Right this is a build thread that started some 13 years or so ago It started like this I had just sold my TVR cerbera and had money burning a hole in my pocket and my brother said his brother in law was looking at selling his M5 "and so it began" the car was first registered in Ireland and then sold via Munich legends in England to the brother in law and then to me I originally had no real interest in it but it was there and I had cash The photos are from the last time I used it (3 years ago) It was always a high mileage car that along with it being a 3rd or 4th car I've barely used it (but I've never stopped working on it) More to come

If you want one you better be quick at the moment they've been on the up slowly but if you look at the E28 M5 and 635i/M6 etc they could double in price over night as that's how they went

This was a car debated getting alot! Seeing the 'ring videos of these as well as a certain late driver being slightly 'brave' behind the wheel did little to stop me. If anything I wanted one more! Of course, Ronin never helped!
It's probably one reason I ended up with my M3 of all cars. But yes, it's a lovely thing! Awaiting the updates!

Having recently scratched an itch, and taken ownership of my first E34, I'm looking forward to the updates on this one.

I bought this before the Internet forums were a big thing so I don't have much in the way of photos I spent most of last night going through photos on the old main computer and couldn't believe I didn't take any But i did document the later stuff so il post that up as we go Anyway A bit about the car itself as I haven't covered that yet This was the very last addition of the E34 M5 so it's the 3.8 6 speed They started off with a 3.6 (315bhp) around 1992 aprox then moved to the 3.8 (340bhp) and the last year of manufacture may 1994 onwards they made the 6 speed The 6 speed also had bigger brakes 18" wheels to go over the brakes and the optional switchable suspension was fitted as std the very last 50 cars had leather seats as std and a limited number plaque In right hand drive they only made (including the limited edition 50) something like 343 il double check So quite a limited run Here some pics Suede and M print cloth All the usual spec's you would expect from a high end BMW And most importantly the gear knob lights up 👍

Can you believe a friend and i bought a non runner 3.6 m5 in red with a nasty body kit bonded into it for £1600 about 6 years a go. Got it running on lynx deodorant! Took the plenum apart and all breathers, cleaned them up. Replaced the vacuum breather solenoids and that mini ecu thing and gave it a proper service and new plugs. It flew. Deceptively fast. It came from the north of Scotland and was totally rotten. Bought it just as a breaker. But promised myself I will get another nice one some day.

Do you still have the little torch fitted in the glovebox? Always thought that was a nice touch!

Lovely car. Bet the noise never gets old!
There's a millionaire property developer who lives down the dale from me, he used to absolutely drive the sh*t out of his M5 E34. He now does the same with his (2nd) E39 M5! I guess when you're that wealthy an expensive fast car to us, can be a daily hack! You should see it, mismatched rear wheels, half missing front bumper (he blasts across the moors road like no tomorrow, so I'm guessing it was a sheep)

They do suffer from rust since owning this I've seen quite a few on eBay as breakers They went through and in some ways they still are in a price range where they break for more than they sell whole ive done a load of rust on this (il get to that bit soon)

As I mentioned I don't have any photos of the earlier work carried out on this so this will be a little less interesting So the first big/expensive job I did to this was the suspension This came with the "Nurburg package" which is switchable suspension (basically harsh or more harsh) The purests will tell you it's the best thing to come out of BMW since the Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter But first hand I can tell you it's not It was quite a old design (I had an 1989 750il e32 with the same setup so not exactly state of the art) Hydraulic rear shocks electric front shocks And it was old so past its best You can't buy them new so your only choice is to have them reconditioned at great expense My opinion was replace with better at half the cost Again you can't buy (or couldn't at the time) anything off the shelve for this model but KW can do an exchange old for new So sent them off and got back some nice new KW coilovers instead At the same time I replaced all the steering arms Only pics I have once I had fitted them is these I found these nice genuine bbs ch rims on eBay and had to have them They had come off the later 6 series 19" and silly wide 9.5" and 10.5" But as much as I liked the look of them they were to dam wide and didn't go round the rears touched the trailing arm and the arch and the front touched the arch So they had to go 😥
