Once the Minis were gone I had a mixture of cars. Maxi 1500, Maxi 1750, Maxi 1750HL, MG Maestro, Pug 405, Mk6 Escort, Vauxhall Chevette, Lada Riva 1500, Ford Granada MK2, Nissan Micra 1.0, Nissan Micra 1.4, Ive probably forgotten something. Ive got pics of most of those and loads of various motorsport pics but I feel that whats been covered explains why I like what I like without stretching it out too much. It wasnt supposed to me some sort of memorial to my dad, but I guess thats what its become. If it wasnt for him I wouldnt have been able to build the minis, he did whatever I couldnt, i just told him what I wanted. And without the experiences I had growing up I would probably have wanted the same modern stuff that my mates wanted when we passed our tests. As you can see from the photos its covers all sorts of motoring things, cars, stuff with engines strapped to them, steam stuff, old stuff, and all manner of things I havnt covered. Its made my taste in cars quite unpredictable, I guess I like new ideas and things I havnt seen done, as well as period modified cars done properly, and admire anyones enthusiasm for doing it, and that covers almost anything with wheels, old or new. I'm not even sure I know what my taste in cars is TBH. When dad passed I had alot of things to sort, as you do. One being which car to keep, blue one or sandglow. My initial plan was to run the sandglow one for a year and sell it, which I did. The blue one sat in my garage for a couple of years until i realised that I wasnt going to keep it, I didnt want too see it go downhill and it would never feel like my car, dad built it and it would always feel like his, it would never feel like mine and there was no point in keeping it if it was always going to feel like that, so it was also sold. While I was using the sandglow one, with a red white and black stripe on the bonnet in memory to him and his racing, I took it on holiday to Cornwall, which was where dad took us when he first got the car. The car ran faultlessly all week, all year infact. While I was in Cornwall I drove into a village called Mevagissy and parked on a harbour wall infront of a lighthouse. As I walked away I turned an snapped what I saw. Nothing planned, nothing staged, and when I looked at it later that day I really liked it. It wasnt until I got home that I looked at it and felt that it really captured what felt like the end of an era, and with the lighthouse reaching up into the sky.....well, its good enough to end this thread on.

Bit of a random post here, but relevant all the same. Yesterday I attended my bosses funeral. Founder of the company, mechanical wizzard and 'salt of the earth' kinda bloke. As expected, during the funeral it all came back to me about my dad, and no matter how long ago it was that he passed, moments like that make it feel like yesterday. Not gonna lie, i was a mess. As we left the church i walked to my car, managed to shuffle it out of the packed carpark and as I drove off, what appears in my rear view mirrors Only the car I drove to my dads funeral, and spent I don't know how long looking at in my rear view mirror when I would steam past him on days out. You can imagine what that did to me........ When I sold it the chap who bought it had known dad for years, and did maintenance bits where I work. I didnt realise he was there and didnt even see the car until it appeared behind me. I can smile about it today, but yeasterday was a different matter.

To merely click like on that would not be appropriate. Cool to see the car again and know it is in good hands.

Well today its 10 years since he passed. What do you do on a day like this? Shamelessly bump the thread by way of saying thanks?
Yup.
Thanks for the memories Dad. Its hard to feel sad on a day like this when the memories make me smile.
RIP.

After seeing tom221 's artwork I had to put in a request, so nice to see pictures reproduced in different ways and the watercolour effect really struck a chord with me, and instantly made me think of a picture that id like to see done that way. It was this one He kindly sent me a couple of versions of it, but the one that really got to me, was this. I mean. Look at that. I don't think I'll be changing my desktop photo for a while. Thank you Tom

I was going to post this in the Oval Racing thread, but its already been mentioned here, so I thought id put it here. When Dad was racing, he didn't do feuds, but he had a bit of a 'moment' which lead to what can only be described as a short lived fued, as mentioned by ironmighty07 afew pages back. Way back in 1976 at Wimbledon Stadium dad had a bit of a kerfuffle. During one race his car got stuck in the fence, and got hit a couple of times, which spun it round. He managed to get it started and tried to move it to the centre green, but as he did this the throttle stuck open and he realised he had no steering to the left. Next thing he knew he'd stuffed his car straight into the front of another car, Blondie Melbourne. This was dads car, a Rover P5 and this was Blondies car, a slightly tired looking A60 Apparently this resulted in a couple of broken teeth for Blondie. It was an accident, but it still meant that dad would expect some sort of payback so he raced at Billingshurst for a month or so before returning to Wimbledon. Now, I knew I had a video somewhere that had some old cinefilm on it. I found it. This was filmed by my mum who didn't really react when it happened, she just sort of adjusted to get a better view lol Ever wondered what payback looked like?

Now, bear with me. I'm going through a bit of a situation atm. Mum is in hospital with covid. Not looking good but she is responding to treatment. My head has been all over the place the last few days, but without dwelling on that too much something else happened today which has given me an understandable lift. I popped out to get, of all things, some clothes pegs. I went round the corner to my local hardware store. Literally a stones throw from my house and saw something that quite simply BLEW ME AWAY. For a bit of background, when my dad passed away he left me with 2 Maxis. I sold them as they just didnt ever feel like they were mine, they felt like dads and I didnt want to keep them because of that. One went to a chap who did odd jobs where I work, the other one, the blue Maxi 3 was sold. Never to be seen again. Until about an hour ago. As I rolled up outside the shop in my Cube, my old friend was there. Parked outside the shop. I couldnt believe it. I didnt have any means to get a pic but managed to chat with the owner who was just as blown away as I was. Exchanged details so we can have a catch up at some point. I don't have much more to say than that really, I was sort of lost for words and I still am now. I thought I never wanted to see the car again, but now that ive seen it it was great. To me its so much more than just a lump of metal. Have an old pic
