Hey, the eagle eyed may remember I asked for people to test a new UI for the site. I've been crazy busy doing stuff so didn't manage to wrangle the test group well. So instead I've got it to a point where it can be tested by anyone. Head to your Profile, then click the Settings tab, part way down you should see a Forum Theme options, which you can now change from the default to "RR New Theme Test" It is broadly similar to the current default theme, for tablet and mobile users (who may not even have the option in their profiles) it should be exactly the same (if it isn't that is a bug). For desktop users the right hand rail should now be on all pages and the same size on all pages, giving some consistency to the site so I can work on the next stage of this theme. Also there is less stuff at the top of the page. Once I'm sure this is fine I'll move on to the next stage. If you want to go back to the old default theme you just go to the same place above and change the theme back.

I just switched to the new settings - I use mainly mobile, switched to desktop view, to use the picture upload tool. The right hand side bar makes it tricky to see anything when displayed portrait on the phone screen, so I've switched straight back to the default.

The right hand side bar makes it tricky to see anything when displayed portrait on the phone screen, so I've switched straight back to the default. Cool I'll do some more work around detecting mobile screens to make that better. In fact if I'm super clever I can make the "desktop" fully usable on mobile with some jiggery pokery ... thanks for having a stab, will update when I resolve the issue for you to try again. Just another note, whilst I know no one like change, I have plans that are way beyond just what is currently there and this is just the first step to giving a better overall user experience on the site (and maybe dragging us into the 21st century).

Another one who has gone straight back I am afraid, but I'll be going back again, after all, sharing is caring . It's nice to see the new theme is familiar. However, in Safari at least, the page doesn't autosize like the default theme does, meaning that even at full screen or a minimised window, you always have to scroll left and right. I'll check the other browsers I have. EDIT: Firefox & Chrome are also affected. Not a massive biggy I admit but annoying when it works on the existing browser . Well, I'm back on the Test theme anyway .

Only have an iPad for daily use, theme made it too small to read almost. On laptop it is probably 100% fine

Hardware : Laptop Win7, large 17" screen, browser Maxthon. Sizing is different between old & new themes. Old was full screen at 125% magnification, new has extra column "Recently updated" etc so is fills the screen at 90% magnification. First impressions are not promising, the benefit of the layout changes do not make up for the much smaller text. Simplified steps for anyone (like me) who didn't find the option Head to your Profile, **edit** then click the Settings tab, part way down you should see a Forum Theme options, which you can now change from the default to "RR New Theme Test" Hope the feedback helps

Also switched over for a little while. Agree with all that's been said regarding its use on an iPad. It gets too busy . Just too much displayed on a small screen and the text gets too small,so you have to zoom in to get to a comfortable size, which kinda negates the whole purpose of the exercise. In this instance I think the current format is a lot more user friendly. I haven't tried it on the mobile but can see this being even worse. I can, however see it's uses on a desktop with a large screen. 😊
If ,by default it autozoomed,( if there is such a term in computer speak, like Mazda Zoom! Zoom!), to display only the first side of the page,so you see what we have now, with the option to zoom out to see the added columns on the right, that might be a useable compromise and a way of keeping the text at an easy readable size. 😊

Will have to have a look at how it is when zoomed and the right hand rail vs. screen width. Just trying to get ahead of the big Proboards update that will be coming in soon. Thanks for the feed back.

New theme prevents the site shrinking down with screen size. When i shrink my window down it stays full size and i have to navigate around with scroll bars on a desktop using chrome. Picture for the showings New theme Old theme

Oki doki. Going to can the new theme stuff and start again. It doesn't achieve what I wanted, which was the additional information/navigation areas without a loss of space/quality. Will have another go when I get through with the Gathering prep.
