Nails done... Tackle the rear wings first, the rolled edge over the wire edging was unrolled and the wire repaired and re formed to the correct (ish) shape. I put the wings through the E wheel, this got the creases and much of the dents out, then welded the splits up. one done next to the other to do The bottom of the grill was also dented so I used some heat and got it much better, I didn't take many photos as I wasn't going to put them up anywhere. Before During Back in a bit once my daughter has painted my nails....

With the worst of the dents and splits dealt with the fun part can commence, luckily my mum has a farm so I can take everything over there and make a mess. I love blasting stuff, apart from the general discomfort of blasting its quite therapeutic, in a weird sadistic way.

Those parts look almost medieval lying there in base metal form in the sand.

Time for a little bit of welding but on the whole this is amazingly solid for its age. The big hole in the middle of the floor of the cab is for a timber floorboard, its only the bits that are circled red and yellow that I'm having to repair. So the red circled part first. Second part, repair patch made and forming the bead from the back, highly technical! And in position (almost) just needs clamping slightly better than it is sitting and then welding in. There was a small patch required on one of the inner wing panels (welds not cleaned up yet and yes looks a bit sh17y) but that was all

Don't know about "sh*tty welds", I'd personally be very happy with work like that (& SWMBO always says I'm too fussy lol,) Brilliant so far and looking forward to future updates, Nigel

I've just caught up on this, it's impressive work. You shouldn't be so hard on yourself.

It all looks really solid apart from the odd bit here and there, I guess they used thicker metal back then!
Whats the plan for the drive train or did I miss that bit?

Loved it. Just let me know when I can be of any use and I'll be be back. A rare opportunity for me to do stuff that simply cant be done in the kerb of a residential street. It is a really solid chassis. Aside from the cross section and the step mounts mentioned/shown its nigh on perfect. The vehicle is going to looking amazing when it's finished (I might have had a sneak preview of other parts in progress to base that claim on).

Drivetrain - nope you've not missed that part yet.
I have 2 options I'm thinking of.
I have a 327 in the corner of the workshop, its missing a few bits but easy enough to find
OR
I have a hankering after a biggish cubic inch straight 6 with a lumpy cam and loads of carbs....the sound is something else.

lets try again, just lost everything I had written..... with the chassis protected, attention was turned to the body. Those with a nervous disposition or easily offended please look away now....yes I am going to paint on the dented body, but this truck will get used and abused and I am not one to be too precious about things. I have always used lechlar products and never had a problem so am continuing to do so. The underside of the cab received, epoxy, high build, and gravitex. The body received, epoxy, flat, high build, guide coat, flat, top coat - no filler in this!!

Am I allowed to say that I've seen those pieces up there in paint, in the flesh, and they look stunning?. The truck's life history... its little dings and buckles and whatnot are still present and essential to the character of the thing, and the paint is solid and has a lovely consistent crema all over. It's going to be an amazing truck.

I had one teeny tiny issue and that was the fuse blew for 1 compressor ( I have 2 linked together) and as 1 wasn't working the other overheated and the "reset" button popped out so I only had the air that was left in the tank, I only realised when my masked started warning me of low pressure, I was halfway through a horizontal panel, and tried to finish it (wrong choice) with the air I had available - this resulted in a few drops of paint dribbling out the end of the gun onto the panel. Doh..

Thanks, I am very pleased with how its turning out - I love the fact the body can still tell a story, its certainly had a life. I am giving it a second life now, I hope it appreciates it.

OOh, nice to see someone the same as me who bothers to paint the entire inside of the doors rather than just the bits that show.
Looks teriffic.
