and I didn't notice...lol. So not bothered anymore. None of my other neighbours got on with him...and I always thought he was mis understood. Really more than anything, he installed bird feeders near my cars, they would get too full to fly and unload on my cars...so my problem is solved. It's an amazing area to play with cars under now! No I e on cars, or even few, and if I need somewhere to do DIY...its perfect any weather.
